HOW DO YOU AVOID THE WEIGHT OF SOCIAL MEDIA?
Sure social media is super important to every small business owner out there, it’s essentially free marketing and a way to connect with your audience.
How often though do we get bogged down with formulas; how often should I post, when should I post, what should I post….?
The answer is be consistent with your message and share content that is going to speak to your audience. Imagine if a town cryer came out day in and out just to tell you who took a dump yesterday or that Karen down the road lost her keys….we would stop listening if we thought they weren’t going to be telling us things that are relevant and that we want to hear, but use that medium with something important to say and everyone will listen. I know it’s a bit of an extreme analogy but sometimes when we are posting for the sake of posting we are creating white noise for our audience. They may just hit the snooze button!
BUT even if you are giving less frequently but with content that packs a punch, that’s better than little and often that offers no value.
Stories are a great way to keep your audience engaged in between posting and they are perfect for little and often snippets into your day to day, to get engagement (polls, questions, slider etc)
If you are comparing yourself to other accounts that can churn out X amount of posts per week, don’t forget that you don’t know their circumstances…they may have a team behind them working on their social media strategy, they may not have to juggle their business with another job or children etc and even if they do, maybe they just love creating social media content!
There are plenty of great accounts to follow for content hints and tips and those that can make you feel a little less overwhelmed by the social media hustle…

THE CUTE FACE 😊
When we really want something, we pull out all the stops to make it happen, but then when it finally gets to asking for what we really want, we can start to feel awkward. We may sometimes feel icky and desperate.
Remember that if you come from a place of serving others, you should never feel icky. You are solving a problem that your customer has and there is a mutual transaction taking place.
You don’t need to be giving people the ‘cute face’ to get them to buy from you, you just need to let people know what they can get from you, what results you can create and use testimonials and reviews to demonstrate those results.
Now go ask for what you want! The universe will also be listening!

THE TEMPER TANTRUM
So my daughter has a lot of them, she is 3; stubborn beyond belief and the simplest of things can trigger one. This morning it was because Theo chose her fruit shoot, despite them being both unopened and both the exact same. The other day it was because we walked home from the post office and I held her hand.
She tantrums because she is frustrated, frustrated that despite what she wants to do; the control she demands to have, she doesn’t have that control. Sound familiar?
We may not always do the kicking and screaming but in some way, shape or form we start kicking our toys out of the pram when sh*t tonnes of hard work doesn’t go our way. We can start to spiral, we start to doubt ourselves; lower our prices, talk down about our business ‘I only make crafts’ 😱 and some even give up altogether.
Instead you could…
1. Show up consistently on your socials, giving your following content that you feel is going to help them, entertain them, inspire them and take away any personal attachments to your content. Your engagement doesn’t define you as a person. Whether your reel flops or goes viral doesn’t make you less awesome. You are awesome for going out there and making something to try and connect your incredible business!
2. Talk about your outcomes; how you help people, what results they get from working with you, share reviews and testimonials…don’t be afraid to blow your own trumpet!
3. Discuss topics that are of interest to your ideal customers and of course to you. If your talking politics and it bores the pants off of you…they will sniff you out! Be you!!!
4. Allow them to relate to you by being real and authentic and letting them get to know the you behind the business. Stories and short videos are great for doing that!
5. Follow accounts that are ticking the boxes, getting following, engagement. Not so you can look at what they are doing and feel sh*tty about yourself, but because you can learn from them and be inspi
WANT TO REPLACE THE TUMBLEWEEDS AND CRICKETS?
Sometimes we get this because we just don’t have the right followers for the content we are creating. That can be because we’ve changed direction in our business and those that initially followed you were interested in your original concept or it could be that you are creating great content but just not what your ideal client is after.
The best thing to counteract this is to network with likeminded people and using communities to find more of your ideal clients. When we have found the right community we are in a place where we have found our cheerleaders; we feel supported; we feel heard and this makes us feel super confident to keep showing up as our authentic self.
If it’s our content that is letting us down then I am always on hand to help you create content that is relevant to your niche.
Our small biz hang out group over on Facebook is a place for small business owners to learn and grow together….and we don’t take ourselves too seriously either!

32 years ago today the world had yet to know how cross I can get at a computer when somethings not working.
The world was yet to see how smug I can be when I'm winning a board game and iy was yet to see how much gin and chocolate one woman can put away!
