It’s with very heavy hearts that we share the devastating news that our friend and colleague, Stephen Tooth, along side his daughter, Emily, were fatally injured in a road traffic accident on Friday 14th June 2024.

Stephen, or “Stevie” as he was known by close friends, joined Catalyst Event Production Services in 2019 as a Production Manager. Stephen was immediately leading projects around the UK; utilising his ability to plan, lead and deliver all areas of Technical Production. His strong work ethic was apparent in everything he did. Always willing to support his colleagues and his unflappable nature was indeed the mark of the man.

As a respected figure within the AV industry, the loss of Stephen and his daughter Emily has shaken this tight knit community. We know Stephen wouldn’t want a fuss and for things to carry on regardless, but we are shocked and saddened, and feeling the loss of one of our Catalyst family.

The sheer volume of messages both the family and our business are a testament to the respected gentleman that he was.

We were delighted to hear Stephen had entered into a relationship with our industry friend Karen Johnston having met at one of our events where they worked alongside each other for COP26. Their relationship only got stronger over the subsequent years to create a loving family.

Stephen was more than a colleague; he was a genuine friend to all. He was reliable, rose to any challenge and helped anyone along the way.

Our thoughts go out to Karen, Iain & Lynda, Stephen’s parents Dave & Margaret and all the family.

Stephen and the selfless examples he set will forever remain in the heart of our business.

We are thrilled to introduce two of our newest members at Catalyst.

Welcome Tia…
After finishing her college course in audio engineering, Tia joined Catalyst as part of our "work experience programme" where we bring those interested in our industry on to jobs in a paid role to provide valuable taster shifts. Tia quickly knew she was keen to work in the production side of the event industry and so began to work as a freelancer. She worked on a variety of projects, where our Technicians and Project Managers saw Tia’s skill set grow from strength to strength and thus became a logical addition to our team.
Tia has now joined Catalyst as a full-time Technician.

Welcome Kevin…
Working with our Warehouse & Asset Manager and wider warehouse team, Kevin has joined us as an Asset Technician where he will be developing systems to enhance our approach to equipment preparation, the return process and storage to ensure our equipment is presented to the highest of standards to our customers for their events.

We are extremely excited to see our team continue to grow and look forward to seeing what the future has in store for us.

Sean gained his NRC Level 2 Rigging Qualification. A great skill for Catalyst to have in-house and allows Sean to take his skills and career to new heights.

Thrilled to announce that we have installed a life-saving defibrillator at our Bridge of Earn and our Edinburgh sites. We’ve ensured they are located in an accessible area and available 24/7 for emergency use by employees and the public.

In our efforts to prioritise the safety and well-being of our community, we have taken a significant step towards ensuring immediate assistance during critical situations. The defibrillator, a vital piece of medical equipment, can be a game-changer in saving lives during cardiac emergencies.

Towards the end of November, Team Catalyst produced The Founders Conference 2023, at the Gleneagles Hotel for Lux Events
The 20m set, situated in The Henry Hall, was made up of two 12ft projection screens and a bespoke backdrop, where over 200 guests attended.

Scotland's biggest Halloween weekend brought thousands to Ingliston, Edinburgh this October.
Artists performed underneath a 50 metre horizontal LED video beam that extruded out from the 26m main stage set.
Catalyst loved being a part of this event and had the privilege to work alongside EE Live and to create this insane set design for the main stage of Terminal V Festival

This year’s has been a huge success with its guests so far! We are thrilled to finally reveal all the amazing things we have been working hard on to bring the forest to life this year, alongside the incredible team of talented people: Wavemakers Live Grant Anderson Lighting Design. Animation by Illustrations/Artwork CovenForge. Sound by DM Audio Ltd Sound Design by Jon Beales & Rachel Cullen.

This year’s theme ‘From The Deep’ submerges you into the ocean's depths and takes you on a journey with the company of an adorable character named Solas! The experience is brought to life by stunning lighting, atmospherics, sound, and music. We have recreated everything from beautiful suspended jellyfish to a bubble coral bridge to an underwater volcano!

Excuse our absence… Our team has been working extremely hard behind the scenes!

As we enter October, we’d like to reflect on this past month and share a small glimpse of our work. The team has showcased their skill set throughout several projects, ranging from music festivals to corporate events, interactive pop-up stalls, and bespoke exhibitions- the limit is endless.

This year our team gathered Cluny Clays for our annual away day. This was great for all 40 employees to get together and reflect on the successes and challenges we’ve faced over this past year, but also a great way for the company to give back to our hard-working team. Our staff enjoyed a morning meeting, followed by a variety of team-building activities and the opportunity to head into Edinburgh for an evening at the Fringe!

Creating good team strengthening and a motivated environment for our staff is our priority and therefore it’s always great to see both our offices coming together. We also shared some massively exciting news with our team for 2025- Stay tuned for Catalyst’s new adventure!

Then and now... Scotland's first-ever rugby squad vs their present!

Scotland’s 2023 squad was announced this week at Port Edgar for the Rugby World Cup, where Catalyst had the opportunity to provide the team with a branded riser and press conference for their new launch! Over the years Scotland’s national rugby team has had a long history of talented players who have played a huge role within the sport, getting the team to all nine world cup competitions since 1987!

What a great way to start the season, best of luck Scotland!

A recent custom build: our team provided Clyde 1 with a new studio for their Super Scoreboard. The space was clad using matt grey 6mm mdf acoustic panelling and finished using LED tape to illuminate a selection of the groves.

Sitting flush between the panels, our technical team also fitted five sections of 2m tall LED video screens allowing content to be transported around the space. The Centre of the studio saw a custom-built desk finished with a solid surface lamination, edge-lit and wrapped in the brand’s colour palette.

It’s great to see this space being put to good use! Our scenic & technical team did a great job of producing this build.

Friday the 4th of August saw our annual stop off at the Edinburgh Playhouse, for this year's Forth on the Fringe show!

With the show running over a two-day period, showcasing three different shows our team utilised centre stage to produce a 6m x 3m screen using PL2.5/3.9 for the main content, followed by eight 2m LED columns and 16 Titan Tubes to enhance the sets lighting around centre stage.

Our team delivered a great event in the Playhouse, using our in-house stock of DL4s, 600+, 150s and MegaPointes. As always, it’s great to be producing shows for Bauer Media’s Radio Forth with such a talented team, making events happen!

Today marks the 19th anniversary of Catalyst Event Production Services! Every year since, the company has grown and evolved providing the events industry with vast amounts of talent, knowledge, and skills. As an event production team, we offer a unique blend of services to meet the needs of our clients. Our innovative team provides creative design, dedicated project management, and hands-on technical support to make your visions a reality.

Post-Pandemic - due to a dedicated team, with drive and commitment, Catalyst is extremely fortunate to offer over 38 job roles to our driven and committed team within the company. Whilst we are continuing, we can’t wait to see what the industry has in store for our team over the upcoming years.

We are privileged to be a part of your spectacular events and we are so appreciative of our supportive clients over these past nineteen years.

Another day at the office for our team, working alongside EVENT360 to produce a sound reinforcement system at Murrayfield Stadium. Catalyst supplied the Stadium with full PA for their club-friendly game where fans gathered to watch Man Utd v Lyon on 19th July.

Outstanding teamwork during June, where Catalyst worked with SSE to produce an on-brand
conceptual design for their annual leadership conference, at The Fairmont, St Andrews.

This year, SSE celebrated their 80th anniversary of Hydro Power and our creative team worked with SSE's brand team to come up with an innovative design that would display the company's history at their present-day event.

Guests were welcomed into their conference with a backlit water effect graphic suspended above them. A truss structure supported an industrial-themed display of eight double-sided light boxes and sixteen graphic-wrapped boxes. The entranceway celebrated SSE’s journey through historical hydro-dam builds, with each pole representing a decade of their past achievements and the reverse side showing images of their current leadership events. Creating a “place from a space”, we built an on-brand room within a room using SSE’s brand-compliant colour palette. At 6 key points within the room, we positioned 1.5m x 1.5m LED screens using Absen's PL2.5 Pro, which then had custom composite panel squares wrapped & illuminated in SSE's secondary colours to create an on-brand collage set displaying images and videos of past achievements.

We received extremely positive feedback and we're proud to be a part of this successful event.

We had a brilliant few days at the Royal Highland Show, as guests were welcomed into the grounds for the 181st anniversary.

Our team worked with Scottish Water to design and build a pavilion from which they could host an educational campaign on “your water, your life” which focuses on delivering fresh, clear water straight to your taps at home.

Using the same footprint as previous years our cunning designers managed to create a significantly improved pavilion. Incorporating back of house storage for staff and storage gave SW staff a functional space whilst also providing 84sqm of space to meet and greet attendees over the 4 days. Externally we created a 75sqm covered deck area to allow attendees to refill their water bottles at 12 mobile “top-up taps” and get a selfie with a massive water bottle at the same time. Bespoke picnic tables allowed families to take a break and shelter from the Scottish weather where we experienced record temperatures and torrential downpours sometimes in the same day!!

Working with SW we incorporated numerous systems to capture rain water and any spillages from the taps to be used by a bespoke irrigation system to water the planters on the deck.

With a focus on reusable materials, the stand was designed with minimum environmental impact front and centre of our minds.

It was fantastic to hear the statistics coming from the pavilion…. The team at Scottish Water distributed 15,392 bottles and 30,306 litres of water from the tap which is the equivalent of 91,836 330ml bottles!!

We are super satisfied with a job well done when we received feedback from SW staff who were blown away by what was achieved in the same budget and space as previous years.

A massive congratulations to CCL Logistics & Technology, who were awarded 'Exhibitor of the Year' with a special shout-out for their eye-catching stand and ability to provide a genuine demonstration at Multimodal 2023.

Catalyst had the pleasure of creating and delivering CCL's Multimodal Stand 2023, held at the NEC in Birmingham at the end of last month. This exhibition saw over 12000 visitors, in over 3 days.

Our design and scenic team worked efficiently with CCL to build and create their bespoke branded 'Delivering Happiness' Bar which included stunning wood slat detailing, a fun parasol, and integrated refrigeration where visitors could enjoy a drink or two. The Greener Routes Sustainability Area was planted to create an enclosed seating area with sleek timber-slatted custom planters, including hidden storage. The framework of the arches was repurposed and rebranded with CCL's most current branding but also housed all the stand's electrical power.

We were delighted to have been involved in the success of this exhibition.

What an outstanding week it's been at Murrayfield Stadium, welcoming Beyoncé and Harry Styles to Scotland!

All three remarkable events, working alongside Scottish Rugby Hospitalityand Elior UK, to accommodate guests with hospitality.

We are extremely privileged to have played our part within the last three shows and look forward to welcoming Bruce Springsteen in Edinburgh tonight.

Seeing operations as big as this, whilst being a part of the events industry is truly amazing. Great to see everyone coming together, well done to all those involved!

Last week we saw SSE carry out their annual conference, in Glasgow Central.

Our team of talented designers worked closely with the client to create an on brand set for SSE’s All Energy conference. We designed and built the stage and backdrop with various three dimensional clusters to create an abstract collage finish. Each of the squares have been vinyl wrapped in brand specific colours and backlit for a halo effect.

Our design process receives fantastic feedback from our clients as we can visualise our proposed concepts with photo realistic renders providing options to clients to consider.

X MUSE invites you to join them at their X MUSE Temple based in Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh! We are thrilled to have collaborated on this immersive experience with X MUSE for tasting tours of Scotland’s super premium vodka along with creative food pairings created exclusively by Chef Scotto to complement the X MUSE Signature Martini in the vodka tasting workshops.

The project, commissioned by X MUSE, designed by Formafantasma and manufactured and installed by Catalyst is brought to you using bespoke build baffle partitions, upholstered in Bouclé Ivory fabric with gold embroidery, framed in blackened oak. Taking centre stage was a 4m blackened oak table, with turned granite legs; accompanied with 12 matching dining chairs. Suspended above is a 6m aluminium framed acoustic ceiling raft; upholstered in matching fabric to create an exclusive and intimate space whilst still allowing guests to enjoy the abundance of natural light the Temple provides. Guinness Six Nations rugby weekends are always busy ones for Catalyst but this weekend has been a particularly busy one.

Approaching a decade of supplying sound reinforcement for the in stadium Sports Presentation at BT Murrayfield, we are also completing our second year of supplying AV support for the BT Murrayfield Hospitality Suites.

On top of all this, working with our friends at EVENT360 we had crews at both the Stade de France in Paris, and at the Avia Stadium in Ireland simultaneously ready to deliver LED screens for the Championship Trophy Presentation subject to the Championship result.

With over 28 crew working across three magnificent European stadiums, it’s certainly been a busy weekend. Congratulations to all the Guinness Six Nations teams, particularly Ireland for a spectacular Grand Slam win.
