As well as loving the movies and TV shows of the 80's and 90's, being a life-long Star Wars fan and absorbing the (relatively recent) influx of mainstream pop culture,
I have been a comic book reader for a long time.

As a way to reach the wider nerd community that might need my services, I have had these cards made.

If you, or someone else you know, is looking for a celebrant to offer a specialist service, then follow the link below.

Or, if you still want a more traditional service, with the reassurance that your celebrant "gets you", I am your people.

Proud to be the featured celebrant on the AOIC page today.
A fantastic organisation that not only offer an excellent directory of celebrants, but a source of great support to the celebrant community.

✨Today's featured celebrant is Adam Davies - Celebrant, conducting ceremonies in Salisbury and the surrounding Wiltshire areas.

“I am and always have been a people pleaser. As such, I have always gone out of my way to make sure other people are happy. It is one of my defining characteristics and one that makes for a great celebrant.

“I come from a background of writing and performing, so have a significant understanding of how the slightest nuance can affect a ceremony. So, if you want to go big and bold, we can make that happen, if you want to keep it quieter or more formal, that’s great too.

“I will work with you to create a ceremony that reflects your personal journey.”

🟣 Grief is a lonely experience. It's even more isolating if friends and colleagues, worried about saying 'the wrong thing,' simply stay away.

🔵 How could we do better? Well, here are some suggestions. They are all based on feedback from bereaved people, and taken from 'Listen.'

🟣 Don't avoid us. Please make contact. We don't have the energy to initiate contact, but we want to feel connected.

🔵 Say our dead person's name. Tell us your stories about them. Give us new glimpses of them.

🟣 It's awkward. We know. Don't let that get in the way. Be awkward and turn up. It's OK to say 'I don't know what to say.'

🔵 Don't give us platitudes, or try to cheer us up. Just be with us in our sorrow. That's how we feel right now, but company sometimes helps a bit. Try 'I'm sorry you're so sad' if you need to say something.

🟣 Don't ask us how we are. The world has changed so much we can't answer a question as big as that. Try 'How are you just now?' or 'Do you feel up to a chat today?' or 'It's good to see you.'

🔵 Offers of practical help can be welcome. Thanks for walking my dog, taking my bins out, bringing me a meal for my freezer, or calling from the supermarket to ask what I need.

🟣 When we're coming back to work or re-joining social activities, some of us would like support. Don't guess: ask us whether we want a card and flowers or just 'business as usual' on our first day back. Make it easier for us to get back into familiar routines.

🔵 Listen. Let us tell our stories, the sad ones and the happy ones. Sometimes, we want to connect to happy past events, other times we want to share our current sorrow.

🟣 Keep on checking in. Don't stop after a week, a month, a year. Grief has no time limits. Remember important dates if you can, but random contact is appreciated, too.

🙏🏽 Big thanks to my talented colleague Monica Lalanda for making this fabulous graphic from my book. Isn't it a great way to convey a message?

This is my Nan, Irene.

A service I recently delivered used the song "Goodnight Irene" in their memorial (Eric Clapton version, although there are many) and I was inspired to share my celebrant story.

Irene died in 2020 and as I have a background in performance, I was asked to deliver the eulogy.
We used the same song, sung by Jim Reeves, as we shared a moment of reflection to remember my Nan.

From my position at the front of the room, I was struck by the faces of my family as I delivered the service. Clearly saddened by our loss, with occasional smiles as the memories I was conveying, brought her to life in their minds.

Whilst the heaviness of loss burdened some, the relief of saying goodbye was visible on others and
I really responded to giving them that sense of peace.

I knew I could offer that to so many more people so, I trained to learn the finer details of the job and hone my natural skills and became a celebrant.

Now, on a regular basis, I get to offer that same relief to others as they say goodbye to their loved ones.

This is the legacy that my Nan has given me, and it's one I readily share with anyone in need of it.

🌎 WORLD CELEBRANTS WEEK - what a brilliant week we've had celebrating celebrants! Thank you to all who participated around the world... and a big thank you to Celebrants Collective for organising it all 💜

To round off the week, here's our two pennies worth on why you should consider a celebrant for your ceremony...

✨️The celebrant profession has grown at a staggering rate in recent years... and there's a reason! It is not a passing trend, but a response to an increasing demand for our major life milestones to be marked with meaning.

✨️Celebrants create and conduct a wide range of ceremonies, working with couples and families to plan beautiful ceremonial occasions whatever life event is being marked.

✨️It is the celebrant’s job to create a heartfelt and personalised ceremony, meeting with you beforehand to get to know you and listen to your wishes and requirements, then crafting a bespoke ceremony script.

✨️A good celebrant will listen to what you want, provide plenty of ideas, write a ceremony that honours your wishes, and work with you until it is perfect. And finally, they will conduct your ceremony with respect, professionalism and warmth.

✨️Finding the right celebrant is important, so ask some questions and go with your instinct when it says: ‘this is the celebrant for us’.

✨️At the AOIC, our code of practice means we're home to some of the most competent and highly skilled celebrants in the business. Members can be sure of as much support and guidance as they need throughout their career. While couples and families can be assured of a truly beautiful ceremony delivered with professional service.

✨️So here's to all you fabulous celebrants around the world doing such a wonderful job for the people you serve 💜

Just finished reading this gem of a book.
I have never read a book that made me cry so often, yet was utterly compelled to read more. For every tear it caused it raised a smile to match.

It is not just for those who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Everybody should read this book!

Death and dying are subjects many people find difficult to talk about, (this was also true of me before becoming a celebrant).
But every single meeting I have had with a bereaved family has ended with them saying how much they have enjoyed talking and reminiscing about their departed loved one.

Just sat, having a coffee with my pen and pad.
The couple next to me is showing a friend their sons wedding pics and telling her all about the day.
They're so happy and smiley, it's lovely to know how much joy is still being spread after the day itself.

Grief is a really personal experience and no two people will grieve in the same way. I have found this book to be incredibly insightful and a very interesting read as a celebrant.

Absolutely loved The Flash Fox photo booth feature.

Also, a great reminder not to get on the groom's mother's bad side.

(She's smiling, so I think we're good 😉)
