Why I Decided NOT to Pay to Exhibit at Big Wedding Fayres This Year

As a wedding photographer, I’ve spent years attending large wedding fayres, investing time, effort, and a significant amount of money to showcase my work. But this year, I’ve decided to take a different approach—and here’s why:

📌 High Costs, Low Returns – The price of exhibiting at big fayres keeps rising, and while they bring in foot traffic, the return on investment doesn’t always justify the expense. Many couples browse but aren’t ready to book on the day.

📌 Quality Over Quantity – I’d rather focus on personal connections and working with couples who truly resonate with my style, rather than being one of many photographers in a crowded exhibition hall.

📌 Better Ways to Invest – Instead of spending thousands on stand fees, I’m putting that budget into enhancing my services, upgrading client experiences, and offering exclusive promotions (like my current Valentine’s special!).

📌 Smarter Marketing – Social media, word-of-mouth, and smaller, more intimate wedding events allow me to engage directly with couples without the hard sell of big fayres.

This doesn’t mean I won’t be at any fayres—I’ll still attend select local and boutique events where I can connect with couples in a more relaxed setting. But for now, I’m focusing on personalized, direct engagement instead of big-budget exhibitions.

I’m always happy to meet up with couples for a chat and a coffee so don’t hesitate to ask.

Would love to hear your thoughts—do wedding fayres still work for you, or have you found other ways to plan your big day? 💬👇

Professional Wedding Photographer vs. Wedding Content Creator: Why Photographers Deliver Higher Quality

The world of wedding documentation has expanded in recent years, offering couples more ways to capture their special day. Alongside the traditional professional wedding photographer, the wedding content creator has emerged as a modern, social-media-focused alternative. While both roles serve distinct purposes, the expertise, tools, and results delivered by a professional photographer often surpass those of a content creator in terms of quality and timelessness.

In this blog, we’ll explore the major differences between the two, with a focus on why a professional wedding photographer remains the gold standard for capturing your wedding day.

1. Expertise and Training
• Photographers Bring Years of Experience
Professional photographers are skilled artists who have spent years mastering their craft. They understand lighting, composition, and camera settings to capture high-quality, flattering images. Many photographers also have formal training in photography or years of hands-on experience at weddings, giving them an eye for detail and the ability to anticipate important moments.
• Content Creators Focus on Trends, Not Technique
Wedding content creators excel at capturing quick, fun, and trendy clips for social media. However, their expertise often lies in storytelling and social media editing rather than in-depth photography skills. Their work is more casual, which may not translate to the timeless, polished quality you expect for a wedding.

2. Equipment and Image Quality
• Photographers Use Professional Gear
A wedding photographer uses high-end cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment that produce stunning, high-resolution images. They understand how to work with natural light, adjust to changing conditions, and create sharp, detailed shots that look beautiful even in large print.
• Content Creators Rely on Smartphones
Most content creators rely on smartphones or compact cameras to capture moments. While smartphone cameras are impressive for casual use, they fall short in low-light conditions, depth, and overall image quality. The difference is especially noticeable when comparing photos side by side.

3. Timelessness vs. Trends
• Photographers Create Enduring Memories
Professional photographers focus on creating images that stand the test of time. Their work is carefully edited to ensure consistency and longevity, making them ideal for wedding albums, wall art, and keepsakes that will still look stunning decades later.
• Content Creators Focus on the Now
Wedding content creators produce short-form, trendy content designed for immediate sharing on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. While these clips are fun and exciting, their appeal is often tied to current trends, making them less meaningful in the long run.

4. Editing and Post-Production
• Photographers Use Advanced Editing Techniques
A photographer spends hours meticulously editing your images to enhance colors, remove distractions, and perfect every detail. They have access to professional-grade software and editing tools that elevate the final product.
• Content Creators Use Quick Editing Apps
Content creators typically use mobile apps or basic editing software to produce quick, polished videos. While these are perfect for social media, they lack the depth and refinement of professionally edited photos.

5. Delivery Timeline and Quality
• Photographers Offer Carefully Curated Work
While photographers may take longer to deliver their work—often several weeks—the results are worth the wait. You receive a curated gallery of high-quality images that reflect the story of your day in a timeless way.
• Content Creators Prioritize Speed
Content creators often deliver same-day or next-day content to keep up with the fast-paced nature of social media. While this speed is great for sharing moments quickly, the focus on immediacy can compromise quality and attention to detail.

6. Capturing Moments vs. Creating Content
• Photographers Document Genuine Emotions
A professional photographer excels at capturing real, candid moments as they unfold. From a tearful first look to an exuberant dance floor, photographers focus on preserving authentic emotions that tell the story of your wedding day.
• Content Creators Stage Moments
Content creators often stage scenes to create dynamic, social-media-friendly content. While these clips are fun, they may feel less genuine and fail to capture the depth of the event.

7. Longevity of Deliverables
• Photographers Provide Keepsakes
Wedding photos are more than just pictures; they are heirlooms that you can share with future generations. Professional photographers understand the importance of delivering images that will remain beautiful and meaningful for a lifetime.
• Content Creators Focus on Short-Term Impact
The work of a content creator is designed for the moment, tailored to the fast-moving nature of social media. While their deliverables are engaging, they lack the permanence of a beautifully crafted photo album.

Why Photographers Are the Better Investment

While a wedding content creator offers a fun, modern approach to documenting your day, the higher quality and timelessness of a professional wedding photographer’s work make them a better investment for most couples. Here’s why:
1. Timelessness Over Trends: Photographers deliver images that will remain meaningful and beautiful for decades, while social media content often loses relevance quickly.
2. Technical Excellence: Photographers use their skills, equipment, and editing expertise to create stunning, high-quality photos.
3. Emotional Value: Professional images capture genuine emotions and moments, telling the true story of your wedding day.
4. Long-Term Satisfaction: Years after your wedding, you’ll be glad you invested in quality images that you can cherish forever.

Conclusion

While a wedding content creator can enhance your social media presence, a professional wedding photographer offers an unparalleled level of quality, artistry, and timelessness. For couples who want to preserve their wedding memories in the highest form, a photographer is an essential part of the day.

Investing in a professional photographer ensures that your special day is beautifully and authentically captured, providing you with cherished keepsakes that will outlive social media trends.

Why I Keep My Prices Low as a Wedding Photographer: A Personal Philosophy

After reading some photographers views on pricing I thought I’d repost this blog that I wrote. Wedding photography doesn’t need to be expensive. Everyone has a budget.

When I first stepped into the world of wedding photography, I quickly realized how saturated the market was with varying price points. From luxury packages to budget-friendly options, couples have no shortage of choices when it comes to finding a photographer. So, why do I choose to keep my prices lower than the industry average? The answer is rooted in my values, the experience I want to provide, and the role I want to play in your wedding day.

1. Weddings Should Be Accessible

Weddings are special, deeply personal events. They bring together families, create lifelong memories, and are often the culmination of a couple’s dream. But they’re also expensive, and the costs can add up fast. Photography is a crucial element, but it shouldn’t be something couples feel they have to compromise on because of high pricing. I keep my prices affordable because I believe every couple deserves to have beautiful, professional photos—no matter their budget.

2. My Focus Is on the Art, Not the Upsell

In the wedding industry, it’s easy to fall into the trap of upselling—adding extra packages, more hours, and additional features to boost prices. While that’s a valid business model, I want my focus to remain on the artistry and storytelling of photography, not the pressure of constant add-ons. For me, capturing a couple’s love story in an authentic, meaningful way is the reward, not trying to nickel-and-dime them for more. Offering transparent, reasonable pricing allows me to keep that focus where it belongs—on your story.

3. Building Long-Term Relationships

I don’t see myself as just a vendor who shows up on your wedding day, takes some photos, and leaves. My goal is to build long-term relationships with my clients. When I keep my pricing fair, it opens up the possibility for couples to come back for future photography needs—be it for maternity shoots, family portraits, or anniversary sessions. By offering accessible pricing, I’m able to become part of my clients’ lives beyond their wedding day. This long-term trust and connection are invaluable to me.

4. It’s About the Experience, Not the Transaction

There’s a personal philosophy I live by: your wedding is your day, not my business transaction. I want to ensure that I’m contributing positively to your experience. Couples are often juggling dozens of decisions and financial commitments, and I want photography to be a stress-free aspect. When I charge fairly, I see the gratitude and peace of mind it brings, and that’s far more rewarding to me than a high price tag.

5. Keeping Passion Alive

When the pressure to meet high sales targets is removed, I find that my creativity thrives. Photography has always been a passion for me, not just a way to make a living. By keeping my prices lower, I don’t burn out chasing financial goals. Instead, I’m fueled by the joy of capturing love, emotion, and fleeting moments. This allows me to deliver my best work to you, and to remain genuinely excited about every wedding I photograph.

6. Quality Doesn’t Have to Break the Bank

Some might wonder if lower prices mean a compromise in quality, but that’s simply not the case. Just because I charge less doesn’t mean I cut corners. I use high-end equipment, invest in continuing education, and work just as hard to deliver photos that will be cherished for a lifetime. Lower pricing reflects my desire to reach more people, not a lesser quality of service. You deserve incredible photos, regardless of the price point.

7. Making a Positive Impact

Another reason I keep my prices low is to make a positive impact in an industry where the costs can feel overwhelming. For many couples, budgeting for a wedding is a tight balancing act, and every bit helps. If I can alleviate some of that stress while still providing beautiful, lasting memories, I’m doing my part to make the wedding planning process just a bit easier.

Conclusion: A Balance of Passion and Purpose

At the end of the day, wedding photography is about more than just business for me. It’s a balance between my passion for capturing love stories and my purpose of making those stories accessible to everyone, regardless of budget. By keeping my prices low, I can focus on what truly matters: being there for you, capturing the moments that count, and contributing to your special day in a meaningful way.

So when you see my prices, know that they are a reflection of my values—of making weddings beautiful, memorable, and accessible for all couples, without compromise.
