🎨 Calling all young artists in Plymouth! 🎨

Do you want to see your artwork displayed alongside legends like Man Ray and Salvador Dalí? Here's your chance!

The Box Plymouth, in partnership with Arts University Plymouth, is hosting its annual Children and Young People's Art Competition, and this year's theme is Surrealism – an art movement that explores the mind’s creative power and challenges reality.

If you're aged up to 25 and live in Plymouth, Devon, or Cornwall, you could win a £150 voucher to spend at The Box and have your art showcased in a nationally touring exhibition!

The closing date for all entries is 5pm on 4 April.

Oh we are SO back baby!!!

The first 6 dates for QOL 2025 performance nights are confirmed!

You can book your slot for all events now. Please note, we are trialling a new sign up method. To register your interest in performing please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/SnGHYLseFRU6Yg4H6

We are also trying out alternating days so that people with commitments in the evenings are most likely to be able to attend. The time will stay the same though: 6-9pm (estimated 6:15 start, half hour ish break midway).

If you know of any amazing q***r performers looking to share their craft with likeminded people, tag them below or share this post with them!

Huge thank you to B-Bar Plymouth for giving us their space again. We are so excited to work with them for 2025! Make sure you book a table if you want somewhere comfy to eat their delicious noodles 😋🍜 You can do that by calling this number: 01752 545111

If you don't reserve a table, you will still be allowed in as usual but we cannot guarantee you will have a space to sit!

See you at the next event: WEDNESDAY 15th JANUARY

Hey! You there! Lovely q***r person looking for more community in their lives!

For the last few months, our behind the scenes team has been working on what else we can offer you wonderful humans, and we have finally decided to roll out the first stage of that: our discord server!

There are two tiers to this: Free To Access which includes a space for general chatter, and Dates For The Diary - a space where you can help us choose when future events happen, and can have plenty of reminders about events because, knowing enough of you lot now, we are not great at actually putting events we want to go to onto our calendar...
The second tier is for Members only. Membership will be rolling out at the end of January (ish, big fan of 'ish' time) and means you can help us shape the future of Q***r Out Loud. As a member, you will have access to 8 more channels which will support you in networking, making friends, and other resources from our little hive mind. If you are an artist in our shop, you will have free access to this once membership is up!

Link to the server: https://discord.gg/ydzThdSzpm

If you don't already have a discord account, you may need to set one up before clicking the link. It is free and fairly simple to use but feel free to send us a message if you need a hand figuring it out!

Calling all members! Our collective went live today and we need YOUR help to get the votes needed for our project.

You can read more about what this money will be used for in the slides, or feel free to send us a cheeky DM and we can talk more about why this money will help support q***r, disabled and neurodivergent communities in Plymouth!

Find out if you are a member already by heading over to Plymouth Octopus Project’s website, and then go to the funding page and vote for us! There are 4 other amazing projects up for voting but you can only vote for 3 projects max!

Voting is open till DECEMBER 13TH!! Feel free to comment below if you would like a little nudge about this before voting closes.

Two other projects are also based at and we have all the things crossed for them too! Good luck and new tenants Plymouth Climate Hub!

Tag any members you know below 👇 to help us get the votes we need 💛

'Gender Affirming Care is Su***de Prevention' is core to everything we do. Access to items that make you feel safe, feel seen, feel happy, is imperative. Making those items free? An added bonus.

In September, we hosted our (and maybe Plymouths?) first Trans Fashion Show. We gathered a bunch of you lovely lot, gave you clothes that have been donated by our community, and celebrated all sorts of trans bodies that so rarely get celebrated as they should be.

Thanks to this event and , we were able to introduce many new comers to our services and how we can support you in feeling at home in your body. We were able to raise enough money to buy loads of foam and realistic packers which can make all the difference to trans masc's, and even have some more money saved up to buy items for trans femme's! Recommendations on what you would like us to buy are greatly appreciated!!

We were also able to pay our wonderful models - something we have wanted to do for ages!

If you would like to support us to continue offering gender affirming care, consider donating a few pounds to us! We have just set up our PayPal which means you can donate without even having to leave the house (which sounds pretty darn ideal, if you ask me). You can also donate to us at events or at our shop!

Huge thank you to for the images of this event, particularly on such short notice! And thank you to for trusting us with this event, a pleasure to work with you and AUP 💛

if you modelled at this event and I haven't sent you the images yet, please send me a nudge and I will sort that out!

Good Morning!

We'd like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who came to the launch of Mimi's poetry collection last night, and another big thank you to the wonderful poets who shared their work with us.

If you were unable to attend, don't worry. Mimi, Laurie and Ozzy's collections are available in store here and through the poets themselves, and Matt's collections are available through him.

We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

How long have you been putting off sewing that patch onto your jacket? Or been holding onto a badge or zine you just don't love that much anymore?

Join us for our Thread Jam on Saturday 7th! Hang out, make and sew patches, and trade zines and badges that you don't want anymore! and are kindly supporting this event with supplies, good vibes, and all the tips and tricks you might want about sewing, making pins, and organising zines.

The shop will be open, and you can use it as a quiet space as needed. The rest of the plot will also be open as normal so buy some food at and have a look around the rest of the shed's!

Huge thank you to for leading this event!

Hi All!

We are open and trying something new!

The TOQS team is passionate about books and stories, and we firmly believe everyone deserves to see themselves represented in media.

So, we've started stocking some books aimed at both budding and published writers to encourage the community to tell the stories that matter to them.
