Two upcoming gigs: Thomas House (Sweet Williams) / Pefkin on 12th Dec.
Rare chance to see Thomas as a solo performer.

"There’s always been something positively off-kilter about Sweet Williams. House’s songs, filled with hairpin turns that move to places where you don’t expect. And in all this folk-inspired slowcore reversed engineered majesty, it’s down to a unique brain chemistry in how these songs shake out."

Meersbrook based Pefkin unveils new songs of beautifully drone explorations. Cinematic, yet laser focussed themes of loss, sadness joy and hope. Life affirming stuff.

Thomas House / Pefkin TICKET ALERT!
Sheffield Bishops' House
Fri 12th Dec, 2025 - 19:00hrs

I had the pleasure of witnessing the unfurling of a new set of music from Pefkin at the Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle last Thursday. Suffice to say it was a beautifully intense evening.

"I have to be honest, I’ve never laid myself down in a peat bog pool and allowed all my body heat to slowly drain. Smiling at the sky. Feeling death’s tendrils entwine around me. Recalling past summers and the sweet smell of the meadows as I danced through wildflowers. Slowly starting to decay as metal sheets of rain scythed down the glens and crags and valleys and rivers. Haunted by the voices of loved ones now gone. All life within and without. Returning to the earth. Accepting the embrace.
If I had, it would probably sound exactly like Pefkin."
S/A Malley / Horseloom

See for yourself, supporting
Sweet Williams/Thomas House solo which in it'self is a rarefied Happening.
"The music is slow, delicate and repetitive. The words are scrambled like eggs oughta be. Season on the plate, not in the pan."

Intriguing and bewitching,
Don't Blink

"Thanks to NARC for this description of Pefkin's legion of incarnations....
She is playing at Bishops' House on Dec 12th supporting the wonderfully intense Thomas House".

"If you’ve had the tremendous good fortune to catch Burd Ellen live, you’ll have seen Pefkin (aka Gayle Brogan): intensely focused on a table full of arcane acoustic instruments, percussion and electronics, summoning spirits from e-Bows and autoharps and bells., Pefkin has a couple of decades worth of small label releases, a score or so of intriguing, immersive, mystifying ‘slowly-unfolding, ritualistic hymnals’. Brogan emerged from Electroscope (part of that ‘bedroom psychedelia’ sound shared with people like Pram and Broadcast) to make music that is far more experimental, earning comparisons to the likes of Coil, Popol Vuh and Nico* (two of the best possible references, surely?). Live and on record, her music is evocative, innovative and genuinely wonderful. (Tickets are still available from We Got Tickets and you really should come.") NARC Magazine Nov 2025.
Take a break from the seasonal madness... This will be beautiful, meditative and spellbinding............

The first half of the programme begins in the 12th century and using a variety of instruments such as lute, gittern and vihuela takes us to the music of Vivaldi. After a short interval we move from early classical up to pieces from the late 20th century.
From enlightened mystic Hildegard von Bingen to 20th century Greek folk hero Mikis Theodorakis, our aim is to uncover some historical hidden gems of music and re-work some famous pieces by the great composers such as Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart.

Sweet Williams / Pefkin at Bishops House Dec 12th

I admit that "Sweet Williams" were not on my radar at all until,Gayle continually referred to them as this amazing band, intense and uncompromising with Thomas House at the core
The truth is TH is "Sweet Williams" more than ably abetted by a cast of brilliant musicians as needed.

I first encountered Tom at the "Rite of Spring" festival in Bishops' Castle a while back. Playing solo I was blown away by the urgency and depth of that performance. There was nowhere to hide. Amazing!
Recently we caught the "band" as they tore apart JT Soar in Nottingham and I knew exactly what Gayle meant.

Now relocated from Zaragoza, It's a pleasure to welcome Thomas playing solo in our little space. Be Prepared.

Pefkin, of these parts, will be bringing her mesmerising otherly sounds and incantations. With a new LP on Morc Records dropping in the new year, here is a chance to catch her at her best, experimenting and pushing at the boundaries again
Its a great way to end our year at Bishops'. I
Come and see, be mesmerised but yeah, Be Prepared.

A very busy weekend with music at Bishops House.
Emily Portman Sold Out on Friday, Thank you.
We have Tickets for Fjall
A quartet formed with a view to making improvisations and instant compositions which avoid the highly active language of free improvisation and tends more towards ritual or even contemporary classical music. The result is atmospheric and occasionally unsettling, as the music ripples between spacious, metallic and otherworldly soundscapes to earthy, rhythmic and strident, yet melodic tones. The use of unusual/ethnic instruments married with two percussionists gives a distinctive flavour of the unexpected.

“An inland journey for the head and for the heart.” – Mr Olivetti, FREQ
Perfect for the setting.

We also have very few tickets for Sunday which sees Sulk Rooms with support from James Adrian Brown
"An evening of deep dark drone textures and electronica"
Again another twist on the diverse programme we try to curate.
