3 days to go until we celebrate our 8th birthday, it’s around this time that we whip out our scrapbook of memories from over the years and get all sentimental.

Call this a soppy one or just a proud dad moment, but never did we think back in 2017 sticking party inflatables to the roof in that we’d be selling out one of the clubs that inspired us as a young DJ and party-goer with the king of Dubstep, a Dub Reggae pioneer, one of our favourite DJs atm on for our joint 8th birthday with one of our best mates in the promoter game

We’re not kidding when we say me and (Dub Shack) used to joke about how mental it would be if we booked together back in our Yellow Arch Studios era.

It’s no cliché saying it’s been rollercoaster coaster ride watching your favourite venues close (and reopen then close again), starting afresh at the next one which have made us cherish our last few events even more whilst we’re still around.

From Amadou & Mariam & Dele Sosimi on the live scene to DJ-hero, Midland, Mr. Scruff and Shanti Celeste in the club, it’s been the maddest 8 years holding things down across Hope Works, Yellow Arch Studios, Wire, The Harley, Factory Floor and more that have taken us to Madrid, Barcelona, and the French Alps.

Swipe for the full history of artists that we’ve hosted + venues and crews we’ve worked with with a select few highlights since 2017.

Believe us when we say Saturday at Hope Works could possibly top them all. We’ll be there with bells from start to finish with our original residents warming things up in Room 2, see you soon ❤️

5 days to go until we celebrate our 8th birthday, and it’s around this time of year that we whip out our scrapbook of memories from over the years 🎂

Call this a soppy one or just a proud dad moment, but never did we think back in 2017 sticking party inflatables to the roof in that we’d be selling out one of the clubs that inspired us as a young DJ and reckless party-goer with the king of Dubstep, a Dub Reggae pioneer, one of our favourite club DJs and one of our best mates in the promoter game celebrating their 8th birthday with us all on one of the world’s best sound systems

It’s not a cliché to say things have been mental in the industry over the years, watching your favourite venues close (and sometimes reopen then close again) and starting afresh in new spaces which have made us cherish our last few events even more whilst we’re still around.

From Amadou & Mariam & Dele Sosimi on the live scene to DJ-hero, Midland, Mr. Scruff and Shanti Celeste in the club, it’s been the maddest 8 years holding things down across Hope Works, Yellow Arch Studios, Wire, The Harley, Factory Floor and more that have taken us to Madrid, Buenos Aires, and Barcelona ✈️

Swipe for the full history of artists that we’ve hosted over the years + venues and crews we’ve worked with with a select few highlights.

Believe us when we say Saturday at Hope Works could possibly top them all. We’ll be there with bells from start to finish with our original residents opening things up. See you soon ❤️

Announcing our full lineup for La Rumba x Dub Shack’s 8th Birthday!

We’re still pinching ourselves at how this has come together for our joint 8th birthday parties at Sheffield’s underground institution for Hope Works’ closing party with some legends in the game, both old and new.

Deep Medi founder, Mala, UK dub reggae pioneer, Iration Steppas, London’s Club Yeke queen Tash LC all under one roof powered by one of the UK’s best sound systems born in Sheffield, Sinai Sound System, and Sheffield’s hottest newest rig in town, Comity Sound System.

On support in the main room is Dub Shack’s founding resident going toe-to-toe with Sinai before two of their biggest inspirations between them: Mala and Iration Steppas, all hosted by MC Sherlock Art on Sinai Sound System 🔊

In our second room, we’re flying in La Rumba’s original resident, Marcelo, to go b2b with Román to bring Brazil & Venezuela’s Latino carnival energy before Tash LC shows Comity Sound System what it’s made of ☄️

For our last ever show at Hope Works to complete the bill, we’ve invited someone we feel has been one of the Sheffield scene’s most important figures in recent years, Dan G, to join us with Tash.

It will go without saying you don’t see lineups like this often in Sheffield and we’ve scraped together every penny we have to pull this off. Nobody is more gassed for this than us. 💨

Hope Works, where the heck do we begin.

After some time out over the Christmas break we’ve only just processed the news on the venue’s announcement they will be closing in February. Like many others before us, Hope Works has had a huge influence on our lives as promoters, DJs, and dancers over the years.

As a South Yorkshire local, seeing global stars like Nina Kraviz and Bicep play in our little pocket of the North of England outside of Manchester was a serious inspiration for us to believe what was possible for Sheffield which bred a mentality we carried forward with every show we hosted at the venue, each time trying to push boundaries as an independent promoter in an ever-changing events landscape post-Covid, and ongoing cost-of-living crisis with alternative lineups to those hosted at the venue in recent years.

Highlights for us which we’ll never forget have to be ’s closing set after Craig Richards & Nicholas Lutz’ 4 hour masterclass; seeing & Josey Rebelle countless times over the years; and live show and at our own parties.

With all its flaws and imperfections, Hope Works has been Sheffield’s staple underground venue that many of us thought and blindly hoped would stand the test of time. We had no idea we would be hosting one of the closing parties which makes our joint 8th birthday with all the more special yet bitter-sweet on Saturday 8th February with Mala, Tash LC, and Sheffield’s Sinai Sound System.

It’s hard to think about what’s next for us, for Sheffield and the wider industry with venues like HW and Wire closing nearly every week.

But for now, we’ll share some of our highlights from over the years before our next announcements coming shortly.

This Friday we welcome back Portuguese selector, Mafalda, back to Sheffield for her fourth time at La Rumba, starting at Peddler Warehouse with from 18:00 and ending at Factory Floor until the early hours for our last party of the year 🪩

Mafalda is one of those DJs whose sets are wide-ranging, spanning anything from soul, gospel and jazz to house, R&B and Brazilian rarities – but they’re always uplifting and forever joyful.

Over the past 10 years, she’s become a celebrated selector, performing on underground festival circuits everywhere from Dekmantel and Primavera, to sharing stages upon request from Madlib, Four Tet, Floating Points, and now in our little pocket up North in Sheffield.

Swipe for some memories of our own, recalled from our previous parties with Mafalda, Nubiyan Twist, Dan Shake, and Pearson Sound.

To dust some icing on the cake, we’ve planned this one to be FREE ENTRY for our last party of 2024 to round off the year with some sunshine from Mafalda, but we’d recommend heading to Factory Floor early to guarantee a spot!

Pre-party at Peddler Warehouse with We Hate The Sharkman on from 18:00

13/11/2024

This Friday we welcome the one and only Robert Owens to Factory Floor in Sheffield.

In his own words, Robert Owens has been making house music ‘before house had a name’.

One of the most distinctive, coveted and prolific voices in the genre, Robert has an illustrious career that started in late 80’s Chicago and has produced some of the greatest tracks house music has witnessed. Responsible for era-defining classics such as ‘Tears’ alongside Frankie Knuckles & Satoshi Tomiie, ‘Bring Down The Walls’ with Larry Heard as part of Fingers Inc., as well as solo releases ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’ and ‘Mine To Give’ which hit number one on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play chart, Robert has created seminal records which you can comfortably bet will have a place on any house head’s all-time favourites list.

After setting the standard during house’s formative years, Robert has remained at the forefront of the genre, releasing on labels such as Dekmantel, Ninja Tune, Boysnoize, Circo Loco and HE. SHE. THEY,  building an extensive discography of solo projects, as well as a catalogue of collaborations which reads like an electronic music hall of fame - Masters At Work, Jamie Jones, Soul Clap, Coldcut, Marshall Jefferson, Catz ’N Dogz, Ron Trent - the list goes on.

What has set Robert apart throughout all these releases, is the raw emotion and passion he delivers into each and every vocal take, providing an uninhibited human touch to everything he works on. Lyrically too, we see an artist who is unashamed in his commitment to spreading the positive values of house music as a medium for self-expression, inclusivity and spiritual liberation.

Robert’s unique live performances continue to deliver this message, spellbinding audiences across the world with distinctive DJ sets embellished by his live vocals - a format which pays testament both to his talent as a singer, and his extensive depth of musical knowledge and selections.

You can catch the man in action with La Rumba founder Román kicking things off from 20:00.

30/10/2024

This Saturday sees one of our favourite guests join us for the 5th (??) time in Sheffield, SNO, heading over the pennines for an evening-into-night extended session.

We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know over the years, hosting her everywhere in Sheffield from Yellow Arch Studios with Mr. Scruff and Awesome Tapes From Africa back in 2020 to Plot 22, Sidney & Matilda, Hope Works (and some very silly extended afterparties) alongside Lukas Wigflex, Maurice Fulton, Channel One, O’Flynn and DISCHI, which has allowed her to flex in all sorts of directions on dance floors of all sizes.

This time’s different, as we’re very excited to be bringing SNO over for a headline set of her own with us on warmup duties starting in Peddler Warehouse from 19:00 -23:00 and ending in Factory Floor from 23:00 - 02:00 to take us on a journey through Africa’s rich musical landscape, R&B, Hip Hop, Latin, and whatever else we fancy.

The NTS Radio resident can travel musically from Cape to Cairo almost pedantically but certainly enthusiastically with an energy just as strong behind the decks as it is on the dancefloor. Her electrifying sets had us hooked since we first saw her play, and has garnered appreciation from African Music giants such as Tony Allen, Kanda Bongo Man, Femi Kuti, Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, Les Amazones D’Afrique, Dele Sosimi and Amadou and Mariam.

Swipe for a couple of highlights at our own parties and over at over the years

Don’t forget that both our shows are free entry but we recommend heading down to Factory Floor early to avoid the queues as it’s Peddler’s monthly event!

22/10/2024

We head back to Burton Road on Saturday 2nd November for an all night session with SNO starting at Peddler Warehouse and ending at Factory Floor, did we mention it’s free entry?

Since we kicked off Factory Floor’s regular live shows in June 2023, the venue has seriously taken off recently to bring legends like Maurice Fulton and Chris Duckenfield down for their ‘Factory Resets’ events alongside their ‘Live from the Floor’ series which we’ve been buzzing to be programming, bringing Mim Suleiman, Franz Von, Yarni and more to this little gem of a venue in Kelham.

Peddler Warehouse has undergone a mega makeover too, redesigning their floor plan to place live music front and centre in their foodhall which opens on the first weekend of every month.

With this in mind, we’re very excited to kick-off a run of shows at both Peddler Warehouse and Factory Floor where we’ll be inviting various selectors to dig into their record bag for an evening session at Peddler followed by a ‘closing party’ style setup at Factory Floor. Watch this space in 2025.

Saturday 2nd November sees one of our favourite DJs and no stranger to La Rumba head down to bring an assortment of hidden gems and lost classics spanning the African continent, US Hip-Hop and deep house.

Pre-party at Peddler Warehouse: 19:00 - 23:00 (free entry)

After-party at Factory Floor: 23:00 - 02:00 - also free entry but head down early to avoid queues at the door!

Introducing our first guest on Friday 1st November!

PHONETICS X LA RUMBA PRESENT Cengiz, Wheelup (Live), Bald Ethos and more at Sidney & Matilda

Cengiz is a London based DJ, record collector and producer, originally from Istanbul, who has been releasing music under CoOp Presents and Dance Regular labels, with recent releases being tipped by heavyweights like Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Lefto Early Bird and IG Culture.

Growing up in the lively metropolis of Istanbul, Cengiz found himself immersed in a vibrant tapestry of musical styles. The city's diverse cultural influences, blending elements of both eastern and western music, provided a fertile ground for his musical exploration. Amongst this captivating sonic mosaic, it was jazz that resonated deeply within him, leaving an indelible mark on the trajectory of his artistic journey.

After relocating to London, fuelled by an unwavering passion for music, Cengiz embarked on a dedicated quest to curate a diverse collection of records, delving into genres that spanned the realms of house, jazz, broken beat, and soul. This extensive musical palette inspires him to develop a unique and mesmerizing sound that reverberates on the dance floor.

Cengiz joins Wheelup’s full live bald, Bald Ethos, Chris Welch and Phonetics x La Rumba residents at Sidney & Matilda in 2 weeks time!
