Advice as we hit that ‘wedding planning’ time of year.

It all features around my ‘your day, your way’ mantra. Don’t be afraid to give feedback to planners and venues on your timeline, take expert advice but at the end of the day it’s what you want to do. Take time to enjoy it and pick suppliers that fit with your vision.

I will be sharing plenty more tips and advice this month, let me know if this is helpful.

I’m popping up from under a mountain of selection boxes in that post Christmas daze to say I will be at the open day next Sunday the 4th January 2026 (?!) from 1pm - 4pm.

Come and say hi, see the venue, meet the team and you can even see at the same time. A perfect way to start wedding planning in 2026.

See you all in a week. It’s been nice having time off but I’m definitely excited for all the wedding chat in January.

Get in touch with Charlton Hall or Doxford Barns to register, it’s free to attend.

Here are some photos of mine from a Charlton Hall wedding in summer 2025. Suppliers;

Today’s prompt is a tricky one - ‘Analogue’ now I don’t shoot any film at weddings (currently) and I can’t see that changing any time soon. The way I shoot; anticipating and shooting through moments, often changing compositions several times to get the most impact and constantly looking for storytelling elements mean I can shoot close to 10k photos at a wedding. That’s just not possible with film, the speed of film cameras and of course the cost of film just wouldn’t work for my business! I also have no real experience with film and would be very scared of messing up any photos.

That said, I do find myself wandering about our local vinyl store .obi and I almost asked for a record player for Christmas. I see the rise of film photography, vinyl and ‘retro’ real things and asking why? Is it a fight against the rise of A.I, a nostalgic thing or just (and I hope) a love for something real again…

I hope that longing for something genuine continues into the style of photography couples love and they keep booking me for those non forced and fake photos, over processed images and just following trends!

I will always stray true to your personality, just in a digital way. Although I have a beard and I do love a lumberjack shacket so I would definitely fit in with a film camera and vinyl.

One more day for the advent challenge, thanks to for organising and today’s sponsor

I have just published my ‘best of 2025’ blog post. It’s a nice way to end the year but also fits nicely with today’s theme of ‘The Hardest Part’

I could have talked about the hardest part of wedding planning, or the hardest part of running a small business, being self employed, or any number of things really. But to give you an insight into my brain and business and fit today’s topic, as well as promoting my new blog post I have decided to talk about image curation.

After photographing wedding for 11 years and over 300 wedding (roughly) I know how I shoot, the images I look for and what I do. But every year I need to attract 35 couples who also understand that, who, from a few quick glances on Instagram or my website want to get in touch and chat more. It’s a big ask from a few photos to show how I shoot and what you as a couple can expect. So choosing my ‘best of’ for the year is very hard (at least for me). Taking it from over 20,000 delivered images to just 200 (this year).

I choose the photos that I love, when I flick through a gallery what stands out to me, but I’m also considering what impact that photo will have on future couples who might want to book me.

So if you want to see the images I loved most from this year, head over to my blog now and take a look. Let me know if any jump out at you.

I have a few more days of posting and then I will be taking the week to celebrate the year and enjoy some rest and family time away from my phone and can’t wait.

Today’s prompt is ‘surprises’ after a little thinking I decided to talk about the surprises the couple get when looking through their full gallery.

On a wedding day, you as a couple spend so much time doing ‘things’ from actually getting married to trying to chat to all your guests, a first dance, cutting a cake, everyone wants a piece of you. So much happens outside of all of this and I love capturing the guests, the smaller moments and the stuff you as a couple don’t see. These surprises when you finally look through your full gallery are what my couples tell me excited them the most. Seeing everyone having a great time enjoying the day they planned is what they hire me for.

They love the nice portraits and family photos but it’s the ‘surprise’ photos that bring the most joy!

One photo one story is todays prompt for the and this photo from earlier this year jumped out to me.

It’s one of my favourites purely as it highlights the way I work from before the wedding to on the day. Before the wedding I have a final meeting with all my couples. We discuss everything from timings to locations but most importantly we chat about family, friends and the little things that make your day unique.

In this example the couple had told me that they had a family member playing the trumpet for them to walk down the aisle. Towards the end of the ceremony I saw him getting ready and planned my way of getting him in and the couple as they walked down the aisle. I still wanted the more standard couple cheering as they are announced but as soon as I had that I ran (literally) behind the trumpet player and captured the couple with the trumpet in the foreground.

This photo sums up my efforts in preparation before the wedding, planning on the day and moving around to tell the story and the way I like to creatively compose the final edited photo.

Any questions on the way I work let me know.

Today’s prompt is advice. This feels like the best time to promote my wedding planning podcast

A weekly (ish) podcast covering all the wedding topics and life as a wedding supplier in the UK. We have nearly 70 episodes live covering everything from setting budgets to finding suppliers, special guests and random stories from real weddings. I co-host with the wonderful

Here is a quick tip taken from our next episode… if you are looking for a photographer then a lot will be doing ‘best of’ blog posts, these give a great insight into the types of images they love to capture and you get to see recent work all in one place. So definitely worth a trip to any photographers blog who you might be looking at to photograph your wedding. Not all photographers do this but it’s popular. Mine will be up very soon 👀

Today’s is sillyness which I love seeing at weddings. Whether it’s impromptu tie limbo on a dance floor, space hopper action, a Photo Booth or the classic napkin face! It’s fun and I always try to capture you and your guests being silly!

There is always that one guest….
