Portsmouth City Council presents Live At The Bandstand 2024 - open air live music every weekend from 25th May to 4th August 2024

With a fantastic line up for this summer the place to be on a sunny afternoon is the Bandstand. This is still one of the most popular FREE events in Portsmouth and enjoyed by all the family. So pack a picnic, blanket, chair and your sun cream and head down to Southsea. Not forgetting those all important dancing shoes for those of you who want to show off your best moves! oastal Defence works the Bandstand programme for 2022 is going on tour. Castle Fields will act as the primary venue for the shows. Free live music Saturday's and Sunday's starting 11th June - 24th September

LOST PROPERTY!

The Kite Festival team have let us know about a number of items of lost property still unclaimed from last weekend's event. In particular we're currently taking very good care of this beautiful little bunny, but would love to reunite it with its owner(s). Please could you help us to spread the word in the hope that we can get it home soon!

We also have a number of other items of lost property left over from last weekend - so please message us if you're missing anything and we can put you in touch with the team.

If you lose anything at a Live at the Bandstand event please contact our onsite security team in the first instance - or if you don't realise until after the show then send us a message and we can ask them for you.

We'll be back outdoors for one final show of the year tomorrow ☀

ABH Promotions have booked this Sunday's Live at the Bandstand - there's a slight change to the previously advertised line up, which is now Enjoyable Listens + Atticomatic + Pilot Light.

Bands will be onstage between 1PM and 4PM and we'll be setting up just across the road from our usual Castle Field spot (on the grass next to Southsea Skatepark). As always this is a free event - everyone welcome!

Due to concerns over tomorrow's weather forecast, we've made the decision to move Saturday's Live at the Bandstand indoors to the Edge of the Wedge on Albert Road so the show can go on whatever the weather. Strong Island Recordings have programmed a fantastic line up with the first artist onstage at 1pm.

A massive thank you to The Wedgewood Rooms for stepping in to save the day!

We'll be back on Castle Field again this weekend (Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th August).

Saturday's line up is curated by Strong Island Recordings who will be celebrating the broad spectrum of psychedelia with LIPWORMS, Rosie Alena and Jalou.

Over to Strong Island Recordings to tell you what they have in store for us:

Headlining the event is Portsmouth groove-laden, acid-techno-psychedelic meets krautrock outfit LIPWORMS, fresh from supporting Unknown Mortal Orchestra. With praise already from the likes of So Young Magazine, Rough Trade and Line of Best Fit, after the release of their debut single ‘Handshake’ via buzzy London label Slow Dance Records, LIPWORMS have been making a name for themselves across the capital and beyond with to their heady-mind-warping live show, garnishing a fierce reputation along the way as one of the best new live acts around.

Also returning to the city is Strong Island Recordings alumni being London artist Rosie Alena, who delves between otherworldly cinematic-folk and avant-garde-pop, along with flourishes of jazz and psychedelia. One of the absolute best voices in the country, Brit School alumni Rosie Alena, who very recently dropped two wondrous folk covers via London label and collective Broadside Hacks (The New Eves / Goblin Band), will bring the celestial spellbinding sounds to the seaside, akin to the likes of Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten and Weyes Blood. It’s going to be a transcending, almost out-of-body spectacle.

Opening for the day is Portsmouth dreampop meets shoegaze outfit, Jalou - that will be perfect for dusting off the cobwebs, with their beautiful shimmering dreamy sounds.

This weekend's Live at the Bandstand will be on Southsea Common, where The Wedgewood Rooms will be providing the soundtrack to the Kite Festival on Sat 27th and Sun 28th July. This is fantastic free event for all the family, which runs from 10AM through to 5PM both days.

This Saturday (20th July) Live at the Bandstand will be onsite at Castle Field, providing a little oasis of calm, wellbeing and world music from The People's Lounge.

Common Unity will be bringing workshops and stalls from 10AM, with music artists onstage from 1PM until the event ends at 4PM.

The weather is forecast to be HOT so please bring water, wear your sunscreen and look after yourselves - take a break in the shade if you need to!

This weekend (13th & 14th July) will be a youth takeover of Live at the Bandstand, with two line ups of the most exciting up-and-coming talent from around the Portsmouth area. We'll be at KGV Playing Fields in Cosham both days - come on down with a picnic and show your support for our local young musicians.
