Just a reminder that this coming Friday, in time for a bit of summer fun, we are showing the classic film Mamma Mia from 2008. Its the story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the timeless ABBA (and the less timeless singing of Pierce Brosnan!) and featuring the sun-kissed beaches of Greece.

Starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried (and the aforementioned Pierce Brosnan), this is not officially a singalong version but with the subtitles switched on, no doubt everyone will want to join in…..and why not?

Showing on your doorstep at Saltford Hall on Friday 26th July at 7:30 pm. Drinks and ice creams will be available from 6:45pm.

Tickets are only £6 and can be purchased in advance via https://www.tickettailor.com/events/scaevents or just turn up and pay on the door.

Saltford Repair Cafe in the morning

Just a reminder that our next monthly Repair Café will be at Saltford Hall tomorrow (Saturday 20th July) from 11am – 1pm to repair your items. We are doing this in conjunction with Share & Repair who are a charity in Bath and North East Somerset. Their aim is to help local people save money and the planet through reduce, repair and reuse.

Please pop down with your item needing a helping hand or simply come along and say hello. As well as being able to get your broken items looked at, we will also be running our community café alongside offering our legendary Newton Farm bacon rolls, as well as other rolls, home-made cakes and Fairtrade tea/coffee.

If you're looking for something to do with your Saturdays, why not volunteer with us? We are always looking for repairers to give a hand at our Repair Cafes.

PERMISSIVE FOOTPATH DONATION APPEAL

Firstly our thanks to everyone last year for their generous donations which allowed us to raise the £3000 (including Gift Aid) needed to keep 4.5km of permissive paths open to the end of October 2024. In fact, you were so generous that we already have over £600 towards this year’s target. Thank you.

We know very many of you continue to enjoy your daily walks with and without dogs, taking advantage of the lovely countryside around us, including these wonderful permissive paths to the south and west of Saltford/east of Keynsham.

We are therefore sure that many of you will this year be happy to once again make a donation to keep these paths open for casual walkers, dog walkers, runners and horse riders. If we can’t raise the remaining £2400 by the end of October 2024 all the paths marked in green will close forever.

So, if you walk, run or ride a horse on any part of the 4.5km of permissive paths, then we strongly encourage you to support this appeal.

An average of £25, plus Gift Aid, is a small price to pay for continuing to enjoy over 4.5km of footpaths (shown in green).

If you wish to donate, then please either use the enclosed donation envelope inside SCAN or go to our website where a specific section can be found at https://saltfordhall.co.uk/permiss.html You can donate via BACS to 405240 and a/c no 00007636 with reference “PATH Surname”. If you do make a donation then I would strongly urge you to complete and return a gift aid form which can be obtained on our website athttps://saltfordhall.co.uk/Gift%20Aid%20Form%20-%20090822.pdf . This form allows you also to specify if you would like your donation used to support Saltford Community Hub/Library, Saltford Community Support Fund and/or the SCA itself. Forms can be emailed to [email protected]

Once again many thanks to all those who generously donated last year to keep these paths open.

Here's another anniversary, but this time 273rd !!

This Saturday, 13th July, marks the anniversary of the first recorded cricket match in Somerset held 'on a Saltford meadow' in 1751.

The first cricket match in Saltford was held ‘when the then Prince of Wales, accompanied by his eldest daughter Lady Augusta, on a visit to Bath travelled in a wherry by river to Saltford’, taken from the 1995 Charity / Testimonial Programme (see p.3 ) on the Somerset Cricket Museum‘s website https://somersetcricketmuseum.co.uk/saltford-first-recorded-cricket-match-in-somerset-1751/

Our thanks to Duncan Hounsell for providing the following photos taken at the centenary gala celebration event at Bath Central Library on 10th July. This marked 100 years of public libraries in the area.

The photos show Saltford community library volunteers who attended, plus a display showcasing Saltford Community Library.

Saltford Community Association, through your generosity to the Saltford Community Support Fund, is delighted to announce that we have for the second year agreed to provide financial support to Saltford School so that 10 children (whose families are in receipt of pupil premium) can attend after school clubs for the whole of next school year.

We also continue to use these funds to support our local Ukrainians, as well as providing funds when needed to Citizens Advice in Bath specifically to help Saltford residents. If you are in need of financial help then please contact them on 0808 278 7897.

Calling all Saltford residents over 55!

We are asking for just 10 minutes of your time to share your views in an important survey. The outcomes will help prioritise which services to improve for older people in the coming 5-10 years.

Age UK B&NES, backed by St John's Foundation, are supporting the Ageing Well Programme.

Step 1 is to assess what is being done well and to figure out what needs to be improved in the area.

Help add Saltford's perspectives and requirements to the review by clicking on the following link and answering the questions.

Your views will be appreciated.

The final weekend of this year's Saltford Festival has arrived and we have lots of events to look forward today, including Saltford Repair Cafe alongside a Saltford Heritage Display at Saltford Hall, the Saltford School Fair and the 70th anniversary concert by Avon Fire & Rescue Band - see details below.

Plenty to see at Saltford Hall on Saturday morning.

Plenty to see at Saltford Hall on Saturday morning.

SEG will be providing a 'History of Saltford' display at Saltford Hall during the Saltford Festival from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 15th June; entry is free. This will be alongside the Repair Cafe in the main hall.
In addition to our historic maps of Saltford display, this will also be one of those rare occasions when we display one of the oldest coins, from the Iron Age, found in Britain, the Saltford Carthaginian Coin (300-264 BC).
SCA's popular Community Cafe will be open too serving refreshments and, of course, their famous Newton Farm bacon rolls. So if you are in Saltford tomorrow, Saturday 15th, why not pop along, learn more about Saltford's history and enjoy some refreshments.
If you have a small appliance that needs to be repaired, bring that along and the Repair Cafe team will take a look and see if they can fix it. "Mend it, don't end it".
