What a busy week…..3 funerals in our local village halls, helping our local communities and multiple corporate lunches in the mix delivered to various locations in Penrith.

Thank you to Glyn Jones Funeral Directors of Appleby and Richardsons Funeral Directors of Penrith.

Special thanks to my dedicated team of helpers, who have worked extremely hard this week covering staff shortages and have kept up with the demand for cake and sandwiches.

Complements to our new meat supplier N J Dowding Ltd, Appleby. The Sausage Rolls have gone down really well, with some lovely feedback.

As caterers you would expect nothing less than glasses and bowls for our away day to Skipton. It was even commented upon by other passengers ! 🤣

The team have had a busy day and sadly there are no pictures, we were too busy ensuring we delivered our food service for today’s events.
Bereavement refreshments at Great Asby for a well known local lady at lunchtime followed by an afternoon tea at Tebay for a group of very delighted attendees.

Thank you all and to my team today who have worked really hard to fulfil our commitments.

From Dinner parties to lambing there are no limits to the services we provide…..

Took a call from Jackson this afternoon “are you busy, there are two ewes on lambing and I’m 2 hours away”?

Headed off to the lambing shed, waited, provided progress reports and then had to assist, pleased to say I’ve not lost my touch, a slow response on arrival but Black Beauty and daughter doing fine and 2nd ewe lambed triplets.

No paperwork achieved but successful afternoon and pleased to report these new arrivals are not field to fork catering.

A local family gathering today to celebrate a ruby wedding anniversary.

For starters, guests had a choice of Tomato and Carrot soup with wensleydale cheese, smoked salmon and mackerel pate, melon medley. Main course choices were slow cooked lamb in rosemary and red wine, confit of duck, beef olives, salmon fillet and vegetarian galette.
Desserts were chocolate ganache puff, blood orange and rhubarb compot, sticky toffee pudding, white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake and fruit berry roulade.

A very busy end to the year for the Applegarth team and looking forward to a well earned rest until January.

Today we have provided breakfast rolls at Shap, followed by a Christmas party in Penrith and bereavement refreshments at Temple Sowerby.

I would like to thank my amazing team for their work not just today but throughout the year, this has been a particularly difficult year for me personally and their support has been very much appreciated.

Such a lovely service at this difficult time of year for families who are bereaved, it was very close to our own hearts this year losing Thomas who was not just my brother, but one of our Applegarth team 🥲🍏

It’s been a busy weekend for the team, providing bereavement refreshments on Friday at Penrith Rugby Club for a local farming family, wedding nibbles on Saturday at Edenhall Estate and warm drinks and homemade biscuits at a memorial service at Long Marton.

The team travelled to Ghyll Barn, Long Marton on Saturday to provide bereavement refreshments for a lovely well known lady who was not only well respected in the community but was a very dear and close family friend. I have known Josie Cannon for over 30 years and in all that time I have never known her to be anything different but Josie. The celebration of her life was planned in great detail down to the type of refreshments she wanted. I had many discussions with Josie before her passing about the menu she wanted me to provide and was under strict instructions not to do egg sandwiches! Instead, family and friends who attended Josie’s funeral were provided with a cold meat/fish buffet with hot new potatoes and a selection of desserts and hot drinks.

It was a great privilege to provide Josie’s farewell refreshments and I truly hope she would have been pleased with the menu we offered. We were certainly tested before the arrival of guests given we had no power, but managed in the end to serve the very large attendance at the barn.

RIP my lovely lady, you will be sorely missed.

Family and friends gathered together at Maulds Meaburn Village Hall for Betsy’s surprise 90th birthday party. A traditional afternoon tea was provided, receiving a thumbs up approval from this lovely lady on her special day.

The team travelled to Wood Hall, Hesket New Market yesterday for the YFC Northern District Field Day. A glorious sunny day, blue skies and the Young farmers shone. Thank you to my wonderful team for overseeing the judges and stewards catering, much praise and thanks as it allowed me to carry out my chief industrial steward role. Thank you also to the many friends who were supportive getting me through, in what has been a tough few weeks.

Well done to Caldbeck in their victory on home turf and to all the Clubs for their talent and high standard of competitiveness.

Great family day.

BURNE - Suddenly at his home on Thursday 11th May, Thomas Gilbert, of Street House, Great Strickland. Aged 58 years. Dearly loved son of the late Billy and Mary. Much loved brother of Christine and Kathleen. Devoted Uncle of Jackson and Victoria and a good friend to many. Funeral service and interment at St. Barnabas Church, Great Strickland on Thursday 25th May at 12:00 noon. Finally after three years of wedding planning and sadly having to reorganise due to the pandemic, we finally provided wedding catering for Matt and Kirsty on their wedding day. Having had some lovely weather during the week, we were disappointed the weather turned on Saturday morning making life a little more sticky than desirable and it wasn’t just the sticky sausages we served for canapés!

Guests enjoyed Brie wedges with red onion marmalade, followed by a choice of roast lamb or chicken and seasonal vegetables and an assiette of desserts comprising Cherry Panna cotta, lemon and blueberry cheesecake and white chock chip brownie and Ice cream.

Whilst listening to some very entertaining music, guests were invited to an evening buffet table of hot pork slices with apple, salads, wedge potatoes followed by a cheeseboard and fruit platters.

Thank you to my amazing team for all their hard work both yesterday and during the week, it has been quite a week with lots of events to service and some very long days.

The team travelled a short journey to Cliburn Village Hall this evening for 70th birthday celebrations, dancing to Sally Hardaker and the Bald Mountain String Band.
Guests enjoyed a fish and meat main meal with salads followed by mini cream cakes and fruit - the cakes being far more popular than the healthy fruit option 😋

Some of the team brushed up on their Ceilidh dancing, bonus points to Charlotte, Sophia, Erin, Tori and Ella for having a go 💃 good practice for Field Day.

The team missed out on our annual Christmas Party last year, so using the chancellors recent vocabulary - the more ‘experienced’ members of the team (past) and present decided to have a mid week jaunt to Lancaster to see Menopause the Musical 🎭

After a delicious meal in Corner House, followed by some wine and Baby Guinness we were all in the mood for a real good giggle!

Ladies, if you fancy a night full of laughter from start to finish then look out for the next cruise, you will not be disappointed.

Great friends, lots of laughs - and some songs will never be sung the correct way ever again…..🤣

Our client this morning had a little extra on their breakfast buffet - ‘Fabi’s Fabulous Milk Shakes’😋 from Kirkbarrow Farm, near Ullswater.
Raspberry and white chocolate, banana, strawberry and chocolate. All delicious and worth a visit.
