✨SAVE THE DATE | FESTIVE FAYRE ✨

I am thrilled to announce that on Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of December, we will return with a brand new Christmas market…. A Festive Fayre!

This new mini-festive market will be held in the old Sawmill at Milton of Crathes near Banchory, Aberdeenshire. It’s free entry for all, and we even have a new theme in mind.

After meeting so many fantastic businesses through our new directories, I wanted to showcase some of their beautiful creations in a way that is more tangible than just on paper… or on a screen as it is. This time around, our mini-market will highlight local handcrafted goods made from natural sources using traditional methods.

Our small businesses will be there to discuss how they use traditional skills such as foraging, felting, silversmithing, beekeeping, soap making, weaving, and more to create their products and how important it is to them that we continue to keep these traditions alive.

There will be plenty of stalls to shop, products to buy and fantastic local makers to meet. I’ll also be there on the day to greet you with a complimentary winter tea!

I’ve also written a wee journal post that goes into a bit more detail about the event and, of course. I’ve created a FB event page, too.

So, save the dates, and I look forward to seeing you inside our cosy bothy market soon!

Part of my new plans for Slow Living Scotland include adding seasonal recipes to our website for you all to enjoy.

These recipes will be in collaboration with small Scottish businesses and will include seasonal, local ingredients as much as possible.

There’s already a few recipes up there from a few years ago but to celebrate Apple Day this past Monday, I’ve recently added one of my favourite cakes of all time; blackberry and apple cake! 🍎

This cake is a BBC Good Food find and I just love it! It combines apple, blackberries, ground almonds and a hazelnut topping making it absolutely devine 🤌🏼👌🏼

It’s the perfect way to use up any apples you have just now and any leftover frozen blackberries too. I often chuck berries in frozen to my cakes as they maintain their shape a little better so, whack them in and enjoy this delicious cake!

I’ve got a few more exciting recipes to share soon from the small businesses I’ve collaborated with. I’d love to know if you’ve make any of the recipes featured and if you’d like to share one of your own, please get in touch!

Will you be making a boy of our seasonal recipes? Let me know in the comments poll.

20/09/2024

As you might have seen from some of my stories over the past few weeks, I’ve been taking part in a weekly growing course with . I’m a total newbie when it comes to growing my own food but as it’s something I really want to start doing, I thought it would be a good idea to get some tips first! 🌱

The classes have been fantastic and I’ve learned SO much so far. After every single class, I’m back home excited and ready to give it a go! I am also in absolute awe at how wonderful nature really is. The more I learn, the more impressed and interested I become. It really is fascinating how nature works and has it all figured out. The quote: “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” By Lao Tzu springs to mind! Something we should all keep in mind!

I’ve still got a few weeks to go but once I’ve completed the course I’ll do a wee write up and post it on my website journal. Currently documenting my “growing journey” so I’ll be able to add some things I’ve learned from that too.

If you are interested in learning more about gardening and/or growing your own food, give a follow for updates on all their classes and workshops available. 🌿

🌿 Exciting News! 🌿

After almost nine months away, I am thrilled to introduce a brand new feature to my website…

Introducing three directories, all dedicated to helping you embrace the beauty of slow living in Scotland. 🌿

✨ Events: Discover mindful gatherings, local markets and workshops near you.
✨ Escapes: Find peaceful retreats nestled in Scotland's breathtaking landscapes.
✨ Stores: Explore local artisans offering unique, handcrafted goods.

My bio contains all of these new features, plus a link to my online bookshop at bookshop.org. 📚

The directories are a work in progress, so please bear with me while I add everyone. As with my events, I only recommend businesses I use myself and believe to be the best in their industries. Each company has been personally hand-selected by me, ensuring high-quality products or accommodations and businesses committed to protecting the environment, our health, and our well-being in one way or another.

I have also written a short blog post about where I've been the past few months and where I hope to take Slow Living Scotland in the future. If you have a spare five minutes, I'd really appreciate it if you could have a read and let me know your thoughts.

I'm excited for you to explore these new features. I'd love to hear your thoughts, so please share them in the comments below! ⬇️

Thanks for all your support and patience. 🧡

Just wanted to pop on here before the Hogmanay celebrations begin and wish you all the happiest of new years!

Whether you had a great year or a hard one, know that a new year is just around the corner giving us permission to try again and undoubtedly fail all over again! We’re only human after all!

I am taking a break from social media for the foreseeable future. I’ll be on sporadically but will be focusing more on being creative just for the sake of it. I’m back to writing and reading A LOT and I feel particularly at home where I am just now so will be going with it until I no longer feel called to.

I hope you can all do the same this new year. Focus on what is lighting you up in the moment and go with it. No excuses, no expectations; just do it for YOU!

Thank you so much for all the support again this year. I loved seeing you all again at our Conscious Market earlier in the month and I look forward to more exciting things coming later in the year.

Sending warm wishes to you all and lots of love.

See you in 2024!

Nollaig Chridheil! Merry Christmas!

No photos taken as we were lucky enough to spend it offline like in the olden days 😂

I hope you all had a lovely day, however you chose to spend it. put a lovely post out earlier where she acknowledged that some people find Christmas hard. I just want to reiterate what Fearne said, that if you found the day difficult for whatever reason, I hope you are a little more at peace now it’s over.

Wishing everyone peace and contentment in this wonderful slow time between Christmas and Hogmanay. Enjoy it!

All our love from me and mine to you and yours! 🧡

3 weeks to go! ✨

Plans are well and truly on their way and it really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas! (I know you all just sang those words in your head!) 🎵

We still have a few places left at our brand new Festive Calligraphy Workshop with . Follow the link in our bio in case you want to snap them up before anyone else does!

Donia has been sharing a few xmassy bits and pieces over on her page so make sure you check them out too.

I’ve had a few messages asking if you need to book in advance for the market and the answer is no, you can simply turn up on the day! Tickets are available online though if you want to buy them in advance plus it saves you faffing about with payments as soon as you get in the door!

Meet the Maker post will be coming out later this week so keep a look out for them. We have a few newbies this time around which I am sure you are going to love! 🧡
