A family run and friendly Judo club, for beginners to Black belts. Students from 5 years old upwards. Juveniles and Juniors from 6-7pm, Seniors and older students from 7-8:30pm. With 42+ years of judo and associated martial arts experience, you will be well trained and looked after. Over the years, I have practiced Judo, Ju Jutsu, Aikido, Karate, Kempo Karate, Kendo, Iaido and Kyudo, but, have always come back to Judo. “Judo is a huge part of my life and has been since I was 4 years old. I enjoy it so much, because Judo is something that you can actually do and, you can see if it is working straight away.” Judo is great for staying in shape, keeping the mind active as well as giving students the confidence to have a go at anything life can throw (no pun intended) at you.
Gary, 四段 (4th Dan Judo) and the other assistant instructors at South Reading Judo Club, have all been trained by Sensei Bill Burnside, 8th Dan Hanshi Judo and life president of the IBC and, some of the other finest Budo minds around. The club started in April of 2014 and the numbers have continued to grow since then. “I had a few judo lessons at 4 years old then really stared to learnt Judo at Ashmead Boys school. Since then Ashmead has been changed to Thamesbridge Collage, then knocked down and re built as John Madejeski Academy, but I have carried on teaching, practicing and learning Judo in the Reading area since leaving the Army. I have fought nationally, internationally and have represented my Regiment in Judo. My children train at the club and have done so since it opened. Hopefully one day they will be in a position to run the classes for their old man when his knees finally give way and, their children will also be on the mat. It is so important to me to be able to pass on what I have learned from such a great man, to all of you that decide that the club is right for you”. The club will always welcome new and former Judoka from whatever organisation you were with. Free taster and trial sessions are available so why not give it a go. Please give Gary a call, send a message or send an email to [email protected] . If you are in the area feel free to stick your head in and say hello.
