We’ve just about recovered from the weekend and we’ve a message to share from JD’s family:
Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters,
On behalf of my family and myself, I want to extend my deepest and most heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who supported us during the loss of our beloved father, Oliver Darby — known to many as JD Walker.
Your kindness, generosity, and compassion have meant more to us than words can truly express. The depth of your support has helped ease the burden of funeral arrangements, and from this to the beautiful tributes, messages, and memories shared in his honor — every gesture has reminded us of just how deeply loved and respected he was.
Thank you for showing up for him and for us — not out of obligation, but out of genuine love, respect, and kindness. The music, the words, the stories, the presence — they all helped to celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. You honored his spirit in ways that were truly fitting for the man he was: wise, kind, passionate, and full of life.
My dad had a saying: “When I’m gone, you'll be glad I came.” And while I know we are all glad he came, I truly believe that he is glad too — glad that he lived, glad for the people who were part of his journey, and glad for the love and respect you all showed him, even in his passing.
I believe, with all my heart, that my Dad would be proud — proud of the love you’ve shown, proud of the community he was a part, and grateful for the support you gave to his family in our time of grief.
Thank you for helping us carry his memory forward with grace and gratitude.
