🎼And now, the end is near…
After 10 fabulous years it is getting towards the time to hand the Flower Shop baton and Pinny of Servitude on to my wonderful Becky.
On 1st January Becky becomes the new owner of The Flower Shop.
Don’t worry, the team will remain the same and you won’t get rid of me as I will be still working 1 or 2 days a week- even Olive the dog will be here.
The rest of my time will be spent eating cake, drinking coffee and barking orders at John - some things never change

Memorable wedding no 3
Imagine the scene.. a warm spring day, a pretty Sussex church perched on top of a bank.
Perfect for a romantic wedding.
Our couple requested floral arrangements around the arch.
As the wedding day approached the weather forecast started looking grim.
By the day before the wedding galeforce winds were predicted to hit West Sussex.
A change of plan was needed.
Instead of a floral arch, we suggested vertical arrangements hugging the doorway.
On the day of the wedding Becky and I climbed out of the van. The wind almost blowing the door off the hinges.
We struggled up the path, the wind was blowing the flowers and foliage out of the buckets.
By the time we started half our flowers and our frame for the arrangements were flying towards Arundel. Our wholesaler couldn’t supply extra flowers so we resorted to using windfall foliage and crates from the van. Somehow we cobbled together a rustic display.
Ohh happy days!

Memorable wedding no 2.
Whilst I have public and employee insurance I am known for taking a pragmatic approach to Health and Safety.
Becky and I were setting up a wedding in a barn.
We have an installation check list. Cable ties, pot tape, bind wire….step ladders.
The job evolved installing a flower bomb ( big round ball of flowers) from a hook in a barn.
“Let’s take the big ladders” said Becky “ “ Rubbish” I muttered and shoved a short set in the van.
Bu**er!
The hook was 30ft above our head and attached to an immovable beam.
We found an old step ladder on site and persuaded Becky to climb the ladder, promising to hold the bottom.
We had one almighty falling out when Becky, wobbling on the ladder looked down to find me merrily taking photos from the other side of the room!

It’s Wedding season and as we reflect on the hundreds of weddings we have made over the years we thought we would share a few of our favourites
The photos are not always brilliant - we often take a quick shot as we leave but many have a story behind the photo!!

Wedding 1
This wedding is etched in our memory
Let me set the scene - three of us, including john set up the external arrangements outside the church.
The plan was to lurk around whilst the wedding was in progress then sneakily take the flowers down and rearrange for the reception.
All was going to plan until a toddler threw a tantrum.
Dad hastily picked the little boy up, popped him on his shoulders and left the church.
You guessed it, the child hit the central arrangement like a boxer with a punchbag.
The arrangement hit the deck showering the floor with petals.
Silence… prayers were being said both inside the church and outside.
All we could do was to wait for the hymns then hastily climb a rickety ladder and lasso the remnants to the arch.
As the bride left the church a new florists prayer was muttered “ Dear God, Please don’t let the arrangement collapse- and if it does then make sure the bride and groom have had their photos taken”.
Our prayers were answered!

Four weeks ago I popped in to see two of my favourite people, Sarita and Daryl.
They run greenham_makers in Stopham - a furniture restoration and upholstery business .
In the corner of the workshop a sofa, 120 years old, battered and covered in orange pvc was calling to me like an orphaned puppy…Take me home and love me!
Two weeks later, after Sarita and Daryl completely stripped and reupholstered her ( yes, she is definitely a lady) I brought her home.
Who else has a sofa upholstered to match their cats eyes!
