We have had a great year here at Pontypridd Golf Club and we recently celebrated the completion of the grant-funded project to develop a short-game practice area next to the 2nd tee ready to start 2024 as we mean to go on.

We are delighted to secure the services of Jack Guerreiro as our 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 for Pontypridd Golf Club.

Jack was previously based at Bryn Meadows Golf Club and brings a wealth of experience.

Jack will coach from within our indoor studio, offer on course coaching and soon enough he will be using our new chipping area.

We still have our onsite pro shop courtesy of Steve Williams and Rob.

Playing golf in the winter in the UK can be challenging due to the cold and wet weather conditions. However, with some preparation and the right mindset, you can still enjoy your rounds.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝟓 𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐊 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫:

𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬:
Multiple layers of clothing to trap heat and stay warm. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin, add an insulating layer for warmth, and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer to protect against rain & wind. Wear a warm hat, gloves and thermal socks. Carry hand warmers in your pockets to keep your hands warm between shots.

𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬:
Choose golf balls designed for cold weather conditions. These balls tend to compress better in colder temperatures, providing better distance and control. Look for balls with a soft cover to improve feel & spin.

𝐀𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
Winter golf often means slower greens & wet fairways. Adjust your expectations for your round, knowing that the conditions might impact your performance. Focus on making clean contact rather than trying to hit long shots

𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫𝐲:
Use a waterproof golf bag or rain cover to protect your clubs and equipment from the rain. Bring an extra towel to wipe off moisture from your clubs and hands during the round. Wet grips can be slippery and affect your control.

𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭:
Prioritise safety & course maintenance. Avoid areas that are particularly wet or muddy to minimise damage to the course. Play more conservatively, choosing clubs that will keep you in control rather than risking big swings. Carry a pitch repair tool and repair any ball marks or divots you encounter to help maintain the course.

Remember, winter golf in the UK can be a unique and enjoyable experience, but it requires some adjustments to your game and equipment.

Getting your swing right is just the start of playing a good game, but such an important part!
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝟓 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭:
‌
1. 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐲: A solid golf swing starts with good balance. Make sure your weight is evenly distributed between your feet, and maintain a steady posture throughout your swing. This will help you make more consistent and accurate shots.

2. 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: Proper grip is essential for control. Hold the club with both hands, making sure your palms face each other. Your grip should be firm but not too tight, allowing for a fluid and natural swing.

3. 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨: Avoid swinging too fast or too forcefully. A smooth and controlled swing is more accurate and less likely to result in mish*ts. Practice a consistent tempo to improve your ball-striking.

4. 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥: Keep your eye on the golf ball from start to finish. Don't lift your head prematurely or follow the clubhead during your swing. Maintaining focus on the ball helps ensure better contact.

5. 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡: Finish your swing with a high and balanced follow-through. Your body should face the target, and your weight should shift onto your front foot. A complete follow-through helps with power and accuracy.
