Please please support small businesses, here is today’s thoughts, heart on sleeve time.

This week has been a tough one for us at HQ, not going to lie but as a small business the continued knock backs or sorry we went for another caterer hits quite hard or even not getting a response despite the emails or calls - really hurts.

Every enquiry has a personalised response from us, be that email or phone call. We send out our *main* menu which has our most frequently requested options but always always offer to chat in more detail.
We also offer to design a menu for your budget so you would hope this covers most bases.
So much time and effort goes into each enquiry no matter how big or small.

This week we lost out on a big booking for next year, very local and two sets of food throughout the day. This booking would have done so much for our small family business and makes the difference in us keeping going.
We lost out to another company simply because they have an alcohol licence so can offer a bar as well.
This isn’t the first time that for *ease* we have been turned down.

So my question is - what are we doing wrong? Why aren’t clients feeling that we can support their event fully and provide a real one to one friendly and dedicated personal service.
How do I fill my diary because right now it’s pretty much empty, I get so many recommendations but they just aren’t converting.

Then I ask is it my pricing? Is my menu professional enough? Am I not varied enough? Do I need to get a license?

I’m asking you all to stop and consider the small family run businesses over those bigger well known ones, we might not be the easy option but you do get a personalised service and very often you are our only booking so get our undivided attention and that booking is the difference between us surviving or not.

Hi All!
So we have a few new followers and likes I thought I would lshare a bit more about us.

We were created in August 2019 after I got made redundant from my office role. My true passion has always been for entertaining and to hear the buzz as people enjoy my food. So I thought what better time than a Pandemic to start my business!

Supported strongly by my husband, family and friends we have spent the last 4 years evolving, creating and listening to our clients to shape Black Cat into what we are now.

Our mission from the outset has been to bring you the best local produce we can find, for me to personally make the cakes and savouries and to combine those into colourful, tasty, visually appealing grazing tables and platters alongside more traditional buffets and afternoon teas suitable for all occasion's. No event is too small, we work with corporates to provide lunch, weddings, parties, social events, birthdays, the list is endless.

We try where possible to use only recyclable, eco friendly packaging and by using local produce we are also doing our little bit for the environment. We have a 5 star hygiene rating and also Food Hygiene Level 3, so rest assured we are upto date with all the requirements for a UK food business.

We will always work with you to design the perfect food for any event be it for 2 people or 200 people and with a great range of contacts we can often connect you with some other amazing small businesses.

Black Cat Catering is a family-owned small business based in Shaftesbury, Dorset. We offer a wide range of bespoke catering services, including luxury graze boxes, grazing tables, beautiful buffets, and afternoon tea.

Our catering services are suitable for various occasions such as corporate lunches, birthday celebrations, bridal showers, baby showers, and weddings.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of catering for Dorset National Landscape Partnership who held a workshop at Bere Marsh Farm

What a day it turned out to be, absolutely beautiful.

They chose our simple buffet plus potato salad and slaw.

fans and followers I need your help.

I am organising an event for the RAFAC cadets that my son attends in Sherborne for 2025

We need recommendations of venues without a bar, seated 100/120, kitchen onsite and happy to have our caterer (not me!) and near Sherborne.
Must have tables, chairs, ideally crockery and glasses as we have a tight budget.
Parking

We also need potentially a DJ/Entertainment to help us celebrate a fabulous year.

An early start in the kitchen this morning, afternoon tea for a very special Mum and family at a difficult time.

Homemade scones, lemon drizzle cake, raspberry and white chocolate cake, carrot cake, clotted cream, strawberry’s and blueberries.

Then let’s not forget the egg mayo, ham and cheese sandwiches, sausage rolls and mini quiches.
