Behind the scenes - A portrait session with Ken
I recently posted on my town's local page asking for volunteers for a quick portrait. The idea is to use any downtime I have to create work.
It's easy to procrastinate and waste time when not actively shooting or editing so I set myself the task of utilising all the time I had to shoot portraits and build up my portfolio.
I've been experimenting with this new lighting set-up inspired by the work of Martin Schoeller. The more portraits I take the closer I am to defining a body of work. So far there hasn't been a connection between the people I have photographed, but with each sitting, I'm thinking about how I might apply this and create a project which says something more than the technique itself.
So Ken kindly volunteered and came to my studio a few weeks back. One thing I love about these sessions is the chance to simply meet new and interesting people. It normally only takes 10-20 minutes but it's enough time to chat and learn about their personal story.
Thanks Ken 👍

Some behind-the-scenes GoPro footage of a recent portrait session in my studio.
These four siblings were great from the off. Comfortable in front of the camera and happy to laugh at my really bad dad jokes (it's the best material I have).
This was a portfolio shoot, continuing with my setup inspired by Martin Schoeller's two-light system.
