RYE TOWN COUNCIL ARE RECRUITING!
Town Hall Attendant - Ceremonies & Civic Events

You will attend ceremonies taking place at Rye Town Hall, as the Responsible Person required under our ceremony venue licence. Working with the Town Crier you will ensure couples and their guests receive a warm welcome to the Town Hall; co-ordinate all attendees to ensure ceremonies run smoothly; look after guests and liaise with the Registrars.

You will also be required to attend the Town Hall to unlock and lock up for general lets and be on call throughout (via phone) in case of any problems; undertake viewings of the Town Hall for prospective hirer’s and assist with Town Council and civic events.

Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills; be adept at putting people at ease and able to deal with the unexpected in a calm manner. Experience of organizing events, in particular weddings, would be an advantage. Hours for this role are primarily weekends, with some evenings and weekdays, with the peak season from May to September.

Why do we need two registrars?

Marriage legislation states that civil ceremonies must take place in the presence of two registrars.

Each Registrar has their own responsibilities. The Celebrant Registrar will conduct the ceremony to include your personal touches. The Deputy Registrar handles the paperwork and ensures all legalities are completed, making sure it's official!

You also need two witnesses. So forget three; we reckon two is the magic number.
