This is a great question! Incorporating your parents into your wedding ceremony is a wonderful way to honor them and acknowledge their role in your lives. Here are a few thoughtful and meaningful ideas to include your parents in your special day:
𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐞: You you could have both parents accompany you down the aisle. This symbolises the support and guidance they've given you throughout your life. Alternatively, having both sets of parents walk down the aisle before you can set a beautiful tone for the ceremony.
𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲: A unity ceremony is a symbolic act that represents the joining of two families. You could involve your parents in a sand ceremony, where each parent pours a different colored sand into a single vessel, representing the blending of families. Another option is a unity candle ceremony, where parents light separate candles, and the couple then uses these to light a larger, central candle together.
𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Invite your parents to participate by giving a reading or a blessing during the ceremony. This is something that we hear from the majority of our couples at the start of their wedding planning journey.
It's completely normal to feel nervous about saying your wedding vows. After all, it's a significant moment where you're expressing your deepest feelings and promises in front of your loved ones. We get it, but we are also right there with you!
There are two types of vows, your legal vows where you officially declare that you accept each other in marriage, and personal vows, where you say what you want to say to your significant other. You must say your legal vows, however personal vows are entirely optional. The legal vows are repeated after us, so you don't have to rehearse them (unless you want to).
Many couples like to do personal vows in addition to their legal vows as it allows them the creative freedom to say exactly what they want to their other half on one of the most important days of their lives.

💍 The marriage schedule that you sign on your big day is the most important document. This document is filed with the National Records of Scotland, proves that you are legally married, and is used to issue your official marriage certificate. There are a few steps you need to take to be issued with your marriage schedule. ✅You each complete a Marriage Notice form (M10 form) or a CP10 if you are entering into a Civil Partnership. ✅ This form much be submitted to the registry office closest to your chosen venue. So if you live in Glasgow but are getting married in Inverness, you need to submit your forms to the Inverness registry office. ✅ You can submit your forms no sooner than 12 weeks before the date of your wedding, but you must submit them no later than 29 days before the date of your wedding. This allows the registry office to issue you with your schedule 7 days before your wedding day. ✅ Following your wedding, you must return the schedule to the same registry office within 3 days. You can ask someone else to do this for you if you are heading off on honeymoon. Having a piper play at your wedding is a custom that’s been going strong for hundreds of years. It’s said that our ancestors believed if a bagpiper met with the bride first, she was guaranteed a happy marriage. Someone who knows all about these traditions is ‘friend of Fuze’, Iain Melvin, Partner and piper at @piping services scotland.
