"Today after W’s funeral at the crem, I had to come over to you just to say what a beautiful person you are. I wanted to say more to you but then emotions got the better of me.

I’d heard about β€˜The Angel’. I didn’t know who or what β€˜The Angel’ was. As soon as you approached R, like others were doing too, I knew it was you. I think I even saw your wingsπŸ’•.

You were made for this job. What a beautiful service it was. It takes a really special person to do what you do. Even how you encouraged young G who did remarkably well too.

Our country and its stiff upper lip really bugs me. People feel all other emotions, they laugh, they get sad, they get angry but oh no, don’t cry, pull yourself together, but why? The heartache and pain is grief and that in turn is love and how lucky we are to have felt that love and so to cry is ok.

As I listened to the service today, I thought of how different my sisters funeral service could have been if they’d had somebody like you. Take care."

Life can be extremely challenging - in so many ways. Animals bring such a sense of calm, of joy, and of wonderful chaos in the turmoil. I can't imagine being without my zoo.

Lean on your four-legged friends. They love unconditionally - and give back so much when you're falling apart. πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

A moment of peace in (potentially) the last of this year's sunshine after a rather unique occasion. A joint ceremony for a husband and wife who were married for 77 years, and passed away just a week apart. Love really is the most powerful force on this planet. πŸ’™

When it comes to saying goodbye to someone you love, no one should have to settle. There are hundreds of Celebrants out there - but only a few really good ones.

I've been in two minds whether to post this ... but a week down the line it still makes me angry / sad ... so I need to get it off my chest, I think.

Last week I attended a (distant) family funeral. It was way out of my own circulation area, so I didn't know - or know of - any of the team.

The man whose life we were celebrating was an enormous character - and it was entirely lost on the mourners due to the appalling presentation of the Celebrant who officiated. He seemed a nice enough bloke, but was an absolutely dreadful Celebrant - he had no nuance, no empathy, no presentation skills, no connection with the family. No redeeming features at ALL, in fact. It was so upsetting to sit there through what was a travesty of a ceremony, especially knowing that the immediate family would all ask me what I thought at the end.

They did. And I waited until I knew which direction they were leaning before, gently, confirming that he wasn't good. In fact, he was so bad, I came away furious that we hadn't been able to celebrate our family member the way we should have been able. I'm still pretty furious a week down the line..

It makes me sad that some people have to put up with less than extraordinary and simply don't know that it doesn't have to be that way.
