Taking the worry out of everything (well, as much as you can when wedding planning), the venue’s coordinators look after everything from the venue styling and table settings to the food, cocktails, and more. The Mowbray’s Kitchen prepares a feast for guests, as well as wedding cakes, which can be dressed with flowers from the site’s in-house florist.

as we celebrated her latest book Flower Philosophy through feasting, cocktails and chat.

The Feast

From the heart and mind of The Mowbray's Head Chef - Emma Tophill Reed. A hyper seasonal menu which was inspired by the chapter titles and musings from Anna's book.

A personal and thoughtful menu - the Friselle Wreath was something that Emma and Matt enjoyed on their honeymoon in Puglia - and one stacked with, not only delicious ingredients - but vital, nourishing and sustainable ones too...

From pickled magnolia leaves, Hogget, amaranth to sea purslane and an insanely good home cured chalk stream trout - it was a wonderful menu packed full of thought, reason, knowledge, seasonality and beauty.

The Chat

We enjoyed a wonderful chat with Anna - from beginnings to global adventures - and the deep rooted theme of wellness and wellbeing that runs through the book. We also chatted about the deep learning that the seasons remind us of - if we choose to listen.

We invited the room to ask Anna questions and thoroughly enjoyed the discussion topics of place, sustainability and gardens that sprang up.

The Demo

Anna created in front of our eyes the most beautiful Spring creation - with plenty of tips on preparation, shape making and the type of blooms she likes to work with. A glorious arrangement that Anna gifted to one of our guests. Book signing followed.

Dr Lindsey Thomas is an experienced GP and a British Menopause Society specialist and trainer. She works in the NHS, as well as privately at Myla Health.
She is passionate about helping women to not just live but thrive in midlife. Which means taking a holistic, individualised view to care, as well as educating.

Kendall Turner is from Bloom, Sheffield - Bloom is a community flower garden for women in Heeley. They promote positive mental health through therapeutic horticulture. Started in 2019 with a very overgrown allotment and some big ideas. They now welcome women each week into their gardens to make friends, learn new skills and enjoy nature together as a community.

Rebecca will be giving us a bitesize movement workshop is designed to easily translate to your day to day life and includes some great tips for you to report back to your place of work!
Rebecca specialises in pain care, sports, yin, functional and sustainable yoga - and works with corporate clients at their workplace or in a studio setting.

A really special feasting menu inspired by the words, notions and arrangements of best-selling author Anna Potter of Swallows & Damsons 🧡

On Thursday 27th of April we are celebrating the launch of Anna’s new book - Flower Philosophy in her hometown of Sheffield.

The chapter titles from the book of ‘Spring Musings’, ‘Bloom & Fade’, ‘Ancient Wisdom’, ‘Moorland Cloud’, ‘Beltane’s Blessing’ and ‘Solstice Gathering’ together with Anna’s beautiful writing have allowed Head Chef of The Mowbray Kitchen - Emma Tophill Reed - to take a creative journey through the pick of the best of late April ingredients.

The aim is to give you chance to ‘taste the pages’ in a beautiful foodie journey inspired by the unexpected and uniquely wild feel to floristry and seasonality that Anna is acclaimed for…

After Supper - we’ll be in conversation with Anna who will be giving a fascinating insight into the creative journey of Swallows & Damsons as modern day influencers in a new wave of floral art and design. From opening in 2008 as a little flower shop in the heart of the community, whilst contributing to international blogs and publications such as Design Sponge, Food 52 and Domino Magazine. They have also designed for clients including Gucci, Architectural Digest, Harpers Bazaar, The Telegraph and Town & Country Magazine.

Anna will also be demonstrating one of the arrangements from Flower Philosophy - which she’ll be gifting to one of our guests at the end of the evening. During the demonstration there will be the chance to ask Anna questions about her creations.

Interior Architecture

A restoration project that has spanned 3 years, The Mowbray is a culmination of hard work, endeavour and spirit to transform two derelict buildings into one that champions our Sheffield heritage through bricks and mortar, feeling and soul.

The entire restoration has been masterminded by our award winning agency 93 who sit in a state of the art studio in the rafters above The Mowbray. From here we have created bespoke furniture and lighting designs especially for The Mowbray including chandeliers, wall lights, the bar, tables et al. These designs have been made in our Kelham Island workshops - a few steps away from The Mowbray. Antiques and key pieces have been sourced for their beauty and story - as well as bringing a feeling of deluxe choice and originality. We've been collecting pieces for this very purpose for years and each piece has been restored in our workshops.

We’re proud to be based in Neepsend - rich in Industry and honest trade - it’s the sort of place where you can stumble upon real heritage and ‘old ways’ of an industrial area and see new beginnings of a new generation start to appear and flourish.

We’re really relishing exploring and living in our area. We’re right across the rooftops and over the river as the crow flies to our first love - The Chimney House - nestled on the waterways of Kelham Island. But The Mowbray is truly a Neepsendian. We’ve become fascinated by Neepsend - even through we’ve been working on the building for years - there are still wonders to behold - the rush of a secret cargo train, unexpected pathways and the ability to plunge into wildlife and foliage via the weirs waterway network at any given time. We love it round here - as you really feel connected to the City on a physical level yet detached enough in spirit to feel wild and spontaneous.

Neepsend has a historical pleasure that we’ve latched onto with gusto. Intriguing tales and stories that span back to when time began fill us with delight - especially a Nordic connection and the architecture of landscapes that have risen and fallen through the ages. Discoveries and artefacts found in the locale give us inspiration and make us eager to preserve and document.
