It was such a privilege to spend Monday morning at the Snowdrop Project with some lovely women.

We had a giggle over making flower crowns & smelling a wide range of edibles. All grown in Sheffield.

I always learn something from the people I work with.. did you know you can infuse Rosemary in olive oil (for a month in the dark) and then rub it into your hair your to
promote growth & ‘help’ grey hair. I’m definitely going to try this…🌱

A little project today with the lovely folk who join me at the ‘Garden Club’. A fabulous team effort transforming this tired raised bed into a colourful sensory wildlife friendly haven. Plenty of digging, potting on, dividing, dead heading & collaborative advice on where to plant everything.
We can’t wait to see how it develops! Roll on sunshine. 🌸 🐝 🪴

Celebration day! World Therapeutic Horticulture Day…

I love working in all green settings to help improve people’s well being, including my own.

My work as a Social & Therapeutic Horticultural practitioner is so varied from week to week. My clients range from a hospice, a care home, to private elderly clients in their own homes, clients with dementia to working alongside clients who are super busy & struggle to find the mojo to garden by themselves oh and a little bit of garden design & planting on & running a few workshops. All green.

Every week is different & I’m continuously learning. I love the people I work with & hand on heart everyone I work with in a green space is better for having spent time outdoors or interacting with nature.

I meet some awe inspiring people in my role all so generous with their time & knowledge. Thank you each & everyone of you.

I’m spending my day today celebrating my love for wildlife gardening, in my own little corner of green heaven & sowing some seeds.

How are you celebrating?

We just love working with British grown tulips- so fresh, so colourful & grown less than 100 miles away.

A fun day of workshops with some lovely people. Laughter, concentration & learning new skills.

We loved doing these Japanese inspired hanging moss balls today - known as kokedama at St Luke's - Sheffield's Hospice.

It was a relaxing morning that used a range of skills & even got one of our group practicing her hand excercises on her weak right hand- who knew squeezing water from moss could be used as a physio excercise!

Ps. Photos don’t do them justice. I just take a super quick uninstrusive photo at the end of our session.

Instead of using poppies to remember our loved ones, we made little displays in jam jars & dedicated them to someone special & made a ‘forever’ wreath.

It was a lovely opportunity for the group to learn some new sustainable floristry skills - chicken wire base and mini willow wreath frames.

A safe space session to chat, remember & think of others. therapy

Pumpkin 🎃 vases, dried flowers, hand picked hydrangeas from the beautiful gardens St Luke's - Sheffield's Hospice

We had fun in our therapeutic floristry session today - what a lovely group of talented people, taking a well earned break for a couple of hours. 🌸🎃🌿🍂🍁

Nothing was wasted, everything used is compostable & all the pumpkin seeds were put to good use. 🍁

Fact for the Day (told to me during a session with one of my dementia clients)…. that the man who invented VELCRO got the idea from the spiky ‘Teasel’ - Dipsacus sylvestris - whilst walking in the Jura Mountains, Switzerland 🇨🇭 in the 1940’s. Look it up. Nature teaches us so much.

Thank you Mary (name changed) for sharing your love & passion of flowers & plants with the group today & for being so informative.

What a lovely surprise to receive these stunning Belladonna lillies grown by from a friend, as a gift today.

They galvanised me to do my own horticultural therapy & spend time cutting foliage in my garden. I was very excited to use my newly planted Eucalyptus Gunnii, Honesty & Ferns & Dorset grown P***y Willow.

And then I arranged theses beauties using the holder from a vintage rose vase to help hold the beautiful blooms in place. The scent is stunning.

(Photos don’t do justice to the blooms).
