Back in the summer I was asked to create farewell flowers for a local farmer. His family asked me to forage and gather from the farm. The hedgerows and land he had managed and cared for all his life, walked past every day. I took from his favourite Cob tree, corn from the field, spikes of Teasel growing among the nettles, Hawthorn and Field Maple, purple Knapp W**d and rusty coloured Sorrel growing on the verges. I then added flowers I had grown only a village away, some of his favourites: Dahlia, Snapdragon and Achillea and a zing of Lady’s Mantle.
It is such a privilege to be asked to provide family flowers for a loved one’s funeral, and a privilege to walk round a beautiful, old fashioned family farm in the height of summer.
