Bride's bouquet from last month. Ranunculus, geums and bluebells.
We’re in for a windy week (again!). These tulips are looking happy though - they’ll be flowering soon #tulipseason #ryeflowers #pyoflowers #easterflowers
Our flower farming year - 2023. Anyone like to guess how many varieties we planted and sold this year? Put your guess in the comments.

We are delighted to now be able to share the wonderful news that our beautiful, scented, spring flowers will be part of Flowers from the Farm’s gift to Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their Coronation.
Alongside seasonal flowers and foliage from fellow growers in all four nations of the UK, our blooms will decorate the Quire and the Grave of the Unknown Warrior of Westminster Abbey during Saturday’s Coronation Ceremony.
Flowers from the Farm has been working closely with floral designer and sustainable floristry advocate @Shaneconnollyandco to bring the beauty, joy and variety of local, seasonal flowers to the heart of this historic occasion.
We are proud to be members of Flowers from the Farm, the membership association that champions nearly 1000 independent, artisan growers of local, seasonal cut flowers right across the UK.
The flowers have been grown in harmony with the seasons, outdoors and in polytunnels, on allotments, cutting gardens and walled gardens. Since every plot has its unique growing and weather conditions, the displays in Westminster Abbey of more than 4500 stems will reveal a unique floral tapestry of springtime in the UK.
Flowers from the Farm members teamed up to relay buckets of fresh flowers to local hubs, regional hubs and then onto the main hub in South Gloucestershire, where they were sorted and prepared for Shane Connolly to arrange at Westminster Abbey.
The Coronation marks a landmark moment for the global flower farming movement. It demonstrates that local, seasonal flowers deserve to be seen at state occasions just as much as they do in bridal bouquets, funeral tributes or vases in the home.

We've started to sow a few seeds...
Propagation space is limited so I sow some each week and move the trays around like some giant Tetris game. They are started on heat mats - in the shed or in the greenhouse.
If it's something I've never sown before, or I know that germination can be erratic, then I'll start them off in a 1/2 size seed tray. Normally just sown on the surface and covered with a sprinkling of vermiculite.
I sowed
Mallow
Phlox
Rudbeckia
And some first-year flowering perennials
As soon as they germinate I'll take them off the heat and put them in the cool greenhouse for a week or so before I prick them out.

DAY 8 of the #flowerfarmerama challenge.
Who/what keeps you company when you're working?
As a flower farmer you spend a great deal of time on your own so having a four-legged 'helper' is great. Daisy loves being a flower farm dog - she spends her time outside hunting for mice and voles and sometimes even catches one and eats it which makes a horrible noise.
I'm not quite sure what she's doing up on the greenhouse bench but she's obviously trying to tell me something 🐾

DAY 3 : HOW DID WE GET HERE? #flowerfarmerama
Our flower farm is in East Sussex in the South East of England - we have 10 acres of woods and fields - using about 1 acre to grow flowers and foraging the rest for greenery and branches.
This will be our 7th growing season, providing locally grown flowers. We have great plans for 2023 which we’ll share during the month.
Now though, it’s time to sow sweet peas and pot up chrysanthemums 🌸

Today, 23 December is
Little Christmas Eve
In Denmark, it's the not-so-flashy forerunner of Christmas Eve, an evening of eating rice pudding and drinking sweet, non-alcoholic beer (to be ready for wine on Christmas Eve, of course).
Celebrated in our house in honour of my Danish grandmother - this is one of our celebrations from a few years ago. #JUL #takformad
