Ahhhh. June - I do love you.. middle of the year, usually sunny, my birthday and my favourite flowers appear in gardens; the Rose. I love em - the more scented the better. I am a serial rose sniffer.. if I see a good bush hanging over a pavement I will stop and put nose to petal (and have taught my daughter to do the same) - glorious. Looking forward to hearing your nature writing at this month’s A Room of One’s Own… link in the bio - there are still tickets for next Tuesday’s Women’s Literature Club 📖 ✍️ ✨ we’ll be joined by the amazing and .writersworkshop

A beautifully written piece about Helen’s relationship with the mountains, climbing, running and how that intertwines with her experience as a mother. Just Gorgeous. 💕✨ 📖

✨✨KINTSUGI✨✨✨After learning about this Japanese art.. I thought that’s how I feel about motherhood sometimes. I think of my Mum and grandma and friends around me who have described themselves as feeling broken by various different stages of motherhood. But when I look at them, I just see them getting more and more beautiful by the experience of this.. here’s the definition in case you weren’t familiar with the concept:
✨✨✨ Kintsugi, meaning “golden repair” or “joining with gold,” is a Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery by mending the cracks with gold lacquer, often making the repaired object more beautiful than before. It embraces the idea that the history and imperfections of an object add to its value and aesthetic appeal.
✨✨✨hope you enjoy it!!

Last summer festival I listened to a talk with the amazing talking about her new book Matrescence. Please please please read this book - it’s so blooming intimate and fascinating. All about the changes in the brain which occur during our time looking after a small baby/child and then when they are teenagers. Scientists have found that this process of Matrescence can also occur in men; Patrescence (if they are a direct care giver) and also other care givers (non-biological mothers and nursery staff, etc).. how cool is that? So when you feel different after becoming a parent.. it’s not your imagination after all (or just exhaustion!) ✨✨✨✨✨
