Headscarves or scarves were used both as decorative pieces and functional accessories to keep hair out of the face while working.
They came in a variety of colors, sizes, and patterns and were worn either folded into a triangle and tied atop the head, worn around the head and knotted under the chin, or plaited into the hair and tied. π

There are quite a few 50s hairstyles for women that would work for a variety of hair lengths, but one of the simplest and most effective is the ponytail. The ponytail was actually a very prominent hairstyle for youths in the 50s, and if you expect to be dancing the night away, itβs a great way to keep your hair in check. ππΊ

The curly top bouffant became known as the Poodle Hairstyle. Half or all hair was gathered up on the top of the crown hanging over the forehead slightly. For some reason red hair became the preferred color for the poodle cut among the movie stars although plenty of blond, brown and black haired ladies wore it too.π
I have been fascinated with hair and makeup from the 1940βs since I was a little girl. I remember watching films of the age over and over again. Each time, I was blown away by how beautiful and glamorous the women always looked. I love the fact that the 1940s women always looked ΓΌber feminine and photo-shoot ready. The style of the era had a way of making even less attractive women seem breathtakingly stunning.
Over the next week I will be recreating 1940s victory rolls and using all the fabulous hair accessories they used back then. βοΈβ€οΈπͺ
