Curls with a ghd straightener never hold….!

✅ TRUE or ❌ FALSE?

When a client sits in our Lions Lair (that’s chair!) we sometimes have to test the waters to see what kinda curl suits them best!

Curls come in a variety of shapes + sizes:

👩‍🦱 Neat + defined
🏄‍♀️ Messy/ surf chick
👩‍💼 Tousled
🙋🏻‍♀️ Half curl
🛌 I just woke up like this/ bed head

As professional hair stylists we’re always happy to make suggestions depending on the style or theme of your wedding + images provided, however ultimately it’s your call! 🫡

Brides Preview Appointment/Trial.

We opted for a soft and pretty ‘girly’ type of curl using GHD straighteners.

✔️Lots of definition, volume and bounce as our client was anticipating the elements at the end of 💨
✔️Pro products by and to hold the style with a view to it dropping slightly in the wind. (Our client was going to test drive it outside after her appointment!)

On the wedding day itself the bride opted for a more casual look of beachy waves which she felt was more in keeping with her vibe!

Some wedding hair stylists prefer to curl with GHD’s, some prefer curling with tongs and others use a wand or waver ~ trust your stylist in the process!

It’s not only the professional experience of your hair stylist but the products used during preparation are essential too!

When booking your hair and makeup with us we ask you to spend some time jotting down your thoughts about how you’d like to look on your wedding day ~ before your trial/preview appointment.

When you share your Pinterest board or a couple of photos that inspire you it helps us get a good feel for what level of makeup you’re comfortable with so that we are fully prepared for your Preview Appointment.

Being organised beforehand means we have a vision to focus on which we can discuss in more detail and get stuck right in!

Don’t worry if you’re struggling for ideas (which is super common if you don’t wear makeup!)

Even if you have a couple of images to hand of what turns you off - this can help guide us on what NOT to do!

It’s all about what feels right to you. 🩵

If you’re planning your 2025 wedding we’ve some handy tips with regard to your Hair and Makeup Preview! 📅

🤔What’s a Preview?

Some people call this a trial. However, we like to call it a preview, “a dry run or practice” of how your hair and makeup will look on your wedding day!

❌ Why don’t we call this a Trial?

Some brides like to try out a few different Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists before committing to a booking with them.

If you’ve not yet booked your wedding hair stylist or makeup artist and would prefer to ‘Try Before You Buy’ we suggest booking a Special Occasion Hair and Makeup Appointment instead*

🎄Christmas is a great time to do this if you have an upcoming Christmas party to attend!

* Due to popular demand, sadly we’re unable to hold wedding dates until a deposit has been received.

What time should you start Hair and Makeup Prep on your Wedding Day? 👰⏰

When there’s 21 hair and makeup services to get through having an experienced Hair + Beauty team on board is recommended ~ as timing is key!

On Friday 2 of our Head Hair Stylists, 1 Lead Makeup Artist assisted by 1 Senior Makeup Artist made their way from Bournemouth and Poole to Bridport for Abbi’s wedding day.

The team were due to arrive for 8am but made it 20 mins early 🙌 so were able to relax whilst setting up and start working their hair and makeup magic, slightly ahead of schedule!

We organised a timeline to work around the mummas with bubbas and completed everyone’s hair and makeup successfully by midday. 🕛

The bride, bridesmaids, guests and flower girl all had plenty of time to slip into their dresses 👗 have hair and makeup touch ups/adjustments as well as first photos 📸 in time for a 1pm ceremony at Bridports whimsical woodland wedding venue 🌳🍂

What happens when you book your own Hair Stylist (and it’s not a Barnet + Boatrace one!) 🙊

Most of our brides find it a breeze booking both hair and makeup services with us as it keeps things simple with everything hair and beauty all under one roof. 🛖

From time to time brides 👰🏻‍♀️ make the decision to separate services and book their own hairdresser or another hair stylist instead! 😮

For the majority of weddings this scenario plays out well (as it did perfectly 👌🏻 here!) as we’d successfully collaborated with professional hair stylist on weddings 💒 before, so everything ran smoothly and to plan. 💪

Pre-wedding we managed to co-ordinate all 3 diaries 📔 so that both hair and makeup previews could take place on the same day and our mutual client could get a good overall feel for how her hair and makeup would look on her wedding day. 🙌

However, it’s not always plain sailing! ⛵️

We’ve had a couple of occasions this year where brides have reached out to us following a Preview with a Hair Stylist outside of the B+B team expressing their concerns as they weren’t 100% happy with the outcome. 😔 This in turn made them want to jump ship 🚢 and upgrade their booking with us instead.

We emphasise with anyone finding themselves in this situation, however we always recommend chatting things through with your hair stylist first to see if any issues can be ironed out.

You may initially feel awkward or out of your comfort zone, but trust us - your hair stylist would much rather have an honest discussion with you to see what tweaks need to be made or even arrange a second Preview rather than you cancel the booking with them.

If this doesn’t work out, we will at this stage check our availability to see if we can step in and help you. 🤗

Recently we’re finding so many brides are leaving it until just days before their wedding to book their Makeup Artist! 😱

1. They’ve been cancelled on! 😳

Olga and the team were always quick to respond, and their online invoicing system was easy to use.

On the day we had two brides, 8 bridesmaids and two mother of the brides, so despite a 1pm ceremony time we were worried about being up at the crack of dawn but Olga bought a team of 5 who started at 8 and had most of us done by 12!

They did touch-ups for everyone and were very accommodating of re-dos of one of the brides.
