Even without the rain, and under this hot July sun, the field is still full of colour and life.

The butterflies have been everywhere, bees deep in the flowers, and the rows have been generous—blooms cut for orders, for drying, and just a few for me.

It’s been a week of early starts, harvesting, deadheading, and trying to keep pace with the heat. A familiar rhythm, even if it’s been a bit relentless.

A weekend off now—apart from the watering—and hoping the cooler weather arrives. Though the promised rain seems to have quietly disappeared from the forecast.

Here’s a little of the beauty from the field this week. If you’re a florist and would like these kinds of flowers in your hands, the weekly list goes out by email. Link’s in the bio.

It started as a few stems for me… then I kept picking.

Gathered from the field on Wednesday evening—cosmos, sweet peas, ammi, and the first scabious.

Chosen for their beauty, movement and scent—each one with something a little bit special.

Nothing complicated— just freshly picked flowers, harvested at their best and arranged simply to show how easily they come together. Bright, light, and full of mid-summer character.

If you’re a florist looking for seasonal flowers like these, you can join my mailing list via the link in bio to hear what’s available, fresh from the field.

Drying flowers at home? It’s simple and so satisfying to have a little stash ready for winter wreaths, flower crowns or just something pretty in a jug when the garden’s quiet.

Here’s how to do it:
(And yes—I’ve got flowers perfect for drying right now, available this week. Check your inbox or DM me for the list.)

Step 1: Unwrap + Strip the stems

Step 2: Make small bunches + tie with twine or an elastic band

Step 3: Hang them upside down in a dry spot with airflow – no direct sun

Step 4: Leave for 2–3 weeks until fully dry, then store somewhere cool

Ready to try? Send me a DM for details.

The poppies.

Fleeting, but totally beautiful.

Most of these were sown over the spring bulbs, which worked surprisingly well—though next time I’ll stake them. Noted.

They’ve been a joy to have in the field. A bit of a tangle, but I don’t mind that. The bees don’t either.

Still a few hanging on, but with the heat coming, they might be done.

So here’s a little montage in their honour.

Thank you.

It’s a week of bouquets — these were made as thank-yous and were such a pleasure to put together. A nice change of pace from the field, with more to come over the next few days.

Bouquets aren’t the main part of what I do, but I always enjoy making them. All made to order, using whatever’s looking best in the field that day.

Fresh flowers, grown here and arranged with care — a simple way to show your appreciation.

A rare Saturday at home — I’m usually up at the field. But my husband was away, and it rained on and off, so I stayed back with the boys.

At their request, we went out in the rain to run wild in the park (them, not me) — and later, while they dried off and regrouped with snacks and PlayStation battles, I pulled together this little arrangement using leftovers from the week’s orders.

It’s in one of my favourite vases — loose, wild, just lightly gathered. Nothing complicated, just a moment of play.

And — can you spot her?

Rudbeckia Green Wizard - I’ve been trying to grow her for three years, but the slugs usually get there first. This year, the plants made it. And I’m quietly thrilled. Those dark centres and green, star-like ruffs — I just think she’s magic.

The house was noisy, the weather indecisive, and somehow this little vase came together in the middle of it all. It felt good to make something.

Hope you had a good weekend too.

Sharing some stills of Friday’s bowl.

I always feel a little torn when using images in reels as you don’t get the pleasure of really looking at what you’re being shown.

Lots of my growing choices and flower arranging ideas come from studying some of the beautiful photos talented people have shared on this app.

I know this isn’t going to increase my reach but sometimes artistic endeavour is more important.

And I love these photos.
