Its that time of year again folks...a gentle reminder....ETIQUETTE...is very important in dance.....
PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED BY THE STATEMENTS AND ADVICE BELOW!
THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD DO AND A LIST OF THINGS TO TAKE WITH YOU TO ANY CLASS OR EVENT
1) Always Shower or jump in the bath before coming to a class or social event, stale sweat is very smelly, and can be uncomfortable for your partner, some people are very lucky, and do not naturally smell, but I suggest that everyone assumes the worst, (that you do), and work to prevent it.
2) Always apply a deodorant or something similar, and take it with you to re-apply as the night goes on, as it does not last all night, (no matter what the adverts say!!!)
3) Wear fresh clean clothes, as you will be in contact with other people’s clothes, and they will be in contact with yours.
4) Bad breath can be an issue also, always clean your teeth, and use mouth freshener, take mints….always assume the worst, sometimes, we can’t tell ourselves!
5) Men, always take at least one spare shirt, more if required, as touching a sweaty shirt is not the nicest experience…ladies, always be aware, you glow, obviously you don’t sweat, but the result is the same!!
6) Cigarettes……when people smoke ci******es, I have no issue with that, but please be aware (ex smoker talking here) cigarette smoke stays on your clothes and body and breath, as with sweat, it can be offensive to some people, please be aware of this, and respond with breath freshener, deodorant etc.
7) Finally coughing….one of my pet dislikes…..everyone coughs, if you know you may have a tickly cough, or such-like, please try to cough into the crook of your arm, it is not very nice when someone coughs into their hand, then offers it to you. Hand sanitiser is always available at our classes and events.
If someone comes up to you and offers you a tin of deodorant or a packet of mints, they are either being friendly, or doing you a favour, please don’t be offended if some one does this, as they are doing it to help you , and stop any other embarrassing situation.
Always be respectful to your fellow dancers, and your dance teacher.
I am aware that I have touched some very sensitive subjects there, but all I want is for people to enjoy their dancing, and have a great night.
ITEMS TO TAKE TO A SALSA CLASS OR SOCIAL
1) spare shirts/Blouses for women
2) breath freshener/mints
3) hand gel, or hand wipes
4) deodorant, perfume/body spray
5) a cloth to wipe excessive sweat away
A WORD OF CAUTION AND ENCOURAGEMENT
Salsa is not easy….you need to be patient, ready to laugh and have another go when you get it “wrong”!!
FINALLY....
Always be respectful to your fellow dancers, and your dance teacher.
Most of all....Enjoy yourself!!!
