What is Sound Healing/Therapy and how does it work.

Part 2) The history of therapeutic sound.

Sound healing has been used around the world in ancient cultures since time immemorial. Music and humanity are inseparable. (Tibetan monks, indigenous Americans and ancient Greeks to name, but a few.)
Humanity lost touch with the sacred knowledge somewhere along the way.

The aboriginal people of Australia were the first culture known to have practised sound healing. The traditional instrument they have used for over 40,000 years is the didgeridoo.
Ancient Tibetan monks used singing bowls for spiritual ceremonies and for healing meditations. The first bowls dated back 6000 years. They were made from various metals. The sound vibrations from these bowls allow for deep relaxation of both brain hemispheres helping to relieve stress and release toxins from the body.

Ancient Greeks used sound healing to cure mental disorders, digestive problems and aid sleep.
Toning using vowel sounds was popular in ancient Egypt and was believed to restore the harmonic resonance to the body.

Ancient sages, Masters and enlightened communities, for thousands of years, have known and understood the significance and importance of sound as a sacred instrument of immense power and potential for healing and spiritual development.

The variety of sound instruments used by ancient civilisations was extremely varied and extensive. Sound tools from across the Earth have only, in recent years, become widely known about and available due to the Internet and global travel.
Much of the ancient wisdom from the past has only been rediscovered in the last few decades.

Therapeutic sound tools, create natural waves of unadulterated sound that both strengthen and feed our whole being. They balance and harmonise, and can ultimately act as an energetic bodybuilder and cleanser, as well as help towards spiritual unfoldment.
They allow old stagnant and unhealthy energies to be cleared away and transformed and replaced with new, clear and pure harmonic, vibrational energies . They restore our natural resonance, bringing us from a state of disharmony, manifesting as stress, tension and disease, to a state of balance, peace and harmony, which ultimately leads to ease and positive well-being.

What is Sound Healing/Therapy and how does it work

Part 1. Sound.

Sounds are all around us and we are completely surrounded by their vibrational forces. The movement or vibration of all matter emits sound. There are sounds which are audible to us and some which are inaudible. Scientists theorise that everything in the entire universe is in a state of vibration.

The ear is the organ of sound, hearing and balance. Soundwaves enter the ear and travel to the eardrum and inner ear. We hear a sound when the eardrum vibrates within a certain frequency range. Low pitched sounds are caused by low frequency waves, high frequency waves cause high-pitched sounds. The human ear cannot detect ultra high frequencies (UHF) or ultra low frequencies (ULF) but many other living creatures can.
Dolphins and whales, use vibration or sound to communicate over great distances. The medium of water is very effective for this. The fact that creatures can hear sounds we can’t shows the presence of sounds in our consciousness that we are unaware of. These sounds have the potential to create harmony or disharmony.
The quality of the sound can change due to such factors as quality, type and volume of the vibrations they admit. Also the medium in which the sound waves travel. (ie gases, liquids or solids etc.)

Sound is basically a wave form created by the vibration of an object. It is characterised by its loudness, frequency and speed. Sound is not only heard through the ear, but can also be felt in the physical body. If you stand in front of large speakers playing loud music, the vibrations emitted from them vibrate through the whole body. Deaf people can feel music through their bodies as a vibration.

Four ways that healing can help you.

1. Calm mind chatter.

Our lives are so busy and stressful we need to find ways to de-stress, let go and relax.
Our monkey minds are chattering all the time.
Many different instruments can be used in sound healing and sound baths to help calm the mind. Particularly good is a single Tibetan singing bowl which is a very calming sound. Focusing on the sound and listening, very carefully and mindfully is so….. relaxing.
Tuning forks are another great way of activating the relaxation response if played near to the ears. Allowing you to let go.

2. Release trapped emotions.

When we experience traumatic events, the associated emotions can become stored in our bodies, either at a cellular level or subconsciously, and we are usually not aware of them.
Ofter ,however, they guide our behaviour, much of the time with adverse effects on our relationships, wellness and health.
Sound healing can release the emotional pressure in a gentle way that can give a great sense of freedom and ease.
Playing two tibetan or crystal singing bowls together, which have a dissonant sound, help to release the blocked, struck and stagnant energy that often caused this kind of emotional pressure.

3. Reduce physical pain.

There are lots of people who experience physical pain in their body. It could be knees, elbows, fingers ,wrists, in fact any joints or muscle.

Wonderful, weighted tuning forks, of a particular frequency, played together can produce the dissonant energy needed to help release the pain.

4. Enable personal transformation.

Many of the instruments used in sound healing and sound baths can help you find the stillness and inner peace of your being.

Many cultures around the world have a shamanic element. Particularly when playing a handheld frame drum an altered state of consciousness may be achieved.

The Crystal singing Bowls can also assist you in achieving this altered state. Leaving you feeling at peace, filled with love and compassion for yourself and others. This is deeply healing.

When altered states of awareness are achieved it allows you to connect with your soul. When your soul is more present in your being, it bringing about a sense of wholeness.

Silences during the sessions allows for realisations that can be transformational.

Come and experience the beautiful, relaxing and healing sounds of the Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, drums, gong, rattles, tuning forks and chimes.

Sound healing has been widely used throughout the world for thousands of years. It's a form of vibrational medicine that helps to balance all aspects of your being - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. When you are out of balance, that's when aches, pains, illnesses and disease happen. So by fine-tuning your system with the frequencies of various instruments and our voice, we can restore balance and activate your body's natural healing mechanism.

A sound bath is a time for you to reconnect with your inner self, finding peace and tranquility.
