🌸 In the pink styled shoot 🌸

This beautiful shoot took place in the glorious countryside setting of the Gaddesden Estate. The colour scheme was all the pinks, from soft blush through to vivid fuschia, and featured stunning cerise toned peonies - one of my all time favourites!
I love styled shoots as they’re a great way to meet other amazing suppliers, and they also allow me to experiment in ways I might not dare for a real wedding! For this shoot I was determined to create the floral columns and table centres foam free. The table centres were made using chicken wire and water - a little messy when transporting but easily topped up on arrival - and the floral columns were constructed using my favourite ‘mossages’, plenty of hardy foliage and water tubes for the more delicate flowers. Floral foam would have been easier and faster but at least this way when I dismantled my designs I wasn’t throwing away floral foam that will never biodegrade.
It’s great that there are lots of products constantly being developed that will allow florists to work foam free, and in the meantime, practice and experimentation will help develop more foam free ways of working.

⭐️A little more about me⭐️

Hi, I’m Laura, the face behind Grace & Violet. I thought I’d share a little more about me.

So, firstly, why is the business called Grace & Violet if I’m not called Grace or Violet? Well, technically I am called Grace - that’s my middle name and also my mum and my daughter’s middle name so a bit of a family name for us. And Violet is linked to my love of a pansy/viola. I just love their little ‘faces’ and they remind me so much of my mum and grandma, so again, a family and emotional connection.

I’m a northerner at heart - born in Lancashire and raised in Chester - but for the past 7 years have been happily settled in Chorleywood in Hertfordshire.
My husband is French so I have spent a bit of time living over in France and Switzerland, and now speak French and have dual nationality and two gorgeous, bilingual children. France and French are a big part of my life and my identity.

I’ve always been creative. I loved to draw when I was younger and dreamed of being an illustrator or interior designer, and always had a love of flowers thanks to my mum, so re-training as a florist back in 2017 made sense to me.

Other loves? Dancing, music, swimming and cats!

🌿Styled shoots🌿

Going back in time to my first ever styled shoot with a fabulous group of suppliers.
As a florist, shoots are always so much fun and give you the chance to really go for it and be creative. The brief was green with lots of eucalyptus and succulents and I certainly enjoyed the challenge of encorporating these gorgeous little plants into my arrangements.
I sourced locally grown dahlias and boy did the cafe au lait dahlia steal the show and make a showstopper of a bridal bouquet!
Such a great day and a lovely group of suppliers!

When couples come to me needing inspiration for how to decorate their venue, sometimes an installation like a floral archway is a great solution as a back drop for the ceremony but also as a focal point for the whole of the wedding day.⁠
At Gemma and Aaron's wedding it created the perfect back drop for their vows, and also for the rest of the day as it framed the main entrance to the reception room - the perfect spot for guests to stop and take a photo.⁠
We kept it natural and minimal, but it could be as big and as floral as you like. It's your wedding so you decide!⁠

Meadows 🌿🌷

I love meadow arrangements - such a simple and versatile option for your wedding flowers that really pack a punch!
Line them up down the aisle as a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony, then move them to the reception venue and line them up along the front of the top table/use them to frame a sweetheart table/decorate fireplaces, mantelpieces, staircases… anywhere really!
These stunners were created with beautiful spring flowers - anemones, tulips, ranunculus and butterfly ranunculus, were just some of the blooms included.

Silvija and Sam had the most stunning wedding day with beautiful classic arrangements in white with a touch of pale pink. Full of beautiful hydrangea and roses, the large urns and tall table centres created an impact and coordinated beautifully with their surroundings.
The bridal bouquet was simple and elegant, also with a mix of white hydrangea and roses, perfectly complementing Silvija’s classic yet elegant dress.
Silvija and Sam were so lovely to work with and it was a joy to create these beautiful arrangements for them.

Sara & Mike’s Summer wedding 🌸

As summer draws to a close I’m looking back on Sara and Mike’s wedding full of fun and laughter. Sara wanted a soft colour palette of pinks, whites and creams and a delicate bridal bouquet that would compliment her sleek and simple wedding dress. The bridesmaids bouquets and buttonholes complemented the bridal bouquet, and delicate bud vases decorated the reception venue.
It was such a joy to be part of their day and to hear how much Sara loved them ☺️🌸

It’s been a busy week prepping for Silvija and Sam’s wedding at Moor Park. White hydrangea mixed with white and blush pink roses made for arrangements grand enough for the elegant setting.

One thing I love is when a couple comes to me with an idea of a colour palette and a look or style that they’re going for, but not much idea for which flowers they’d like to use. I love finding ideas that perfectly hit the nail on the head and are just what the couple were picturing but unable to put into words.
For this shoot I had just a colour palette to work with, everything else was left up to me so I chose peonies in a bold pink alongside a mix of roses in bold and soft pinks, astrantia, astilbe and eucalyptus. A perfect match for the bride’s beautiful dress 💕🌸💕

What would be my top tip when planning your wedding day?
Remember what’s most important to you, don’t let others’ feelings or expectations affect your plans, don’t feel like you have to stick to traditions just because that’s what your ‘supposed to do’ and go with your gut when choosing your suppliers - go for the ones you feel get you and your vision, that way you can really relax on the day and enjoy it!

It was so nice to get back to doing some wedding flowers this weekend, and what a glorious weekend it was!

Mhairi and James had a small wedding in Chorleywood and Mhairi chose white with a touch of blue to match her bridesmaids’ dresses.
I added in some cream and blush and a hint of green to keep the colour palette warm at the same time as having the fresh whites in there. Delphiniums added that subtle blue that she was looking for.

A lovely bouquet that headed out of the studio today. Roses, stocks, ranunculus, tulips and clematis in a mix of purples and pinks and mixed with some lovely green viburnum foliage.
