This very grand Hall is home to the Earl and Countess of Derby.The Hall has extensive grounds and lawns, picturesque lakes and terraces and dates back to the 1500’s so boasts many beautiful and totally unique features and can be taken on an exclusive basis. Today, we remember Edward Lear on the anniversary of his death, the brilliant artist and writer whose connection to Knowsley Hall shaped one of his most iconic works, The Owl and the Pussy-Cat.

Lear spent nearly six years at Knowsley, invited by the 13th Earl of Derby to illustrate the Hall’s renowned menagerie. It was here, while entertaining the Earl’s grandchildren, that Lear penned his famous poem, now beloved around the world.

His legacy as both an artist and a writer lives on, with many of his works preserved in the Derby Collection.

Our wonderful Parks and Gardens team met huge challenges this weekend as Knowsley Hall became even more exclusive! Our estate was almost completely cut off by fallen trees due to Storm Darragh, but our team worked tirelessly to resolve this. All of the damaged trees have been reused as food for the ungulates, and larger logs for the lion and baboon enclosures at Knowsley Safari.

🌎 Today we celebrate #EarthDay ~ At Knowsley Hall, we are dedicated to preserving the beauty of our stately home and its surroundings for future generations. 💚 Our commitment to sustainability can be seen through various eco-friendly initiatives across the estate. ✅ We plant over 1,000 trees annually to aid in carbon offsetting. ✅ Our woodland habitat is carefully managed to support native birds and to supply our four biomass boilers, which heat homes across the estate. ✅ We generate energy using a hydro system that harnesses power from naturally flowing water. ✅ We grow most of our herbs on-site. ✅ Our irrigation relies on natural water collection rather than mains water. ✅ Our kitchen uses locally sourced lamb, beef, and game, reducing food miles and ensuring superior quality.
