It seems like only yesterday that I had the privilege of leading Amy and Peter's wedding ceremony...but no, a full two years have gone by!
Which is why it's been so lovely of them to send me a picture from their venue which they revisited this week by way of a special anniversary celebration. Seeing them so relaxed and happy took me right back to their wedding day at Mitton Hall.
Gorgeous wedding, gorgeous couple!

So thrilled that Lucy and Kris have asked me to be their wedding celebrant!
I feel like I already know them pretty well as I led the naming ceremony for their little girl earlier this year and it's a real boost to be invited back to help them celebrate once more!
They're such an interesting couple too. We had live music and some brilliant storytelling at the naming ceremony. I wonder what we'll go with this time...?

Liveliest planning meeting EVER with Andy and Neil! So many ideas flying about that it's taking quite a while to get to the final version of the script.
But they know the kind of atmosphere they need for their ceremony so we will be tinkering and changing for as long as it takes until we've absolutely nailed it!
Such a shame though that their chosem venue can't cope with doggy ringbearers..
Then again, the delightful Colby, the cutest dog on the world, might prove to be a distraction on the day, not least for a celebrant still in "between dogs grief".
By the way, what an amazing little bar Colby's is! If you're handy for Stretford, you should deffo check it out.

I get loads of questions about what goes into one of my humanist naming ceremonies so I thought I'd share a few ideas from my most recent one.
Each ceremony is tailored to the way the family wants to welcome their child into the world. Yes, there are some familiar elements such as parent and guide parent promises but after that, we can allow our imaginations to take flight!
So, in this case, we discovered that the traditional meaning of the name Ilvy is "little she-wolf", which gave us an idea for a running theme.
What better way to welcome her into her pack of family and friends than a rousing wolf howl!
Also, it was wonderful to have time before the ceremony to encourage the older children to decorate their wolf masks and rehearse their cries. And lovely to see them all sitting on the front row, poised for their wolf howl cue!
But this was just one special feature. Other examples were the wishing tree, the candle lighting ritual, bubbles, music, and bilingual elements to make those who had travelled from Germany feel even more welcome.
Why not get in touch to arrange a chat about how I can help you create your child's special naming day celebration?

Nicki A Weddings On Tour!
Such a privilege to conduct Vijay and Michelle's wedding in London last week!
Although I must admit that the excitement of intercity travel plus working out which lift would get me to the top of the Gherkin made my head spin a little...or was that the altitude?
In any case, those views were spectacular and a suitably glamorous setting for a really glamorous couple!
There were so many highlights in this wedding, not least a love lock ceremony. Hands intertwined, Michelle and Vijay held their lock as a symbol of their unbreakable commitment to each other whilst beautiful words were spoken to wish them well.
On their first wedding anniversary this lock will be secured in a ( responsibly designated) place in Paris, the city where Vijay proposed. So romantic!
As a contrast, I also loved telling the couple's story with many funny elements...the gentle teasing of the bride and groom resonated with their guests who appreciated the references to their peccadilloes.
Which is what's so fabulous about a Humanist celebrant led wedding ceremony. We can make it all about the unique individuals getting married.
And, as I only do one wedding per day, I can take my time in the telling of their story!

It's been my privilege to lead several naming ceremonies for adopted children and, as I have personal experience of the adoption process, I feel a special kind of connection to families wanting to welcome their child to their "forever home".
How do these ceremonies differ from ones where I collaborate with birth parents?
Firstly, there's the way you tell the story. There's clearly been a tricky start to this youngster's life and so we probably won't be starting with the day they were actually born.
The adoptive parents won't be able to tell me the circumstances of their child's adoption; that part of the story belongs to the child alone and must be told only when they are ready to hear it.
There may be some contact with birth siblings, grandparents...how do we acknowledge this?
It's really important to try to create tangible memories for the child being welcomed into a new community of family and friends. In times of uncertainty, that house-shaped memory box containing best wishes from all present at the ceremony or looking out at the tree planted by the family in the garden on that day, might offer the kind of encouragement to make all the difference.
I'm taking bookings now for summer namings. Please get in touch if you'd like to chat.

Can't believe it's been a whole year since Amy and Peter's wedding! Happy first anniversary, Mr and Mrs Holland!
It was such a happy and meaningful occasion with a meaningful candle lighting ceremony to symbolise the joining of two families as well as two individuals.
And the live music you chose was absolutely beautiful!
Thank you for embracing the possibilities in a Humanist celebrant led wedding ceremony! I loved helping you create the most significant part of your day.

Can't believe it's a year since Bex and Hannah's wedding!
Loved leading this ceremony, not least because we turned lots of elements on its head.
Firstly,we decided to switch round the usual seating arrangements ( thank you, University of Manchester staff for being so accommodating).
And then we started with the guests enjoying champagne in the foyer while Hannah and Bex had a private moment together In the ceremony room.
I had to lead the guests up one of those gorgeous Victorian staircases and then the ceremony began!
One of the most joyous weddings I've led, with plenty of impish humour and ad libs, not just from me. And everyone dancing out at the end.
Brilliant!
