On display at The Box Plymouth in February 2026, Portrait of Mai holds a pivotal place in global art history and is widely regarded as the finest work by one of Britain’s greatest artists.

The painting is part of Journeys with Mai, a major national project that will include a new engagement programme, offering opportunities for contemporary artists, young people, and communities across the UK✨

Hosted by NHS Devon and Plymouth City Council, more than 50 organisations will gather at the Life Centre on Saturday 8 February, to offer advice and showcase their services.

The day will also feature a variety of activities, including dance, yoga, and dodgeball. There is no need to book - just drop in!

Building on experience delivering Illuminate, Real Ideas Organisation will transform heritage buildings and public spaces with stunning light projections bringing the past to life.

📢 Stories, exhibitions and poems from local people
📢 Roaming performance, local food vendors and more dazzling surprises!

Only a week to go until a new exhibition opens at The Box Plymouth✨

Opening on Saturday, February 8th, John Lyons: Carnivalesque will showcase over 40 of his works, including paintings, drawings, sketchbooks, and some of his poetry.

The exhibition delves into the rich folklore and mythology of Trinidad and Tobago, with a special focus on the vibrant, colourful carnival held just before Ash Wednesday each year.
