New Scarborough Town Council

In July 2024, following a Community Governance Review, we agreed to the creation of two new town councils within North Yorkshire: one for the currently unparished part of Harrogate and one for the currently unparished part of Scarborough.

In May, elections will be held to elect councillors to these new town councils.

We are holding an online meeting on the 5th March at 5pm for anyone who is interested in becoming a candidate or wants to know more about the new town council. See attached poster and feel free to share.

Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment survey – closes 2nd March

We’re currently refreshing the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment which is a statutory duty of each Health and Wellbeing Board and is essentially a statement of need for pharmaceutical services for the population of North Yorkshire. So we’re looking at things like locations of pharmacies, the services they deliver and whether there are any gaps in provision.

As part of this process, we have put a survey out to the public to seek their views on the pharmaceutical services they access. Our public survey is live and is open until the 2nd March. It only takes around 10 minutes to complete so it would be great if you would be able to promote within your networks, and complete if you’re residents of NY or York!

Here is the link for the survey and a poster that has been produced:

Coroner's appeal to locate Scarborough woman’s next of kin 👇

Some sad news but we’re hoping someone may know this woman's family.

The Coroner’s Office have asked for our help to locate the next of kin of a Mrs Patricia Woodgate.

Patricia, who was aged 77 was sadly found dead in Scarborough. Her death is not thought to be suspicious.
We believe she may have relatives in Scotland.

If you have any information that would help the Coroner to locate any members of Patricia’s family please email [email protected]

Thank you for your help.

Update from the village hall volunteers

As the community are aware the village hall is not part of the council or parish council. Land donated to the community in 1935 has been added to over the years with land swaps and donations, the village hall built in 1965 by local people. The great work continued with the playground and tennis courts built in 1985.

The Village Hall is managed by volunteer Trustees and Committee and is a registered charity, No 523328, it's not about profit, it's about providing facilities for the community.

Just after Covid, we carried out a survey, held an Open Event to find out what people wanted from the hall.

The requests were for the tennis courts and MUGA for health and wellbeing and also for somewhere the children could play football and basketball. The Youth Club are really looking forward to being able to use the facility!

To achieve this we have been raising funds to carry out the work.
This has resulted in the following events:

Cloughton Open Gardens
Burniston Rocks Music Festival
Children's Talent Competition etc

In addition we have applied for over 50 grants, had generous donations from local people and lots of people have given their time and energy to make all this happen.

The result is we can now afford to carry out and complete the work.

Thank you to everyone - the start date is weather dependent as vehicles will need to cross the field, but we are hoping it will start in March.
