It gives us great pleasure in being able to announce that our very first event promoting angling will be held on 4th May 2024 - "Spring into Fishing". We are aiming to get youngsters and families who maybe have not fished before, or those who have tried in the past and want to take it up again. This is totally supported by the Angling Trust. The Angling Trust will provide all equipment and a fishing licence for you on the day; IT IS TOTALLY FREE TO YOU!!!!!

There will be two, two-hour sessions on the day 10:00-12:00 & 13:00-15:00. You must register for this event. Please register your interest on the Angling Trust website : https://anglingtrust.net/2024/03/08/2024-spring-into-fishing/

"Going fishing is one of the nation’s most popular pastimes because people who go fishing fall in love with the way it combines being in nature, healthy activity and proven mental health benefits – it relaxes you, gives you a reason to get off your screen and a chance to forget about the challenges of daily life and the rising cost of living."

"Fishing is a low-cost activity that only needs a small amount of money and time to do. It’s easy to get into with a few bits of fishing tackle and a fishing licence. Children under 13 do not need a licence, and licences for children aged between 13 and 16 are free but you still need to register and receive a licence to go fishing. You can get a licence for the full year, for 8 days (ideal for holidays!) or just a day’s fishing. at www.gov.uk/fishing-licences."

Shotton Hall Angling Club

With warmer weather just around the corner (hopefully), angling really is picking up at Shotton Hall Angling Club with some great catches reported. However, what has not been caught yet are the single remaining Koi Carp and the Goldfish. I will personally refund out of my own pocket the full seasons membership of £35 to any member who catches these. This MUST be done during Shotton Hall opening hours as these fish are destined for a large local domestic pond and transport awaits them at the Hall. If either are caught, please telephone the Hall immediately on 0191 5862491 and someone will come down to the bank of the pond to retrieve the fish. Photographs of this must also be taken. It's a great prize, but please nobody pop down to their local pet shop to buy a Goldfish & Koi and photograph them; we know what they look like, their size and markings. - GOOD LUCK!!!!
