It might still be winter, but seed sowing season is nearly here, I always start sowing on the 14th of February, a little Valentine's treat for myself! These are my first picks:
•Larkspur - loves a cold start, grows tall, and dries beautifully.
•Snapdragons - slow to get going but totally worth it for months of flowers.
•Sweet Peas - because nothing beats the scent... except I'm not actually allowed them in the house because they make my husband sneeze! (Luckily, he works away a lot! #whilethecatsaway...) 🤧
Are you growing any of these this year? Or do you have a must- sow flower for this time of year? Let me know ⬇️

Why I don't sell Valentine's flowers - My fresh flower season runs from April to October, right now, my field is resting, getting ready for spring blooms.
I could source British-grown tulips or tunnel grown flowers, but I choose not to. For me, part of the joy of flower farming is working with the natural rhythm of the seasons, celebrating what's available when it naturally blooms.
Instead, I focus on dried flowers this time of year - long-lasting, sustainable, and just as beautiful. If you're looking for a special gift, take a look at my dried flower collection. (Link in bio)

At this time of year, it's important to keep deadheading your flowers to encourage them to bloom for as long as possible. The Dahlia's are certainly enjoying this lovely sunny weather we have been having and are churning out the flowers at the moment, but it's now a matter of weeks rather than months before I will be cutting the last fresh flowers of the year 🥲
Let me know if this sort of thing is interesting or useful for you. Or if you have any garden/flower related questions, I'd be happy to help if I can!

To me, to you - I had a helping hand at the field yesterday, and it had stopped raining, so it was the perfect time to wash the algae off the top of the polytunnel. It's not a very exciting job, but it really makes a difference to the light levels, so very satisfying.
I always feel that after Christmas and the New Year celebrations, it should be straight into spring. I kind of forget that we still have January and February to go, my least favourite months of the year 🌧🥶.
It's not a great time for working outside, but it is a great time for planning, I still have some seeds and dahlia tubers to order and this year I will be adding some new varieties and extending the amount of flower beds I have. There's so much to look forward to 💚
