Events include 5km, 3.8 and 1500m

As you are probably aware, extensive flooding on New Year’s Eve has affected many areas of Sale and Altrincham. The water park is a flood basin and the sluice gates were opened in the early hours of New Year’s Day to protect housing. Consequently the water is carrying a lot of sediment washed down from the Pennines. This will take 6-8 weeks to clear after which we will have the water tested for swimming suitability. Historically, post flood, the water quality improves so we should be able to resume swimming in late February. We will keep you aware of progress and look forward to seeing you all back with us soon

Here at BBC Radio Manchester, we swam 24 miles – the length between Ashton-under-Lyne & Ashton in Makerfield.
