"There's no spot in all the world like Dobles Wall" ..and no better place to air a chorus of the late John Barber's timeless St.Ives classic. Hence our little gathering on Monday afternoon...sunshine and all!

We're proud to be producing a new version of the 1927 song with John Barber's daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Edward Tanner, along with St.Ives community music leader Katrina Geraghty and film-maker Tony Mason.

With Sylvie and Treve Nicol adding a new generation's vocals and with Kari Prince's moving cello, the aim of our new version is to keep this wonderful song alive and to honour its enduring place in St.Ives' ever-evolving story.

Watch this space - and Tony's Youtube channel Cornishpastyman - for the film's release in the near future.

ps, thanks to Graham Trevorrow for joining us as he happened to be passing by - and to that starling for adding such fine vocal top notes!

Thanks also to Kim Nicol for coming to film and photograph the occasion.

We're loving this new collaborative project at Symphony Woods on the edge of Bodmin Moor! Our visitors from Coads Green Primary School were awesome - this is a wonderful school that makes time for regular outdoor learning and it really shows. Our follow-up session the day after led to some Cornish language-based rhythm and melody development that will all go into Coad Green's very own movement of our New Wood Symphony - details to follow! Many thanks to CMST for their support, including these beautiful photos.

RIP our friend, Cornish Bard Mick Paynter.

We were lucky enough to work with Mick on our film about Newlyn's Rosebud.

He translated the introductory sections into Cornish. We met up in Tesco carpark, St.Ives, where he dictated his Cornish dialogue into a phone while sitting in the back of our van!

We wanted Mick to make a cameo appearance in the section of live portraits towards the end of the film (pictured) and kindly took care of this.

We corresponded with Mick on a number of projects thereafter and are proud to have worked with such an eminent creative writer and scholar.

The Rosebud film can be found on Youtube on our Global Jamming channel - Cornish subtitles are available for the whole film, thanks to Mick's students Barnaby Carver and Tony Hak. There isn't (yet) a caption category for Cornish language, so we put it as Breton for now 🤷🏻 :).

Thank you for your inspiration Mick.

Pictured is Harvey, a much loved cat from Down'long, who sadly left us in 2020. See Harvey St Ives - memories for more on this exceptional son of St.Ives.

+Our fabulous final acoustic performers

We are rearing to go tomorrow! Here is our current running order, subject to a little flexibility(!)

Music starts at 2pm.

Don't forget to check out Jacob Wheeler's 'Songwriting by Storytelling' workshop at 3pm.

We are really excited to announce our acoustic performers (slides 3 and 4):
- Jess Borders
Jess, 22, writes folk-influenced songs, weaving stories and melodies inspired by her surroundings in Penwith.

- Leila & Jack
A captivating 14-year-old singer-songwriter who performs soulful melodies alongside fellow singer-songwriter Jack. Their unique blend of acoustic folk and R&B creates a powerful connection with their audience.

We'll see you tomorrow!

Our Story

Global Jamming St.Ives is the next chapter of Penwith Jamming. We are musicians who run musical events. Our aims are to have fun, bring people together and to support social and environmental causes/campaigns that we identify with.

We started out running free performance events for young musicians in our home area, including the ten Island Jams, marquees at Ayr Field Day and St.Ives Alive, a bunch of Acoustic Jams at local libraries and the like.

More recently we’ve been running drumming circles, acoustic music evenings and we’re involved in local samba drumming.

Our main focus at present is to work with musicians via our fb and Instagram pages to raise awareness and money to support Collective Aid, an NGO providing essential services to displaced people in Europe. Keep in touch via this page if you'd like to be involved in some way - or to involve us in something you’re doing.
