We are BIG on measuring our impact because we want to make a BIG impact on our local communities.

Over Bonfire weekend, we know of more than 110 events that the Round Table organised. From feedback, we believe that in 2022 we collectively hosted 716,000 attendees (that's more than 1% of the UK population!) and raised £2.5 million - though we actually think the figure is higher.

A week after Ponty Big Bang, Pontypridd & Rhondda Round Table members were back in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park for a very different reason - to pay our respects to the fallen.

Thank you to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Park Department for the excellent work they do each year preparing our park for this important occasion.

The Pontypridd & Rhondda Round Table team together with the fisherman’s friends are cracking on with the final day preparations for Ponty Bing Bang.

The Fireworks are being set up, the food and drink trucks have arrived and the funfair is on its way.

There’s a bit of light drizzle set to finish at 3pm well in time for our gates opening at 5pm.

Preparations are well underway for Ponty Big Bang on Saturday, and we can't wait to see you all there!

We've checked the latest weather forecast from the Met Office, and it looks like light rain earlier in the day will stop in time for the display, which is great news.

As this is Wales, please do bring a light raincoat with you to be on the safe side.

Please rest assured, fireworks are not affected by the rain at all, and so we will absolutely be going ahead after our two-year Covid-induced break.

We're back!

After a Covid-induced break of two years, Ponty Big Bang is back, bigger and better for 2022!

Preparations are well underway and over the weekend, members of Pontypridd & Rhondda Round Table tested and fuelled all the generators ready for Saturday the 5th of November.

All proceeds from the event go to local charities and good causes, courtesy of Pontypridd and Rhondda Round Table whose members volunteer all their time to organise and run the event for the community.

As this is a community event put on by volunteers for local people, we really value your support this year to ensure that we can continue to run the event in the future, as so many events have now finished.

As we are feeling generous, we will be giving away five family packs of tickets (2 adults and 2 children per pack) over the next five days.

Ponty Big Bang 2021 Fireworks Event - Cancelled

Last year Pontypridd and Rhondda Round Table reluctantly took the decision to cancel the Ponty Big Bang 2020 Fireworks event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have left it as late as possible this year to decide whether to stage the Ponty Big Bang 2021 Fireworks event.

The health and ongoing safety of our spectators, supporters and suppliers, as always, must take precedence. Even with restrictions being eased and the risks at an outdoor event being much reduced - we are still required to minimise the risk of infection to everyone involved by implementing COVID-19 management processes. For us to manage the thousands of spectators attending the event to ensure compliance, in the dark, where crowds will inevitably gather is going to be a massive challenge; we have no desire to become a super-spreader event.

The COVID-19 pandemic is clearly still ongoing with continued uncertainty regarding how this virus and in particular its variants will spread and affect the community over the coming weeks and months. Government restrictions are already being reintroduced; the Welsh Government announced last Friday that if we are to stage the event then production of a COVID-19 pass will be mandatory for everyone attending that is aged 18 or over. The real possibility that it will become necessary for further restrictions to be introduced with this event potentially being one of the first to be affected has not been ruled out. Our greatest challenge is not knowing what is going to happen next.

This event is run entirely by volunteers and is self-funding - there is no fall-back or support money available should it not go ahead or make a loss. We have had a couple of poor years and cannot afford another. There are many up-front costs that must be incurred now which we cannot recover or postpone should the event ultimately not go ahead.

Given the above, we have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the Ponty Big Bang 2021 Fireworks event.

We thank you for your continued support without which Ponty Big Bang and the money it raises for local charities and good causes would not exist.

We intend bringing the event back next year – please put Saturday 5th November 2022 in your diary.

We hope you and your families continue to keep safe and well – we are hopefully finally seeing the light at the end of this pandemic tunnel.
