It has been a fantastic rollercoaster of a time and I have loved (almost) every minute of running my celebration cake business, from way back in the dark days of 2011.

Thanks so much to everyone for your support of Cakes by Beth and then Torte Cakes over the years. I've met some amazing people, made great friends, worked in unbelievable venues and been in some absolutely ridiculous situations. Here's to another exciting chapter, this time with my partner in crime on board, where hopefully I can say the same again 😘.

🎈YAY SHOP SIGN! 🎈

It’s Peter’s birthday today! 🎉🎁 To celebrate, we’ve got more construction work and utilities stuff going on at home and the shop than we ever thought possible in the space of a few weeks (gas, electrical, bricking things up, knocking things down, air con, painting, the works) and then we find this beaut of a shop sign has been fitted! It’s only been 18 months of deliberating but we finally have an identity.

What a day! What a birthday!

Thank you , we love it and really appreciate your work, especially at this incredibly, incredibly difficult time for you.

We are still closed this week as we are taking a few days to catch up on some things. So far, no lie ins at all as everything has required an extra early start 🤣 Maybe this weekend? 🤞🤣

We’ve also got a couple of really awesome and exciting projects in the pipeline, which we can’t wait to tell you about. Love a secret project and a frustratingly vague social media post. Ok a couple of clues then. One is based on our most popular thing and making it even more exciting. The other is related to what you’d put on some of our things and making that even more exciting too. Any guesses? 🤣

We are off for more secret shenanigans and not so secret noisy building work. Have a goodun, see you soon!

Free local doorstep drop delivery across a good number of Sheffield postcodes, £2 city centre delivery and via Royal Mail for the rest of the UK. We are always mixing things up and keeping it fun with new flavour launches on a regular basis. Lockdown just got a bit more delicious 😋

UPDATE: It’s tough times right now and we appreciate that this doesn’t really fit with fancy party cakes. For everyone who will still be celebrating milestone birthdays, we will be there for you for as long as we can. We are all set up to honour the orders that we already have in place. If you’re postponing your event, we completely understand, just let us know your new date when you know, however long that takes.

In the meantime, we are still working away as our other brand Yay Flapjacks. They’re squishy and gluten-free and we have lots of vegan flavours too. They can currently be posted as Royal Mail are working damned hard to ensure everything gets through 👊 We also deliver locally and can doorstep drop if you’re self-isolating. Meet Kobe and Lucas and their favourite toys.I have made cakes for this family before and it was lovely to work with them again. I had a lot of fun making these two pugs and was quite sorry to see them leave. Happy birthday Emma, I hope you had a fantastic weekend celebrating!

Apparently it’s National Toast Day! So to celebrate, here’s a drippy cake in the colours of Reese’s Pieces, decorated with peanut butter cups and a slice of buttered toast. Apparently the birthday boy goes round to his parents every morning before work and eats about half a dozen slices! 🤣🍞🧈 Happy birthday Blake! xx

Less than three weeks to go until the Indie Beer Feast on 6th and 7th March at The Abbeydale Picture House. We are so excited to be there as our alter ego brand Yay Flapjacks! Craft beers, gin, street food, what’s not to love? We will be bringing all our usual classic and vegan gluten-free flapjacks plus some new flavours we are working on 😁 We will also have some vegan mini cakes and our super yummy cookie sandwiches. It's our final market of the festive season on Sunday. Come on down to Sharrow Vale Market for all your gluten-free treat needs. Our cookie sandwiches went down a storm at Nether Edge Farmers' Market last Sunday so we will be bringing more again, including this special edition Mince Pie one. Dark chocolate ganache and deliciously squidgy vegetarian mincemeat filling, topped with festive icing and cranberries 😋🎄

A pretty huge cake to celebrate two big milestone birthdays, and the lady who came in to order this may well be one of my favourite clients of all time. What an amazing lady!

I'm only a year late in sharing this gorgeous couple on their wedding day last summer. I created a rose gold and ivory cake with a hint of marble and a cascade of Indian henna designs down the front. Huge congratulations Mary and Suraj! xx

Last night was pretty fun! I had the opportunity to be on BBC Radio Sheffield's Monday Night Social, guest hosted by Howard from GBBO and with some really interesting local people. There was specialist tea, live singing and some amazing stories.

We ate gluten free flapjacks, vegan GF flapjacks and sampled some of my new range of gourmet cookie sandwiches. I talked about my work, the science of cakes, the upcoming online launch of Yay Flapjacks and why on earth I brought this crazy tromboncino into the studio!
