Our belated entry for this week is the supremely talented Eminem with his album The Marshall Mathers LP 🎤

We are quite confident that pretty much everyone in the world has heard of Eminem and that most people will be familiar with his body of work. And rightly so, as he is one of the greatest rappers in the history of Hip-Hop, maybe even the best of all time, tell us what you think on that below.

We want to focus on The Marshall Mathers LP, which was his third studio album released on 23rd May 2000 by Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. Synonymous with Dr. Dre's incredible production throughout the album, combined with the lyrical prowess that Eminem possesses and with some big guest appearances, this album is an all-time great in our opinion.

And don't just take our word for it, Rolling Stone named it the best album of 2000 and it often appears in best album of all time lists from publications from all around the world. It has sold over 25 million copies worldwide, certifying it as 11x platinum and diamond and was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards in the year of its release, winning one for best Hip-Hop album.

With huge hit singles including "The Real Slim Shady", "Stan", "The Way I Am" and "I'm Back" among others, it's clear to see why it was such a success.

Lyrically and sonically unlike anything that had come before it, this was a much more introspective album than its predecessor "The Slim Shady LP" and is widely regarded as Eminem's best work to date, whilst also causing a lot of controversy with some of the topics the content touched upon.

We love it and will always be big fans of Eminem, what's your thoughts?

Better late than never, yesterday's act is Dafuniks 🎶

A fantastic Hip-Hop, Breakbeat, Soul and Funk group from Denmark. They're the finest export from Denmark since Peter Schmeichel or bacon. This group have produced some of the best modern Hip-Hop we've heard. Their beats are packed full of soul, and they never fail to excite with their music.

Founded in 2008 in Copenhagen, Dafuniks released their first album "Enter The Sideshow Groove" in 2012.

The group is made up of Justmike, PrinceJuice, DJ Nyber, Christian Jesperson, Thomas Cox and Tue Damskov, as well as rapper's Elias and Joseph Agami. They also regularly have guest features on their tracks, often other rap artists or vocalists 🎤

They've released plenty of EP's and mixes for various artists around the world 🌎

They released their second studio album in 2015 called "Past Present Future" which is one of the most played albums at Fun-Da-Mental HQ. It's an incredible piece of work from beginning to end. It sounds both completely new and like something from an era gone by.

They have a new EP out this year called Brakes On, and we are hoping this means another studio album will follow 🙌

Please go and check them out, they're a fantastic group. Stream them on Spotify or Apple, and show some support in all the usual places you listen to music. We would love to get them to an event of ours in the future if the opportunity arises as we are massive fans. Watch this space ✌️

It was a great night yesterday at Pembury Fireworks display. What a great turnout. The weather held off nicely, and the fireworks were fantastic. The Fun-Da-Mental team were running the bar, and our hot beverages were going down a treat, as were the beers and ales supplied by local brewery

A massive thanks to the for organising the event. We look forward to doing it again next year.

Today's album is Legend by Bob Marley & The Wailers 🎶

This is a greatest hits compilation that was first released in May 1984 on Island Records. All the tracks are in their original vinyl format, and it is the best selling reggae album of all time with over 12 million sold in the USA and over 3.3 million sold here in the UK 🙌

Bob Marley is such an influential character, his music touching the souks of so many that have listened to him. Always striving to add real depth and meaning to his music. You would be hard pressed to find a corner of the world that hasn't been influenced by his extensive back catalogue of incredible tunes.

From "No Woman No Cry" to "Three Little Birds" from "Is This Love" to "Buffalo Soldier" and from "Redemption Song" to "Get Up Stand Up" and so many more massive tunes, this really is some album 👏

However, it has drawn criticism over the years as being purposely marketed at the suburban white demographic by intentionally leaving out some of Marleys' more politically driven tracks. But this aside, it has plenty of unforgettable tracks that are extremely well written and performed. And songs such as Redemption Song still certainly carry some weight with regards to Markeys' political viewpoint.

If by some miracle you've not heard this absolute masterpiece of an album, we implore you to do so. It's astoundingly good 💚💛❤️

Today's classic album is none other than Rumours by Fleetwood Mac 🎶

And what an incredible album it is. It was the 11th studio album for the British-American rock band and one that is recognised as an all-time great. Released on 4th February 1977 by Warner Bros Records.

Rumours was recorded during some tumultuous times for many of the bands members. There were several break-ups within the band and heavy drug use, which resulted in many of the themes and directions of this album moving from the original concepts they had set out to record. But every cloud has a silver lining, and it proved to be the catalyst for writing and recording some incredible songs 🎵

Rumours became the bands first number 1 album in the UK, whilst also topping the billboard charts in the USA and was an instant commercial success, selling over 10 million copies worldwide within just a month 👏

They released "Dreams," "Go Your Own Way," "Don't Stop," and "You Make Loving Fun" as the lead singles from the album. And of course they also got a huge response from "The Chain" which has one of the best and most recognisable riffs within rock music, and was later used on the soundtrack for Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, exposing the band to a whole new audience.

It received critical acclaim around the world, winning them Album of the Year at the 1978 Grammy Awards, and received diamond certifications in multiple countries. In 2003 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame and is often recognised as one of the greatest albums ever, coming number 7 on Rolling Stones list of 500 greatest albums of all time 🙌

It's a true classic. If you've never heard it, go and treat yourself. It's fantastic from start to finish👌

Another classic today on with the timeless Aretha Now by Aretha Franklin 🎶

She oozes soul, her voice is astoundingly beautiful, and she has to be in any list of the greatest vocalists of all time. No one hits notes quite like Aretha, with her blend of gospel and soul defining an era.

This timeless album, which is a personal favourite at Fun-Da-Mental HQ, is astonishingly Aretha's 13th studio album and was released in 1968 on Atlantic Records.

With hit singles "I Say A Little Prayer," "Think/You Send Me," and "I Can't See Myself Leaving You" all having massive chart success, it's easy to see why this album is still so popular today.

The album went gold on both sides of the pond and sold more than a million copies in America alone. It was later re-issued on CD format in 1993, and again got very good figures.

We could have chosen any number of Aretha albums for our list of definitive albums that should be in everyones collection, but this one really hits in our opinion. If you by some miracle don't know it, give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed.

A true icon in the music scene, with a legacy that will stand the test of time for generations to come 🙌

16/10/2023

This week's feature on is probably the most refreshing and genius to date. It's none other than Ren. A man whose back story is as incredible as the music that has come from it 🎶

Originally from Anglesey in Wales, but these days hailing from Brighton, Ren is quite the anomaly. Aside from being one of the most gifted and talented musicians of a generation, he is also completely independent 👏

Ren's music is thought-provoking, awe-inspiring, dark, humorous, and completely like no one else. He has become one of the most watched artists of the last 12 months and has done so off the back of particularly turbulent times regarding his health. Ren was misdiagnosed for the best part of a decade, leaving him with autoimmune problems and rendering much of his 20's bed ridden. He was later diagnosed with lyme disease and is currently undergoing treatment in Canada.

Like many others, we first discovered this musical prodigy after the release of his epic and theatrical "Hi Ren" which delves into the juxtaposition of the voice in your head that tells you you're not enough, versus the side of us that's striving for better. A story of the balance of light and dark within us all. This track isn't merely music. It transcends and is a conceptual piece of art in its own right.

From there, we have delved into everything he has ever released, and wow, it's just phenomenal. He is a multi instrumentalist, singer, rapper, producer, and incredible storyteller. We strongly suggest checking out the trilogy of "Jenny's Tale," "Screech's Tale," and "Violets Tale" in that order. Another must is the Money Game trilogy, just inspiring and such a brilliantly crafted piece of work.

Ren has just released his new album, "Sick Boi," completely independently. This is a Hip-Hop album, with some seriously clever wordplay, impeccable flows, and great use of cadence. The album jolts into different directions and grabs your attention. We urge you to give it a listen and go grab a copy as this has a serious chance of making number 1 this week. What an achievement that would be 🙌

Our next entry on for our list of classic albums of all time is the fantastic "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette 🎶

Released on 13th June, 1995 through the Maverick record label. It was the first of her albums to be released worldwide. It marked a huge stylistic change from any of her previous work and was a rip-roaring success 🔥

It topped the chart in 13 countries and sold over 33 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. Alanis became the first Canadian to achieve a double diamond selling album 💎

With its themes of angst and love, over an alternative rock, post grunge, and pop rock sound with very clever lyrical content, Alanis had cemented herself as a truly influential songwriter and artist 🤘

It was nominated for 9 grammys, winning 5 of them, including best album 👏

With hit singles "Ironic", "Hand In My Pocket", "Head Over Feet", and the massive f**k you single "You Oughta Know" it's easy to see why this became such a huge success.

A great album that has stood the test of time and still sounds incredible now 👊

Next up on is the absolutely incredible Dutty Moonshine Big Band 🎶

The brainchild of DJ Michael Rack aka Dutty Moonshine, they are a 14 piece Big Band from Bristol, that fuse oldskool 1930's jazz and swing elements with heavy uk bassline music, fronted by Hip-Hop and Grime MC's.

Of all the live shows we have seen, these guys are just next level with their energy and party starting anthems. It's damn near impossible not to enjoy one of their sets and to not dance until you feel like you're going to drop. They're explosive on stage and have to be seen to be believed.

Following on from the success of their second album, City Of Sin, they have a brand new album out, called Villain. This is their 3rd studio album, and oh boy, does it pack a punch 👊

If you haven't already, we implore you to go and give it a listen, it's fantastic. With some great guest features including Greg Blackman, MC Pean, and Crime Hawk, to name a few, each song on the album sounds like a stand-out single of its own accord.

They have been pretty huge on the festival circuit for a while now and are firm crowd favourites and regular performers at Boomtown festival, amongst others. And it's easy to see why. Just an incredible band, so give them a follow, download their back catalogue, and grab yourself a ticket to one of their upcoming shows this winter as they embark on a nationwide tour. You will not regret it!! ✌️

So today's classic album is Nevermind by Nirvana 🤘

This was the second studio release from the band and was the first to feature drummer Dave Grohl 🥁 It came out on 24th September 1991 and was an incredible success.

It was certainly a groundbreaking album for the band, bringing grunge and alternative rock to the mainstream and cementing their place as the iconic rock band of the 90's. Heralded as the band to end what was dubbed "Hair Metal" music, and deliver some much needed substance that sparked a revival of interest in punk music amongst the youth of the time 🎸

Kurt Cobain's clever use of lyrics touch on an array of subjects, that added some much needed sensitivity to rock and proved you could have a hard hitting sound whilst highlighting topics such as anti-sexism, love and anti-establishment rhetoric. All this led to Cobain being called the voice of his generation 🎤

With hit singles "Smells Like Teen Spirit" "Lithium" and "Come As You Are" amongst others, it's no surprise that this album hit the way it did.

It sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time, and during its release was selling up to 300,000 copies a week. Staggering numbers 🔥

It is often included in lists of the greatest albums of all time, and we completely agree with that notion. Timeless, well written, and hard-hitting. What's not to like? A definitive classic 🎶

If you haven't heard it, give it a try

Our next choice on is one of our absolute favourite artists, The Undercover Hippy 🎶

An outrageously good band, who blend ska beats with acoustic folk-hop and elements of reggae. Billy Rowan, aka The Undercover Hippy, has been smashing it on the festival circuit since 2008. Originally as a solo artist, but now with a full band of incredible musicians behind him.

The thing that draws you into this troupe of skilled musicians, besides the fun and energetic sound they produce, is the clever and funny, often politically driven lyrics, that leave you with much more to ponder than just the set you have witnessed. Often poignantly commenting on the status of the systems we find ourselves apart of whilst still keeping their sense of humour and fun.

One thing for sure is that their live shows are just magical. We've had the pleasure of seeing them multiple times, and each time, you walk away with a beaming smile and legs that ache from so much dancing.

They have some fantastic tracks, such as "Life's Good", "Last Chance To Dance", "Boyfriend", "One Heart One Life", "Rise And Fall" and one of my personal favourites "Borders".

You can find their back catalogue of work on Spotify and other streaming sites, and they're just about to start a winter tour as well. We highly recommend grabbing a ticket if you can. No doubt they will be out hitting up the festivals next summer too, and believe us, they are well worth checking out.

Our next album to make our list of definitive albums that should be in everyone's list is the outstanding solo album from Lauryn Hill, The Miseduction Of Lauryn Hill 🎶

Released on 25th August 1998, this was the singer and rapper's only solo album. This album is a blend of Neo Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop & Reggae, and boy, is it good! 😎

Her lyrics touch on some poignant topics, including her pregnancy with her son Zion, love, religion, and the turmoil within her previous band, The Fugees, with whom she had achieved mass global success.

Lauryn's debut album was among the most acclaimed that year, and it see her bag 10 nominations at The Grammy Awards, of which she won 5, making her the first woman to achieve such a feat in one night 🙌

Since it's release, the album has been ranked in various best-album lists such as the Rolling Stone 500, with many critics regarding it as one of the definitive albums of the 90's and we would have to agree with that. It helped catapult her to the forefront of global attention within the music industry as a solo singer and rapper 🎤

With hit singles such as "Doo W*p (That Thing)" "Ex-Factor" and "Everything is Everything" plus the incredibly written ode to her son "Zion" amongst other absolute gems 💎 its clear to see why it was so impactful.

For those too young to remember this album, give it a listen. It stands the test of time and seems both as fresh and soulful as ever. It's a beautifully made album from start to finish and is up there at the pinnacle of R&B 🎙

Next up on is the sublime Samantics 🎶

This one man show extravaganza is one of the finest acts we have come across in recent years. He is a phenomenal wordsmith who raps over the ukulele and other instruments that he plays, whilst using a loop station to create layers and build a track. Tackling heavy hitting subjects such as mental health, depression, the state of the world, and other hot topics, Samantics hits you right in the feels with his clever, witty raps.

His incredible wordplay and the passion he pours into every song make him an unbelievable talent who is built for live shows. We've had the joy of having him perform for us at our event, Spring into Summer back in April, and he wowed everyone there. Someone who's live shows translate even better than his recorded music, which is saying something as his recorded tunes are great.

Songs such as Smile All The Time, Don't Be A Di****ad and the superbly written lovesong True Love, are just some of the abundance of good tracks he has at his disposal.

A festival favourite, an impressive writer and rapper, and an all round nice guy. If you haven't already, go and check out Samantics, you will not be disappointed ✌️

Today's definitive album choice on is Demon Days by Gorillaz 🎶

Demon Days was the second album from the group fronted by cartoon characters 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs. The duo of Damon Albarn from Blur and illustrator Jamie Hewlett are the minds behind this concept, and it's so unique 👌

The album was released on 11th May 2005 in Japan, and then on the 23rd May for the UK and USA. It hit number one in the UK album chart, and number 6 on the US billboard 200, and was later certified 6 times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the USA.

And what an incredible piece of work it is. With multiple guest appearances, as is often synonymous with Gorillaz work. From De La Soul, Neneh Cherry, Roots Manuva, MF Doom, Shaun Ryder and Bo**ie Brown from The Pharcyde to name but a few.

What's so original about the concept of Gorillaz is the animated characters created by Jamie Hewlett and his company Flesh Eating Zombies. It brings a whole new dynamic to the table, allowing you to follow the story arcs of the characters via various online content through the bands website.

The other thing so refreshing about Gorillaz is the music itself. They mix so many genres together effortlessly on Demon Days, resulting in a melting pot of flavours for your ears that should stand the test of time in the same way classic albums like Dark Side Of The Moon have done. It truly is a masterpiece ✨️

With hit singles Feel Good Inc., Dare, Dirty Harry, El maṅana and Kids With Guns, you always knew this would be a defining moment within the bands discography. But further than that, each and every tune on the album really delivers a punch. They could easily have had hit singles with other tracks on the album, such is its depth.

Damon Albarn is a powerhouse in the studio, and is great at picking out new artists that would combine well, to keep the feel and direction of Gorillaz feeling very current. The fact so many respected artists from an array of genres around the world jump at the chance to get in the studio with him says it all.

This week on MUSIC MONDAYS 🎶 is an incredible band who we have had the pleasure of seeing live multiple times. None other than Code: Marla 🖤

Code: Marla are such an interesting and talented act, fusing Nu-Metal with elements of Hip-Hop, Dub, Jungle and other varying electronic genres to create a dark and hypnotising sound that is both beautiful, raucous and in your face. Combining all these elements in the way they do gives a live show like nothing else we've seen. Packed full of energy, these guys get everyone moshing and headbanging along with them.

Started by bass player CJ, who originally set out on a solo project, Code: Marla have evolved their sound by growing the bands members to its current line up of 6, each member bringing their own dynamic and skillset to the table.

CJ is a very talented guy, who plays basslines that really capture the sound of what this band are about 🎸

Front man Billy leaves every ounce of himself out on the stage, with his passion, vigour, and animated crowd interactions matching his superb lyrical content and rapping flow 🎤

Lead singer Sonia has phenomenal power and control in her vocal range, which adds a haunting layer to their tracks that really works. Her voice is incredible🎙

Rick and Fraser play guitar and coupled together really get the high octane Nu-Metal riffs absolutely nailed. It's this component that works so well with the more electronic sounds and Hip-Hop elements, as something unique that we hadn't heard before 🎸

And this is all held together by drummer Alaistar, who controls the engine room ever so well. His timing and skill is evident for all to witness 🥁

An absolute must watch at any chance you get. The crowds always leave their gigs feeling wowed, and it's clear to see why. Check them out, they're music is available on Spotify, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. You won't be disappointed 🔥

Our next choice for Throwback Thursday's greatest albums of all time is none other than The Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd.

This is such a complete work of genius. We believe this to be one of the finest albums ever created.

Released on 1st March 1973, this was the bands 8th studio album. It was developed during live performances before recording began. It was a concept album, that tackled mental health issues that had plagued former band member Syd Barrett and touched on a host of other problems that were evident in the world around them, such as conflict, greed, death and time.

The album cover is now as recognised as any in the world, and the sound of the album is bold and ahead of its time. Sonically, it's a masterpiece.

It's one of the most critically acclaimed albums in history, and rightly so. We absolutely love it. It's another of the albums that never gets boring no matter how many times you hear it, such is the clever use of varying sounds. On discovery of this album, it's easy to see why it is so often voted in lists of the greatest albums ever made.

The Dark Side Of The Moon is 14 times platinum and was one of the stand-out albums of a generation.

If you haven't listened to this album from beginning to end, in it's entirety, we implore you to do so. A true work of skill, that will transport you to a different place.

Next up on Music Mondays 🎶 The Faraone Bros. 🎧

These boys are a pair of extremely talented DJs and producers whose catalogue of tunes span a wide range of genres. From House music to Disco, Garage to DnB. They pull from varied influences across the dance spectrum and beyond.

They have an energy that is unmatched and vibe off of each other in a way that is infectious for the watching crowd. It's impossible to watch these two and not dance.

We've had the pleasure of having them perform for us on 3 occasions so far, each time bringing the fire 🔥 they are a real favourite of ours at Fun-Da-Mental HQ.

Having recently delved into their huge back catalogue of unreleased tunes that they have produced, it's fair to say the future is bright for The Faraone Bros. They have their finger on the pulse and always take the music in a direction that was unexpected, making it sound very fresh and exciting.

You can check them out on Soundcloud and hopefully get the chance to witness the magic they bring in person at one of our upcoming events. Definitely one to keep an eye on. We predict big things for this charismatic duo. You heard it here first 😎
