I like to think all the Dads in heaven get to come down today and spend it with their loved ones. But you must invite them. Say their names, play their favourite music and tell that joke that made everyone groan. They will come. The thing about love is, it doesn’t die, you see. It places precious parts of souls in loved one’s hearts and that, that lasts an eternity. Much longer than we can imagine. So, if you are finding today hard, look for them in the moments… I believe they’re trying really hard to let you know, they’re still here.

I am attending a memorial service this
afternoon organised by John Weir Funeral
Directors whom I have been proud to work
alongside for the last seven years. Many
bereaved families are due to attend and
they will be welcomed by the wonderful
team of arrangers, bearers, directors,
drivers, as well as other celebrants and
ministers.

Holding the lives of all those being
remembered close to my heart as we
honour their light and the gifts they
brought to the world.

Today can be a day of conflicting emotions for many of us as we mark Fathers Day in the UK. In addition to the many families who celebrate today with joy, there are others who may have never known their fathers or who have fractured or difficult relationships with their dads. Sending love to all those for whom today is complicated, difficult or a source of pain. And for those whose fathers were a beloved source of guidance and support but who are no longer here with us, I hope that these beautiful words from the infinitely wise Helen Keller bring you some sense of comfort.
