GEOFF HIGGINBOTTOM MEMORIAL CONCERT - UPDATE.
Sadly, due to a variety of reasons, it has not been possible to get the proposed concert to work on the available date. Instead, I am working on the POSSIBILITY of holding a Virtual get-together via Zoom! which will give people the opportunity to celebrate Geoff's life and their involvement in it. At the same time I hope to set up an opportunity for anyone who so wishes to make a contribution to a charity collection, to be divided equally between The Christie Hospital and The MacMillan Nurses.
As soon as I have a firmer arrangement in place I will post here.
Thanks to those people who were able to commit to the original idea and I hope you will still be able to get involved in this alternative way.

So far, the response to my earlier post about a Geoff Higginbottom Memorial Concert has been almost nothing. Only two people have said they will want tickets.
I feel it's unfair to the Ukrainian Cultural Centre to wait until a few weeks befor ean event and then cancel it, leaving them no opportunity to re-hire the venue.
Therefor, if I have not received a significant improvement in requests for tickets and for volunteers to perform by Saturday 18th October the event will not go ahead. Please see all details below.

GEOFF HIGGINBOTTOM MEMORIAL CONCERT
SATURDAY 15th NOVEMBER 7.30pm
UKRAINIAN CULTURAL CENTRE, SMEDLEY LANE, CHEETHAM
!PLEASE PUT THIS DATE IN YOUR DIARY!
Now is the time to commit to attending, so please let me know if you want tickets. I won't be using TICKETMASTER or any other ticketing app, I'll just be taking names and reserving spaces for the evening, so please don't leave it to the last minute.
Email me using [email protected] with your name, email address, contact number and number of seats required and I'll add you to the list.
If you want to book a table for a group (minimum 6, maximum 12) please specify that too.
If you would like to perform, I'll be allocating spaces on the bill on a 'first-come, first-served' basis, so you need to get in quickly, using the same email address.
All proceeds and any donations will be divided equally between Christie's Hospital and MacMillan Nurses.
PLEASE SPREAD THE NEWS OF THIS EVENT TO ANY FRIENDS OR FANS OF GEOFF'S WHO MAY WANT TO ATTEND.

Well, what a grand evening we had last night at The Ostrich! 5 musicians and 11 audience members made for a cosy crowd in a lovely room. The beer was good, the service was great (we even had a very efficient, quiet pot collector!), and the evening flew by. We had songs of all sorts, chat about even more sorts and a short history lesson about The Ostrich. Next month I won't be able to be there, but the rest of the crowd will be carrying on the good work in my absence. Thanks to Wayne for the photo, see you in September, Martin.

I asked AI to create a picture of an ostrich hiding its head in a guitar but it seemed to struggle with the difference between in and out! Anyway, don't forget to re-set your satnav to our new location for tonight's session. THE OSTRICH 163 Bury Old Rd, Prestwich, Manchester M25 1JF. We'll kick off at about 8.30pm. Bring your voices, instruments and best applause and we'll see you there.

Hi everyone, I've secured a new home for the All Things Considered Acoustic Session. From Tuesday 15th July we will be taking over a delightful room, just off the main bar area at The Ostrich Hotel163 Bury Old Rd, Prestwich, Manchester M25 1JF

The landlord and landlady, Jay and Julie, are delightful and very supportive, and I look forward to developing our relationships with them as the months progress. THEY HAVE DRAUGHT BEER!

They also have a huge beer garden, with a purpose-built stage, which we may take advantage of at some time in the future - watch this space !

So, spread the word and do your best to get down and give us a rousing first night

8.30PM TUESDAY 15th JULY

I'd like to thank Mark at the DBA for his hospitality over the last year or more and wish him well with his events at the pub going forward.,

GEOFF HIGGINBOTTOM MEMORIAL CONCERT.

As many of you already know, the idea of a Memorial Concert to raise money for Christie's and MacMillan Nurses was discussed at Geoff's wake. There was resounding support for the idea and i have now provisionally booked the main hall at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, Smedley Lane, Cheetham, for the evening of Saturday 15th November 2025.

Now, it's over to you.

We want to celebrate the great contribution Geoff made to folk music and to do this we need acts willing to perform for free! (although it may be possible to provide travel expenses to anyone coming from a distance)
So, if you'd like to throw your hat in the ring, please say so here and also, email me using [email protected] so I can start compiling an emailing list for communication.
Also, as soon as you know that you will be attending, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know how any of you there will be, so I can start to get an idea of how well supported this is going to be. I'll arrange ticket sales in the week or so and. if you'd like to book a table for a group of people coming together let me know that as well, also using [email protected]

That's all for now. I'll go and have a brew while the emails start flooding in!

20/05/2025

We may be a little thin on the ground tonight, with a few people away this week. Let's make the most of it anyway! Singers, musicians, poets, lemming jugglers all welcome! Even bagpipes!!
