Hello and it’s the weekend again!

Time has really flown this week and I’ve been super busy with Valentines and generally flower filled requests this week but I’m loving this pretty combination of snaps, frilly tulips, roses and anemones.
Sometimes a combination really comes together harmoniously and just looks really pretty, hope you like it too?
Make my day and give me a like if you do 😊🌺

Here’s a spring inspired basket of flowers which made a lovely surprise birthday gift yesterday. It’s got some lovely double purple tulips, clematis, Limonium, cappuccino roses, eryngium and phlox.

It would make a lovely workshop project for Easter, if anyone would be interested in this let me know.

The dahlias are just about holding on but these may be the last few beauties as the temperatures are starting to drop and the light levels are reducing. I’m loving these bronze and copper hues that match the colours of the season so beautifully. These are American dawn and Cornel bronze and a couple whose names I forget! I’ll definitely be growing these next year, they’re so pretty.

Hope you like them too, if you do please give them a like as it will cheer me up so much! 🙏😊

Loving these late summer dahlias with fountain grass. The dahlias have been great this year, so many beautiful blooms from each plant. They really are a great value flower that gives amazing colour and shape when so many plants are going over.

Dahlias and amaranthus and lovely copper and red coloured beech leaves in this arrangement.
Ive used lovely autumn colours here which seem to appear as summer comes to an end and autumn begins.
If you’ve never grown amaranthus before, it’s very easy to grow and produces masses of these trailing flower stems which trail over the edge of a vase. I love it. Are you a fan?

Dahlias are looking so lovely at the moment and there are still more that haven’t flowered yet. The fountain grass is brilliant as a frothy green contrast. It also sends up side shoots so lasts for weeks as does the zinnias which have never been so good, they’re obviously loving all the sun we had earlier in the summer.

What’s been particularly good or bad for you this year?

Hi everyone! 🌼🌼
I really enjoyed putting these flowers together as they’re some of my favourites. I love blue flowers and delphiniums are one of the best, they’re so elegant and give great height to an arrangement. I also love ammi, it’s like adding lace to a bouquet and gives it a lovely light and delicate look.
There’s nothing nicer than giving flowers to make someone’s day special!

If you’ve never grown them try morning glory or ipomoea.

They are the most beautiful blue flowers that only last a day and flower from first thing in the morning as the name suggests. They come in a range of brilliant blues and purples and I love all blue flowers so this is a winner.

They’re a vine, so a climber, they’re very easy and really fast to grow. They get to about 5 or 6 foot tall but can be trained sideways or downwards.

They’re a great first time gardener flower as they provide almost instant results, they grow as fast as sunflowers, so quick results and ideal for little ones.

The seeds are big and germinate in just a few days, you can almost see them growing.

They do prefer to be warm so grow indoors and keep warm and plant out when last frost is over. Just provide some support and you’ll have lovely blue trumpet flowers all summer long.

Ask me a question about them.

It might be raining outside but everything is coming to life in the garden and here are some highlights this week.
Everything is suddenly looking lovely and colourful with daffodils and muscari making everything look like an explosion of yellow.
The forsythia is flowering all along its yellow stems, as well as the magnolia stellata with its white star shaped flowers. The camellia is full of red flowers, not quite in keeping with the yellow theme, but it  has been in the garden for years so I can’t get rid of it as it flowers so early and has loads of lovely glossy dark green leaves (great for buttonholes).

All the bulb planting in the autumn is worth it now when the rewards are a garden full of scent and colour in the spring. I’m doing lots of bulb pot swapping which means planting in plastic pots which perfectly fit the lovely terracotta pots I have but means I can switch them over when they’re finished and make a continuous display. I’ll do a post when the rain stops to show what I mean.
Next is the tulips which are already full of buds, in the garden and all 700 of them at the allotment! It’s going to look spectacular. I can’t wait as I can’t really remember what I’ve planted so it’s a surprise when I see them all!

What are your highlights and what are you most looking forward to?

💐Candy

Did you get snow or have you got some? It’s definitely not spring yet! But it’s amazing how the garden recovers. It’s all gone today, the rain has washed it away.

Toffee roses! Aren’t they gorgeous? Such an unusual colour but goes with so many colours like blue and purple, they’re the opposites on the colour wheel so make an amazing combination that really stands out. They would also look lovely with deep reds and bright greens as they’re on the same side of the colour wheel isn’t nature amazing?

If you’re wedding planning, perhaps after a surprise proposal this week I may be able to help.
It can be a difficult navigating the endless possibilities of wedding flowers, but I can help by distilling your ideas into floral combinations to make your wedding day unique. Get in touch by DM or website https://candysflowers.co.uk

Happy valentines Day

There are lots of stories about the origins of Saint Valentine but the one I like best is that he restored the sight of the blind daughter of his jailer after he was imprisoned for helping Christians to marry, which at that time was against Roman law. The story goes that he wrote the jailer's daughter a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell before his ex*****on on the 14th of February which is why we celebrate around the world on this day.

Whatever you’re doing today regardless of Valentine’s Day have a lovely day.

If you saw the bulbs I ‘planted’ last week in pots with moss hiding the plastic, this is how they look now, they flower so fast when brought indoors. I’m keeping some more outside in the cold to replace these when they’ve gone over.
It’s so nice to see spring bulbs, a little taste of spring in the cold weather.
Do you have any tips for indoor bulbs?

One of the last deliveries before Christmas but I’m loving this colour combination, it’s not too Christmassy with a nice mix of astrantia, daucus, peachy pink roses, eucalyptus and chrysanths and eryngium. So many people have birthdays just before Christmas so it’s nice to have some beautiful flowers to celebrate.
