Life is expensive and paying up front for things isn't always easy at the moment. Therefore - I'm introducing a deposit scheme for my workshop bookings.

Secure your place with a £15 deposit which will be non-refundable if you cancel your booking. Then you can pay the rest of the balance at any time you like up until 7 days before the workshop - in this case Friday 27th September.

Last weekend I spent a lovely day with a friend at picking locally grown flowers in a beautiful setting. Picking your own flowers is such a lovely thing to do - take a look at Rowes' website for their PYO dates this season.

We then used our flowers to try out flower hammering - a technique where a hammer is used to draw out all the natural pigments in the floral material onto fabric. My results were sadly less than impressive after my newly stamped dresses, left to dry in the sun, were caught in a rain shower before the dyes had taken 😬

We had so much fun doing it though - if you fancy trying flower hammering then follow the proper advice from an expert like to avoid mishaps!

A new date will be set and all current ticket holders will be fully refunded.

The third cocktail for the workshop is a dark and rich Bramble, with a bit of fizz and fresh berries.

Flower colours for this cocktail choices will be deep reds and purples which will create a dramatic arrangement.

Remember Sunday is the deadline for tickets!

Cocktail no. 2 is the FERN Mojito - basically a standard mojito with some elderflower and rosemary for a herbal twist. Also available as non-alcoholic.

This refreshing drink lends itself to classic and simple white and green florals with lots of foliage.

ANNOUNCEMENT

For the last 18 months I have been working with lovely Jenny at to learn about growing flowers and using British grown flowers in floristry. As you may have seen me share yesterday, Jenny has moved house and no longer has her flower farm so Thistledown Flowers as we have known it is no more 😔

HOWEVER - Jenny and her wonderful talents will not be lost from the industry as we have both secured a brand new flower patch at Sawdon to work together to grow as many of FERN's flowers as possible!

We'll be working on the patch from Autumn to Spring to get it ready for the next growing season so that we can bring you lots of beautiful British flower varieties grown within our area.

Keep your eyes peeled for the launch of next year's monthly flower subscriptions that will hopefully run from March until October.

I know I'm HUGELY excited and can't wait to get started!

The first of our cocktail offerings for the workshop at is the Mango Sunrise - a fruity and colourful drink full of sunshine and sweetness.

The Mango Sunrise is also available as non-alcoholic.

If you choose this as your first cocktail your flowers to use will be full of summer warmth in shades of red, orange and yellow to match the gradient of the cocktail

Come and enjoy a Friday evening of flowery fun while sipping some horticultural and herbaceous cocktails. The lovely Jack from has helped us create a special FERN menu for the event.

Your ticket price gains you a luscious array of British flowers and foliage to create your display with, a glass cocktail pitcher to use as a vase and TWO servings of your chosen cocktail or mocktail. One when you arrive and one when you've created your masterpiece!

All cocktails from the menu will be available to purchase on the evening if you would like to try any others - they will be charged at £9 each.

Yesterday I had the honour of creating a funeral tribute for a much loved father. The family requested scented herbs and greenery to dress the letters alongside a few of his tools that they had attached to show one of his great loves in life 🌿

*This tribute was made on a base of Oasis which I do not normally use in my work, but this was a special favour to help out the family.

At the weekend I spent an evening with lovely Jenny from helping her prep for a wedding and my job was to make this colourful summery flower crown.

Flower crowns are so much fun and you should definitely consider one for your wedding - when else do you get to wear beautiful flowers on your head!

I've had a few new followers recently and also National Florist Day is approaching so thought I'd do a little introduction :)

Hello! I'm Molly and I set up FERN Florist from my home in Scarborough. Here I am at the fern grower stand at Chelsea Flower Show - obviously had to have a photo! I qualified as a florist last year and have been building up my little business ever since. I love using British flowers wherever I can and am a huge fan of foliage and think it often gets overlooked in floristry!

I live with my partner James who does a lot of wonderful jobs for me that he definitely did not sign up for - from photographer to delivery driver to buttonhole tester 😂

My favourite flower is probably a dahlia and my favourite foliage is elaeagnes, and outside of the floristry world I love home decor magazines, jigsaws and charity shopping.

Come to my workshop on 7th June and you can tell me about your best charity shop find 👀 just kidding - but do come along and we'll have loads of fun!

National Florist Day is all about celebrating local florists and learning more about what we do. The industry is made up of hundreds of skilled, trained professionals who have spent years learning the trade, developing a personal style and perfecting technique. Working with perishable items and making sure they look their best is not an easy task but we are passionate about our work and what flowers can mean for people.
Supermarket flowers may be cheap and easy to come by but by spending a tiny bit more time and money you will get higher quality stems, more choice and chance for bespoke orders and a personal dedicated level of service. So next time you need some flowers, give your local florist a call 🌿

Chelsea Flower Show 2024 🌿

So yesterday I went on a floristry pilgrimage to Chelsea and spent the day trying to take in all the beautiful sights and amazing inspiration.

I'll be writing a full blog post about the day and all my personal highlights but for now here's one of my favourite images from the day taken of the World Child Cancer's nurturing garden by Giulio Giorgi. I loved the colour palette, the shapes, the planting choices - it reminded me slightly of the Nurture Landscapes garden from last year by Sarah Price which was my absolute favourite of 2023 🌿
