What Is A Celebrant? - Written By Gwyn Davies

Celebrant, Celebrant, what is it you do?
I’m a little old fashioned and haven’t a clue.
Celebrant, Celebrant, what is it you do?
Are you religious, or is that taboo?

Who is your target, where is your goal?
I’m a little confused, as to what is your role.
Are you religious, or the atheist sort,
I’m a bit in the dark and need to be taught.

Well let me enlighten, I’ll try and explain,
I’m there as a person to try ease the pain.
It isn’t about me or any belief,
I try help the loved ones to help with their grief.

There’s more than two options, to help people through,
So I’ll try and explain, what us Celebrants do.
We take an approach, with a personal touch,
For loved ones in need of the help for a crutch.

Some aren’t religious, but still want a prayer,
Or even a hymn, and we’re happy to share.
It just doesn’t matter what our belief,
We’ll use an approach, that helps bring relief.

So as you can see, it’s not black or white,
We offer a service that we just try make right.
Right for the person, whose life has passed on,
And try help those hurting, as their loved one has gone.

We tick all the boxes, some people say,
We try make it special, in our own unique way.
Times are a changing, changing so fast,
We must try move forward, not stuck in the past.

To help and bring comfort, is our real aim,
Each service is special, no two the same
Happy to meet to discuss what we do
At a time or a place chosen by you.

Although more and more people are choosing to have intimate weddings, the majority are still on the larger scale. Have you ever asked someone what they were up to this weekend, only for them to reply by rolling their eyes and saying ''I have to go to a wedding''...As you know, I myself had a tiny wedding but I've been to intimate weddings and even secret weddings as a guest. They're so much more memorable. I've been to lots of big weddings and all I seem to remember is thinking, 'when is the food going to arrive?'... Why not have an intimate wedding and leave an impression on your guests.

You may have found your dream venue but then realise that there's not enough space for all your guests. When I got married, we found the perfect venue for us and luckily, it catered for just the numbers we needed (all 6 of us!). It would have been a massive disappointment if we had to search for another venue when we'd found one that was so perfect for us. The photo here is of Battel Hall, Leeds Castle in Kent. They hold intimate weddings here for up to 14 guests. How romantic and wonderful does this look!

With an intimate wedding, you won't have to spend most of your time checking in with your guests to make sure everyone is okay. It's much more about you as a couple and spending those precious moments together

This is one that does boggle my brain a little. Why should one of the most important days of your life be stressful? Okay, a little bit of stress is okay! We can deal with a little but, the amount of times I've seen couples looking completely stressed and overwhelmed by everything. It's a lot! You should be enjoying the process, not losing sleep over it and constantly worrying.about it. Just another reason to have an intimate wedding!

So let's get one thing straight to start off with. I'm not against big weddings. Big weddings can be fabulous and full of fun...I'm just much more passionate about the smaller weddings. This is why Unique Ceremonies, Your Way only do wedding blessings for up to 50 guests. Here's my number one reason for having that intimate wedding. There's lots more to come!

It was World Mental Health Day yesterday. Did you have a think about the things that are getting you worried and what you can do to help de-stress? Weddings can be one of the most stressful events in our lives. Having an intimate wedding takes away a lot of the worries we have and focuses more on the couple, rather than everyone else. If you are someone who is suffering, please know that you are not alone and that there is help out there. We never used to talk about our mental health but now, thankfully we do. I like to think I do something, even if it's small to help animals all over. When I used to work in an office, I would feel really excited when my out of office when on because that officially meant the start of my holiday. Now that I love my job, I don't feel that same sense of excitement but, I'm of course looking forward to exploring somewhere different for a few days and forcing myself to switch off. 10 years together, 6 years married, and what a wonderful 10 years it's been. My Husband-the most selfless person I know. I'm very lucky.
