Finding was of neatly attaching care instructions and business cards to my bunches of flowers was difficult, and I was opting for staples.
Last week I discovered the "Staple-less Stapler" and it is now an integral part of my packaging set up.
I'm probably way more excited about this than most people, but i just thought it was such a brilliant idea. No waste, don't need to remember to buy staples.
AND most importantly
It now means wilderblooms packaging is officially 100% biodegrable. Be that in your compost bin or in landfill. All my packaging will break down within a year without poisoning the Earth. And i think that's something to celebrate

When I started WilderBlooms I knew a priority for me was to keep my waste minimal.
So often you see flowers presented in lavish boxes and bags, with glitter, polythene water bubbles, and polyester ribbons. Now that's not to say these can't be gorgeous, or that people don't reuse or recycle what they can. But realistically, it will ultimately end up in landfill.
With this knowledge in mind I have strived to make sure my packaging is simple and biodegrable. But I just felt it was too simple before and needed a bit of a glow up, to bridge the gap between being simple and reducing waste, but also being aesthetically pleasing for gifting.
So may I present my new packaging! What do you think?
With the new packaging we have: kraft paper, tissue paper, jute twine, paper tape and finished off with a logo stamp. (I currently use a stapler to attache flower care and business cards, but looking to replace this very soon)
Can be home-composted (except staple)
Recycled (except jute)
But importantly, everything biodegrades if it ends up in landfill.
One less thing on your mind 🥳

I planted 946 seeds today in my tiny greenhouse (5ft x 5ft).
I think people probably assume I have some huge operation going on here behind the scenes, but it's literally just me, scraping by, in my tiny plastic greenhouse weighed down with bricks 🫠
I found out a few weeks ago my current growing plot is secure til September (I thought i was losing in June, so now I'm rushing to start seeds to fill it with summer flowers for you all that will all bloom before September 😂

These gigantic 'Darwin hybrid' tulips a truly a spectacle.
- they are larger than my fist
- flattened they would be larger than a side plate.
I love these tulips. They are some of the first flowers I sold as WilderBlooms last April.
Sadly, as all gardeners and farmers will know. There's always something trying to foil you at every step. Be it pests, disease or weather.
This year it was rats!!
I planted 120 of these in October and shortly after flooding drove a family of rats out the fields and into the terrace of cottages I live in. Rats in the walls, loft and even my kitchen 🫠.
I didn't even notice until February that my flower bed was full of tunnels and only 15 of these giant tulips were emerging 😢
So sadly I won't be selling them this year. Keeping them for my own enjoyment. Maybe I will have more luck with them next year 🤞

Tomorrow is my first market stall for WilderBlooms and honestly I'm a bit nervous.
There are pros and cons to working from home but today it is a riot in here, absolute chaos.
I can't prepare all my stock in advance, I have to do all my arranging the day before.
Also I have absolutely no idea how much stock to bring. Will people buy it? Have I got too much?
The carpet is soggy, and my back hurts. Having a dedicated workspace would help. But at least I have the tele on in the background and endless cups of tea.
Come down to the Marine Hotel in Troon, Ayrshire tomorrow and say hi, help ease my nerves. I will be there between 11am and 4pm. Also it's inside so perfect indoor activity for this stormy weekend. There's loads of other talented local makers there, everything from candles to soaps to jewellery to gin. So come have a browse.

Seasonal bunches to me means what grows in the UK at this time of year.
So this week's bunches are tulips and iris, grown in Norfolk, and catkins and birch foliage collected by me here in Ayrshire.
These gorgeous bunches are a vibrant prequel to the vast variety that's going to be available over the summer.
What summer blooms are you looking forward to the most+
A few things Stocks, carnations, feverfew, statice and Godetia. Wish them luck 🤞
These flowers all grew in the UK in March. And i know exactly where they were picked.
Have you ever stopped to consider where your flowers came from? What country they grew in? And how they got to the UK? You'll have a hard/impossible time if you try to find out...
There's a growing movement of sustainable floristry in the UK at the moment. Florists who work with flowers that grew in the British climate, as locally to your home town as possible and im one of them. Hello Ayrshire, Scotland👋
What sets WilderBlooms apart from traditional florists:
1. I use compostable packaging such as paper, twine and natural fabrics. And for larger arrangements I use alternatives to traditional plastic floral foam such as chicken wire, moss and wool.
2. I skip the air miles and don't import flowers from abroad and work truly seasonally. All the flowers grew in the UK at that time of year.
3. I don't use preservatives or pesticides on the blooms I grow myself, and neither do my suppliers.
4. My suppliers are all small, independent businesses here on the UK.
There are no flowers if we don't support the planet, soils and climates in which they grow. If we kill the pollinators, and pollute the water supplies with microplastics.

It boils down to three main things:
1. You're paying for flowers, not packaging:
- flowers are a luxury good. I'm charging industry standard and i still have to double take at the price of them sometimes. The least I can do for you all is charge you less for the packaging your about to throw out once they reach their destination!
2. Sustainability is my mission:
- it doesn't matter if its recyclable or biodegradable, it's ultimately a manufactured good designed to be thrown away! I use high quality kraft paper to protect your flowers in transit, and jute or 100% cotton ribbon to secure this in place.
3. The flowers should be the star of the show:
- this is self explanitory 🥰

I harvest all my own foliage for the WilderBlooms christmas wreaths. I think one of my favourite things about what I do is knowing exactly where all my foliage and flowers come from (hint:its all here in Ayrshire ❤️)
