James Amos - Celebrant

James Amos - Celebrant Hello! I'm a Civil Celebrant based in South Wales but able to travel nationally and internationally.
(9)

About me

While the ceremony is all about you, or your loved one, it is important that you feel confident in your choice of person to lead your very special ceremony. I’m James and I'm originally from Yorkshire, though now live in Pontypridd with my family. As well as working as a Civil Celebrant I am a therapist, working in a practice in Barry. I can also be heard frequently on radio stations acr

oss the UK, including BBC Radio Wales, broadcasting 'Traffic and Travel' news. Before becoming a celebrant I worked as a teacher of Drama and English in schools in England and Wales. I will use the skills I have gained in my time as a therapist, broadcaster and teacher to work with you to create and present a unique ceremony which reflects the life of your loved one.

---------------
About my training

I trained with Civil Ceremonies Ltd., rated as an Ofsted Outstanding training provider and gained the NOCN Level Three Diploma (Equivalent to an A-Level) in Funeral Celebrancy and a second in Couples and Naming Ceremonies. This means that:

I have achieved the UK’s highest possible qualification in Celebrancy

I have been rigorously assessed for my skill and suitability as a Celebrant

I am able to create and deliver an appropriate and unique ceremony with sensitivity and empathy - making sure that your ceremony is perfect for you. You can have every confidence in my ability to create and deliver the ceremony you are arranging

---------------

Why Choose a Civil Ceremony? Every ceremony that I create is exactly as you want it to be. I will work closely with you to create the perfect ceremony to celebrate your love, your child or your loved one. Each ceremony is tailored to you, there is no copy and paste, or one size fits all. As we work together I will help and guide you so together, we can create the ceremony that you want. Whatever ceremony wea re putting together I will take time to get to know you, or your loved one, to be able to create the ceremony your way. The ceremony may include readings, music, poetry and photographs. Religious or spiritual elements, such as prayers and hymns, can be included, or the ceremony can be entirely non-religious.

A few weeks ago, I was asked by the team at Caerphilly Funeral Services to pop in and have a chat about being a Civil Celebrant. Over the next few weeks, I'll share some of the videos that we recorded together.

We will remember them.A lovely display by our local school Maesybryn Primary School.

I just had an email from the Association of Independent Celebrants informing me that I'd been nominated! Absolutely chuffed to bits!!

To me, being a celebrant is not just a 'job'; it's a privileged and honoured position- to work with families and couples at some of the hardest, and some of the happiest times in their lives.

Thank you for putting your trust in me.

Thank you!!!

I am a proud member of the Association of Independent Celebrants.

As an organisation, they are leading the way in modern celebrancy.

As a celebrant, they offer me support to be the best celebrant that I can be, making sure that my knowledge remains up to date and that I can offer the best service to you possible.

For you, they can offer peace of mind - I am insured through them, hold a DBS check, and they are my governing body - so any complaints or praise can be sent to them, and they hold all their members to the highest standard of safe, ethical practice.

One of the ways they do this is to highlight outstanding practice in the field of celebrancy. So every year, they hold a period of recognition for celebrants, the AOIC Awards - recognising outstanding practice in the field of modern celebrancy.

If we have worked together over this past year (since August last year), and you would like to let other people know, then you can put forward a nomination using the link below. It is a quick, simple form and it would mean the world.

Nominations close on Friday this week.

Thank you

Last Saturday, I had the honour of leading a beautiful wedding ceremony at The Angel Hotel in Cardiff. Despite the closure of the M4, meaning a delayed start, and the heat, it was a wonderful celebration of true love.
The couple chose a simple, elegant, autumnal theme, that was echoed in the cake... and I loved the cake toppers!

An honour to lead a ceremony for a very well loved man this morning at Sirhowy Valley Crematorium. It’s such a beautiful, peaceful place… even with the dramatic clouds today… and a lovely family of ducks with some new ducklings on the pond!

What a wonderful day celebrating the wedding of two very special people - Peter and Louise at The Towers Hotel & Spa in Swansea!

It always makes me smile when two people celebrate their love surrounded by family and friends.

Peter loves his car (a GTR) and so we finished the wedding ceremony with some words of advice….

Marriage is like
a GTR
Oil it well
and you'll go far
But if your road is bumpy
and full of tension
You'll wear down the tires
and break the suspension.

Clean your headlamps each night
don't leave a mark
So when you suffer hard times
you can still see in through dark

Use as your fuel
love from the soul
Then you'll be harmonious
in dual control

But if you fill your tank
with disagreement and panic
sooner or later
you'll need a mechanic!

Hello!

I know I’ve been very quite online over the past few months, but- I’ve been so fortunate to be busy working with wonderful families to celebrate the lives of some of those whom they love so much; working with people to plan their big day to celebrate their love with their family and friends; and working with families to celebrate some of their happiest ocassions!

Thank you all for your continued support, it’s such an honour to be able to work with the very special people that I do!

For now, whether you are of faith, or have none, are with family or spending time alone, I hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend-

Pasg Hapus xx

Happy Easter xx

What will your guests throw at your wedding?!
Well, if you're thinking confetti, you might want to think again... my latest blog explains why....

That iconic shot of the happy couple being covered in confetti has been repeated for years and years. It's one of those 'must-have' photos on your wedding day... and quite right too! The challenge is, that now we are becoming more aware of the world around us we know the damage that some of the thin...

When I’m talking with couples, we often discuss the differences between a celebrant wedding and a registrar. The AOIC have put together this useful blog to explain 🙂

If you're planning a wedding, you may be wondering whether to book a celebrant or registrar for your ceremony. Here are the key differences.

When people find out that I’m a celebrant, and that part of the work that I do is to lead funerals, many automatically assume that it’s miserable work….

It’s usually the exact opposite!

While it’s never easy for the families I work with to say goodbye to someone they love, actually we usually spend a lot of time laughing and smiling as they remember all the wonderful things about their loved one and plan a celebration of life that’s personal for them!

While I’ve not (yet) had a flash mob at a ceremony I’ve lead, we’ve had all kinds of things happen to remember and celebrate special people!

Have you thought about what you would like at your funeral to make it really personal for you?

I always think I’d like a flash mob choir at mine!
